It's always dangerous to play Isner because you are at the mercy of his service games. That said, because big John does not serve and volley it helps an opponent who has the skilled set to just block back those monstrous serves. FED is one a very few who can do it. On the age thing, I concur with many to say at almost 40 this is mind-boggling. All and All, I believe it is a combination of a lot of gifts he is blessed with. The one gift that stands out to me of course is his style of play. In some ways, it's from a bygone era. He glides across the court can hit any shot in the book off both sides. He doesn't have the biggest serve but he spots it so well and many times you can't read where it is going.

Even at this age, Federer is levels ahead of Isner in every area apart from serve. Plenty of weaknesses in the Americans game; slow, poor net coverage, no backhand, no feel, all combined with him not playing well, meant a recipe for disaster.

Agree with all comments. Fed is just a one of a kind and I’m glad he chose to play tennis. My only negative comment about the Laver Cup is Isner playing such an important match. He is not an elite player. His only weapon is his serve. He can’t break an opponent’s serve and therefore almost every set goes to a tiebreaker.
Federer playing Isner is a mismatch. Scores will always be close (because Isner will win most of his service games) but Rodger will win 99 out of 100 matches.

@@pommystal9043 Because Isner and players like him, specially AS TALL AS HIM, are successful relying primarly in their serves, thus making the games, at least the one's they serve in, pretty short and thus, the match flows fast and choppy, most of the time leading to a tie-break. And that's perfectly valid, but is a bit boring for the viewer.

Ça me paraît douteux... Seule la Coupe Davis, dans sa précédente version, a une valeur sur le plan de compétition entre nations, mais on nous l'a confisquée pour des raisons financières... pour le moment... 🎾❤💪

I mean whatever really. This is genuinely one of the tournaments I prefer to watch most during the year. Maybe Europe is the favorite to win every time, but team World has been close (and is) several times already. There's just something about seeing the big names compete with (and against) each other that just instantly puts a smile on my face, not everything is for financial reasons. Look at Kyrgios. No worth for the sport? I swear this is the time of year he competes the hardest, trying to give his team the win. Look at Federer's celebration or Sock's. They are all trying their hardest. So you might think this is just a promotion stunt or whatever but in truth they do care and want to win for their team.
