    I thought they'd sound very similar but the last one sounds amazing! So smooth and colourful

    A hundred percent honesty, I really did not believe that there was going to be a huge difference as far as sound quality just based on the material and cut of the head joint but I was absolutely wrong and that last one sounds so incredible

      Very cool you could hear the difference!

    you know Bev...i don't want you to try to walk on water...but you are the best ! I mean..i listen to a lot of flute players on the net and NO ONE match the quality of your playing. You are the best ! Pierre

    Nice to see how the tone changes even though it's the same flute. I've also been thinking about finding a slightly better head joint, but in my case the whole flute cost 10 times less than one of these head joints :)

    Can you check out Goosman headjoints? I haven't seen anyone else on CZcams do that yet.

    ive been trying to find an alto flute to rent and im finding that alot of people sell just an alto flute headjoint, can you put an alto heajoint and a normal c flute?

    • @thoregulden4545
      @thoregulden4545 Před 5 lety

      Those headjoints are for alto flutes like normal headjoints for the flute. You can upgrade your alto flute if you want.

    So I have a question .So let’s say I have a Yamaha flute and I want a different head joint like a Powell head joint. Would that workout?

    • @michael-flute
      @michael-flute Před 4 lety

      John Sample what kind of Yamaha flute? It could work. I had a Powell 9k Aurumite on my old Yamaha for a while and it was a nice setup till I upgraded to an entire new flute

    • @johnsample4480
      @johnsample4480 Před 4 lety

      I was thinking of getting the intermediate model 461.But I’m still indecisive.And then getting a different head joint to go with the flute.

    • @michael-flute
      @michael-flute Před 4 lety

      John Sample what’s your budget? I would recommend the Yamaha 500 series over the intermediate models. The 300-400 series are pretty much the same as the student models, just with more silver. For what you’d pay to get a 400 series yamaha, you could look into a pre owned entry level handmade flute (Japanese brands)

    • @johnsample4480
      @johnsample4480 Před 4 lety

      michaelnguyenflute my current budget is 5,000 because I’m still currently in high school.

    • @michael-flute
      @michael-flute Před 4 lety

      John Sample you can do a lot with $5k! I recommend looking at Muramatsu EX, Miyazawa 202, Altus 907, and Sankyo 201 to start. Those will all be handmade and better than a 400 series Yamaha.

    I always love your videos and I LOVE Powell (I play on a Powell Signature) but please do another video where you explore headjoint cuts. I know that’s something I had to really look into when I was trying out flutes.

    The sound of Powell headjoints is so recognizable. They don't suit me though.

    • @DoctorFlute

      Each headjoint is different for every flutist. The key is to try a number of them to find the one that works with your flute and your embouchure.

      Same here, I tried them when I was looking for my flute. I had high expextations but it just didn’t work for me. I ended up with a Brannen flute and a Nagahara head joint. Which is great of course 😋
