  • Spearfish South Dakota is a town with about 12,000 people on the northern edge of the Black Hills.
    It's 45 minutes from Rapid City, 18 to Sturgis, and 20 to Deadwood.
    You could also live in Belle Fourche or Whitewood which are under 10 minutes away.
    The home of Black Hills State University, Spearfish has everything you need to live - grocery, hardware stores, department stores, restaurants and coffee shops (it is a college town, after all!)
    With it's beautiful setting on the edge of the Hills, you would be minutes from many Black Hills activities. Is it the right town for you?

    I ❀ SD especially Spearfish. My dad was stationed at Ellsworth AFB a few years ago and as an air force brat I had the pleasure of being able to explore spearfish and the neighboring communities! ❀
    I’d love to be able to live there again one day ❀ 🏡

    Thank you for doing this drive around. It's really informative and helpful. Also, seeing how the weather and roads are in Jan helps a lot! Winter is definitely the scariest turn-off for moving there. To see some of it helps.

    Conservative communities are always nicer places to live. None of these towns in and around the Black Hills area ever look neglected or run down. Everything’s well managed and kept up. The tourism industry keeps things thriving.

    One nice thing about the Black Hills is it’s distance east of the major mountain ranges. It’s an isolated forested area and the land management is good. Unlike Montana where wild fires run rampant because of poor or no land management.

    Thanks for the video, it was very helpful. Spearfish is near the top of my list for retirement destinations. I must say I was a little surprised at how high the real estate prices are though. I guess it’s the view people are paying for. How is Spearfish for new comers to the area? No, I don’t want to change anything about your city, or tell you “how we did things back home.” If it was so great where I live now I wouldn’t be moving. I just want a beautiful place to live with hopefully some friendly folks to enjoy the time I’ve got left. I really enjoy hiking, off roading, car racing, and shooting guns. I’m hoping there might be some good gun clubs in the area? I plan to take a trip there this spring to look around. Any other towns in the Black Hills that I should consider? How is Belle Fourche? Looks to be much smaller than Spearfish, but a little less expensive. Thanks!

    • @TristanEmond
      @TristanEmond  Pƙed rokem +2

      Spearfish is the epitome of supply and demand 101 - lots of demand (it's a really pretty area) with little supply means high prices. There have been many new comers the past couple of years. Many people are used to it, some are still having issues with it. I've heard from other clients that as long as you let it be known really quick you wouldn't change a thing, the suspicion goes away. If you watch the videos of clients moving to the area, they all say the same thing...people are friendly. Belle is a nice little town - I'll have a video up of that later. You'll have no problems finding some gun clubs :). I always recommend a visit to get a feel for things! Other places would be Whitewoood, Sturgis, the Piedmont area, even down to Hermosa. Every town has it's own feel and character, so that's why the visit is important. When you do, hit me up and we'll meet up for coffee or something!!

    Hello. Enjoying your videos. My mother (91) and I (68) and an older dog are planning to move to the SD area from Hot Springs to Spearfish. Rapid City is looking good.
    Just doing my research and wondering which town you would recommend for seniors to rent. Both on SS.
    I prefer to stay where there is the least amount of snow and a hospital and shopping close by. We are fine with a mobile home park if there are any. Townhome, condo. As long as a German Shepherd is OK
    Any advice? Are there local classified ads instead of just Zillow and Craigslist?

    • @TristanEmond
      @TristanEmond  Pƙed 11 měsĂci +3

      Hey thanks for your comment! So Hot Springs statistically gets the least amount of snow - but anything outside of the Hills isn't bad. The main hospital (monument) is in Rapid City, but they have satellite hospitals in throughout the Hills. Most places will have your basic groceries, hardware, etc.
      Renting with a pet can be difficult. Not every place allows for pets. I don't handle rentals directly, but I have a page with links to get you started:
      www.rapidhomesonline.com/rapid-city-rentals
      There are a couple classified ads links in there that should help. Also check out FB marketplace.
      Best advice is to call around, ask questions, be persistent. Good luck!

    One questionI never asked anyone out there is why more pine trees aren’t planted on the opposite side of I 90 to the hills? Noticed very few pine trees growing in Spearfish.

    • @TristanEmond
      @TristanEmond  Pƙed rokem +1

      It's a mix of many things - the stable economy of the area, trade radius, and proximity to the Black Hills. Spearfish is a beautiful mountain town so that's attracted many people. And since the Hills are on the south edge, there's limited room for expansion. So it becomes a demand/supply thing. I've helped a few people buy homes in Whitewood and Belle Fourche that were more reasonable - and easy 10 minute drive to Spearfish.
