      @vitormancini1729 Před 5 lety +1

      @@gareso I like it, it shows how much effort you put in the work throughout the timelapse, and explaining the reason behing it all it's really nice. But frame by frame animation is not rocket science, from 8 minutes on you were revealing tools and techniques that I haven't ever imagined. Today I was improving an old project by trying to add depth using blending options on a flat spaceship, and wrapping my head around it was so difficult, I'll go back to it with those tips and I'll get a better result for sure.

      What keeps me from migrating or even properly trying procreate for animation is the lack of a proper timeline. But being able to use procreate's features for cleaning up and colouring is very appealing to me. Maybe doing the rough pass in rough animatior and the clean up and color in procreate could be a nice workflow :)

    • @gareso
      @gareso  Před 4 lety +1

      Hi ReneV! I understand what you are going through :) Well, I decided for the 11 inches mostly for portability, and I'm very happy with it. But I only use it for animation and illustration. If you are considering other uses, maybe go for the 12.9. It's a very personal choice. Have you got the chance to hold them both on your hands?

    • @ItsRVV
      @ItsRVV Před 4 lety +1

      Gareso Thanks for the quick response, yeah I have hold them both and I think it is a personal thing. I asked a lot of people and everybody says something else. It is just so much money. I mainly want to use it for drawing, animation and netflix etc. Most of the people I know that use it for drawing bought the 12.9z

    • @gareso
      @gareso  Před 4 lety +1

      @@ItsRVV Yeah, it's kind of logical to think that more space for drawing is always better... and I guess it is, in a way. But I considered price (I even got the smaller storage size, as I don't use it for anything else, and I can always move files to a computer if needed), portability and comfort. So yeah, mixing everything in a blender made me decide for the 11 inches. And I don't regret it. But don't hold me accountable for your decision :P

  • @alans056
    @alans056 Před 5 lety +1

    Hi , thanks a lot for this tutorial ! Do you think it's possible to trace over a video if we're not skilled in drawing ?

    • @gareso
      @gareso  Před 5 lety +3

      You can do that, but that's called rotoscoping and will give you a different result. I believe drawing is a skill we can learn, it's not some talent you are born with. The only thing is that some people become interested or are encouraged to draw as kids and by the time they grow up they are already way ahead of the majority of people. If drawing and animating is something that moves you, don't let the current lack of this skill stop you :) tracing over a video would be a great exercise if you are paying attention to the shapes and lines. I love illustration but I struggle a lot, but I'm trying to study the foundations (anatomy, perspective, colours, and so on) and practice to get better. Just try to be patient and enjoy the ride :)

    Thank you for this tutorial, Gareso!
    Can you do all this animation in only Rough Animator on iPad or Procreate (without using Animate and AE)? If yes what is reason to use AE?

    • @gareso
      @gareso  Před 4 lety +1

      Hi Jegor, well, I guess It can be done (anything can be done :P), but it would be way harder to create the interface using cell animation alone. The good thing about using Ae is that it helps a lot in many different things. If you are talking about the hand only, then it's definitely doable without too much extra efffort using Rough Animator or Procreate.

      Visual library maybe?

    • @gareso
      @gareso  Před 5 lety +2

      Hi Ellie! Well, my ideas can come from anywhere, but it is definitely one of the hardest parts. First I try to define a theme (you can look for online contests to help you with this, or you can come up with your own), then I spend some time thinking about it, in bed, in the shower, while walking... basically any free time I get. Sometimes, like in this hand animation, I just think about what skill I want to practice, or what technique/style I want to try, and start from there. I try to visualize it roughly in my head and think about how I would do it technically. I think it's important to get the habit of feeding your brain daily with anything art related for reference (illustration, animation, design, paintings, etc). There is no formula and I struggle with that as well 😬. In the end, it's a matter of sharpening your own self sense of what's good and what's not. But remember to not be too hard on yourself. Don't waste too much time looking for an idea. Even if it's not the best idea ever, you will always learn heaps when you are practicing and producing something. Be patient :) practice always brings improvement.

    • @gareso
      @gareso  Před 5 lety +1

      Tracing a reference video is called rotoscoping and you can definitely do it inside after effects. But for frame by frame animation I don't know any good solutions to work inside after effects. You can try other techniques, like animating shape layers or cut-out animation if it fits your animation.

    Why does it feel like everyone else is ditching Adobe animate for after effects?

    • @gareso
      @gareso  Před 3 lety

      Animate and Ae are different beasts. In my point of view, animate is mostly used for frame by frame animation whereas after effects, although being capable of some kind of frame by frame animation, is more suitable for rigged characters and simpler/quicker animation, which is more widespread. Not everyone is willing to travel the frame by frame route, so Ae will always be more popular anyway, compared to animate or other frame by frame applications. But I kinda feel frame by frame is more popular than ever now :)
