I started watching Bergman 8 years ago and I knew after the first few films that these are all different parts of a greater narrative that he is weaving as he himself is evolving into a wiser and somewhat more cynical man. This is a great essay on what I would like to call "the greatest of them all" filmmaker.
Understanding and analyzing Bergman is a daunting task, but this is such a great detailed study!
I have been on a Bergman ride lately! Watched "Cries and Whispers" yesterday. I also get Shakespearean-ish vibes from his work. This is excellent!
Watched Summer with Monika today. This essay is a nice entry point to knowing about his work, surely. Thanks!
Haven't watched a lot of Bergman films, but from what I have watched, this essay sums it perfectly!
Great video essay
now i need to watch bergman's filmography with this new perspective.
I think Bergman could be arguably the greatest film maker in history. On the other hand to state this is probably as absurd as saying any one film of his is his greatest. The more great films a viewer sees, I believe the more difficult it is to choose "greatest", and the more ludicrous making such choices becomes.
This is cool 💯
10:58 Am I wrong or is this the scene from Enemy by Villeneuve?
Cause I didn’t remember any real image of the spider in bergman’s movie.
A+
The narrators voice is simply unbearable . It couldn't be more inappropriate.
Most modern filmmakers aren't anywhere even close to Ingmar Bergman's brilliance or intelligence as a filmmaker, Bergman was a true genius!
