All I can say is I was an effeminate boy who was very unhappy with the changes my body went through in puberty. I've ended up a reasonably confident gay man in my 40s, comfortable with the fact that some of us are just naturally gender non-conforming. I am so grateful that the idea of 'being in the wrong body' was not really around when I was young. Massive kudos to LGBA and Dr Hakeem for reminding me that I'm not the only one.

Definitely not the only one. I was also an effeminate boy and played with dolls and wanted to wear dresses, but eventually I grew out of it and am now VERY, VERY happy with being male and masculine. I would have gotten so fucked up from today's gender climate.

@@CodyWalsh87 thanks Cody. I'm still not very masculine 😂. However, I don't find it empowering or progressive to adopt a new orthodox identity - the whole non binary thing, which once upon a time I thought sounded great (and also a welcome rejoinder to the hierarchy of 'straight acting' on the gay scene), now just seems to reify gender stereotypes. Rather than making it easier for those of us who just are a bit more androgynous, it's too contrived.

This isn’t said enough - even people with no ‘gender confusion’ have difficulty coming to terms with their new bodily reality during puberty. Children should receive appropriate support so that the chance they reach adulthood with a healthy mind and body is maximised.

@@80PercentScottish I've had mental health problems for... most of my adult life. Depression mostly. I've come to consider, call it a hypothesis if you will, that ties into what Lisette said in her OP. I think, most mental health problems (including gender dysphoria, and even depression) all stem from what she said about a 'privileged bored population'. Essentially: life is too easy. I'm 32. Go back 60 years or so to when my parents were kids. Life was NOT easy. They were lucky if they had a bicycle let alone one car. Lucky to have a radio let alone a television. Could only afford very basic food. Look at my generation onward. Life is TOO easy. Food is plentiful. Multiple TV's in the house, even multiple cars in the family!
Our brains are complex things. The brain's ultimate fight is to fight for survival. Where's that survival these days? It's gone, it doesn't exist for a large part of the so-called 'Western World'. Exceptions apply of course like homelessness, but for a very large percentage life is too easy. And when life is too easy and the brain doesn't have to think about survival anymore, it gets uncomfortable. So when life is too easy, the brain essentially creates its own problems! I think that is a fundamental part of all modern mental health. It definitely rings through for my own, I can say that much.

Society has been emotionally blackmailed into believing that we must “affirm” one's chosen identity or else they will commit suicide. I don’t believe that a person with dysphoria will ever be happy because transitioning is a band aid that doesn’t solve their underlying problems. If someone’s happiness is dependent on not being misgendered, that person will always be looking for external signs that it is happening. We should be helping them with self-acceptance, not rushing to give hormones and surgery.

Why would a male want an additional orifice for another person to access during sex? It appears very odd that medical people are investing in this “treatment” for boys. These boys are going to be infertile, can already have the opportunity to participate in same-sex relationship as an adult. Why is it necessary for a surgeon to create a sexual space in a child?
Before gender ideology was this done for female children? Were female children who endured physical trauma from FGM or CSA given specialised clinics and resources for their bodies to be operated on?
Seems very peculiar that a great emphasis is on this newly-created orifice that is reported to be:

      @bawad6859 Před rokem +3

Yes I do think it matters making children infertile. My point was poorly made. Children are rendered infertile as part of the process of “transitioning”. So the health professionals are thinking about the sexual role of the child as an adult; deciding they will not be able to reproduce, even with donated sperm etc. So we have the health professionals displaying a disregard for their adult life as a sexual being BUT introducing another part of human anatomy to be used in a sexual act. They are either seeing the child as a non sexual adult, an adult that should be infertile, an person (child or adult??) that requires a new sexual cavity.
FWIW not all children who go to gender clinics are gay. It’s important to allow a child to grow into adulthood, with their bodies intact. We can’t just assume that gay children don’t need fertility.

No females under 25 should be given any kind of transition treatment, females are more likely to follow fads and seek attention (these are the girls that would’ve had eating disorders or self harmed back in the day) and in my opinion, bottom surgeries should be outlawed for either sex.

I'd like to see some hard numbers on all these detransitioners that this guy suggests are so common. I see a lot of claims about how they're "suffering in silence". While it's definitely true that some people eventually regret their choice to transition, if they were as prevalent as this guy claims, there would be more documented evidence of it by now. And regardless, the answer should not be to get rid of the services that allow people to pursue transition if they wish. That's simply taking away people's options, and restricting their right and ability to choose their own path.
This whole notion that y'all are pushing about gender-affirming care as an "ideology" seems to have little basis in reality. No one is trying to "turn" your kid trans. No one WANTS to be trans. The process of overcoming internalized shame and guilt, learning to accept and love yourself, dealing with the whole process of transitioning, including potentially being shunned by friends and family, denied job opportunities, dealing with online harassment and hateful messages from complete strangers, and facing the constant threat of violence and intimidation any time you walk out your door... That is incredibly hard to live through. Nobody signs themselves up for that experience if they're not fairly certain that it's necessary to their future wellbeing. And nobody who's gone THROUGH all of that would ever wish it on others, especially not children.
I am 100% certain that I am a trans woman. It took me 33 years to accept that about myself, but here I am. I don't want ANY child to have to go through the struggles I went through. However, what I DO want is for there to be resources and support freely and widely available for people of any age that happen to be dealing with those struggles. The rhetoric you people are pushing for is only going to lead to a lot MORE people suffering in silence, because they can't access the care they need. And sure, maybe some of them will sign themselves up for this conversion therapy you're advocating for, and they'll eventually develop a narrative that allows them to cope with the body they were born with. But for every one of them, there will be dozens of others that are forced to spend their whole lives in hiding, in denial and self loathing. That is the future you are advocating for.

I dunno what the laws are in the UK/other European countries, but in the United States, here's how it works:
      - Doctors won't prescribe blockers until the onset of puberty (and they're completely reversible).
      - Hormone therapy won't be administered before the age of 14 in the US (and most doctors don't sign off on it before 16 or 17, but it varies) and only with PARENTAL CONSENT.
      Aaaaand here's the kicker:
      - Contrary to the fearmongering and blatant dishonesty of certain groups, THERE IS ZERO EVIDENCE of children or teenage minors being given ANY KIND of permanent gender-affirming surgery (what you refer to as 'mutilation'). It doesn't happen. There have been zero instances of people under the age of 18 undergoing any kind of permanent gender-related surgery. Find me evidence to the contrary. I'll wait.
Conservatives in the US introducing laws to 'protect children from mutilation' are, as in most cases, a hammer in search of a nail. They are using gender-nonconforming children as a political pawn in their culture war, trying to take away their access to safe, reasonable and (up til recently) PERFECTLY LEGAL medical care. At the same time, they are cultivating fear and hatred of trans people among their supporters, telling vicious lies and creating unsafe living conditions for tens of thousands of trans people who've never done a damn thing to anyone but try to exist without harassment. The result of these campaigns will be that a lot of innocent people are going to get hurt (or killed, if it keeps up), gender-questioning children will become even more isolated, ostracized, and bullied, and will lose access to the few support systems and resources they currently have in place, and the rights of an entire demographic of law-abiding citizens will slowly be stripped from them, to the sound of roaring applause from the bigots across the country.
The rhetoric of the LGB Alliance is directly contributing to this process. I know that everyone who's been taken in by these lies is not ill-intentioned; I'm sure many of you really do care about the safety and wellbeing of children, but I would implore you to compare the facts to the rhetoric, and really find out how much truth there is, in the things they are saying. Then, ask yourself why they are so desperate to exclude and shun a whole group of people who need rights and protection from bigots JUST as badly as anyone else who flies a rainbow flag. You're being lied to, and it's going to lead to a great deal of harm being done to innocent people.

@@80PercentScottish what am I supposed to glean from that? Sounds like she made a choice and now she regrets it. That's perfectly valid, but her framing it as being "owned by the pharmaceutical industry" is 1. An abdication of personal responsibility for the choices she made, and 2. Intentionally (I imagine) phrased to give people the impression that big pharma has some sinister plot to castrate people.
No one gets bottom surgery without being fully informed of what it entails, and what it will mean for their life going forward. We call that "informed consent", and it's legally required for most medical procedures; doctors can be sued for malpractice if they do not give the patient sufficient information about the procedure's possible risks and side-effects and obtain their written permission to do the procedure.
Bottom line: No one is being forced (or misled) into medical transition. It's cost-prohibitive for most working class trans folks anyway, many have to save up money for years to get the surgeries they want. During that time, they have plenty of time to read up on the details and self-reflect about whether or not it's something they truly want. At any point during that process, they are welcome to change their mind about getting the operation. I honestly have no plans for undergoing SRS at this time, myself. Plenty of trans girls never do.
The fact that a small percentage of those who CHOOSE to get SRS eventually end up regretting it, is in NO WAY justification for taking away peoples' ability to make that choice for themselves. And no, minors cannot give consent for an operation like that, nor can they legally have it done.
The idea that the best way to keep people from regretting their personal choices is to take away their ability to choose is inherently authoritarian, and has no place in a modern, democratic society.
