This is a great track, the lead singer and drummer on this was, Des Dyer, he formed the band with Clive Scott, the bassist was Barrie Bernard. This was the theme for a Kung Fu crossover film, in the vein of 'Enter the Dragon' part Australian part Asian, it was called 'The Man From Hong Kong' 1975 starring Jimmy Wang Yu, Sammo Hung and George Lazenby. Jimmy Wang Yu was well known for his films, 'The One-Armed Boxer', 'The One-Armed Swordsman' and 'The Chinese Boxer', 'The Man from Hong Kong' was supposed to be the film which would launch his career in the West but in 1976 he was involved with the 'Bamboo Union' a Taiwanese triad, in a restaurant in Taipei four members of the rival 'Four Seas' triad were killed, more trouble followed in 1979 and in 1981 which put an end to his career internationally.

Jigsaw used to play at our local pub in the 70's, they used to finish their act with a version of Arthur Brown's, Fire.... which involved the Sax player doing a fire breathing stunt, he nearly set me on fire one night when the fuel he would throw on the ground came a bit to close, happy days.

A big hit in the US and top ten UK.
If memory serves it was featured as the theme song of a low budget martial arts movie called The Man from Hong Kong featuring a former James Bond actor George Lazenby

One of my all time favorites. I bought my copy in Italy on vacation and it went to some ku-fu movie I think because the 45 cover was in Chinese. Super Awesome song✝️💜‼️ ok I just looked it up and The Song Skyhigh went to a movie called "The Man From Hong Kong" (also known as The Dragon Flies), and is a martial arts espionage film. 😁💜Absolutely Love this song.

I'm so glad you finally got to this song. It's one of my top 30 favorites along with Beach Baby, Hot Child in the City, Hey There Lonely Girl, Billy Don't Be A Hero, Run Joey Run, Which Way You Going Billy, Shannon, My Ding-A-Ling, Sugar Sugar, Tracy, Lay A Little Lovin On Me, My Baby Loves Love, Little Willy, and Heartbeat It's A Love Beat. I could go on but I'd be here all night. Love the channel. Love the reactions. Especially when you do 70's bubble gum.

There’s a full orchestra throughout. The strings and horns are amazing. There’s def some mid-‘70s disco in the strings.

Glad you are getting to this one. I had the 45 of this as a 9 year old in 1975. Great one hit wonder of the 70s. If the drummer is singing, you know it's going to be good. Btw, Pop was a pop music program in West Germany from 1974-79. The name changed every year to reflect the current year, hence, this is Pop '75.

A fantastic song from 1975. As popular as it was, they were basically a one-hit wonder. The arrangement and production is stellar. The greatest drummer/singer though was Karen Carpenter. She was voted drummer of the year in 1975 by Rolling Stone magazine.

great band, loved 'If I Have To Go Away' too, the drummer was Dave Beech and the bass player was Barrie Bernard also the late Clive Scott was on keyboards. Bernard was a member of the band Pinkerton's Assorted Colours who had a Top 10 hit with Mirror, Mirror in early 1966, would recommend you give it a listen, thanks.

  • @Neofolis

Where singing and drumming is concerned, it's not drumming while singing that is difficult, it's singing while drumming that is the issue. For most drummers the drumming part is second nature, so the fact that you are singing doesn't really affect you, but singing while you are drumming has various problems. Firstly, you are sat down, which removes a huge amount of breathe support. This is not too much of an issue if you are singing well within yourself and not holding any really long notes, but is restrictive either way. Secondly, the movement caused by the drumming and the impact of the sticks on the drums has to be controlled enough to not affect the voice. Imagine trying to hold a steady note while jogging, any large impact or jolt to the body will be heard in the note.
All that aside, I don't think I've heard this song for 40+ years, so it took me back a bit.
