  • U.S. Marines with Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron (VMM) 365 conducted carrier qualifications aboard HMS Prince of Wales, preparing for the following NATO missions, which will most likely be located around the Black Sea. VMM-365 is a subordinate unit of the 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing, the aviation combat element of II Marine Expeditionary Force.
14 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing pilots qualified to operate from the deck of HMS Prince of Wales - one element of a critical theme of the Portsmouth-based warship’s autumn deployment to the Naval Station Norfolk: interaction and cooperation between the US and UK.

When I was in the British Army I occasionally worked with US Service personnel. They were always good natured, funny and friendly but at the same time professional and dedicated. I’m proud that the UK has such good friends and allies, especially now when our enemies are trying to undermine our democracies. God bless all those who stand ready to protect us from the evil in this world. 🇺🇸🇬🇧

The UK F-35s are operated by both RAF and FAA squadrons. None are attached to a specific ship and join as required from wherever required when a carrier sails. They leave when the carrier returns to home port.
A brief search would have shown you plenty of aircraft on both decks over many months. In fact just last month PoW had 8 on board for a NATO exercise. Yes 8 was all that were required for that exercise.
We currently have 35 x F-35s: 3 are based in California with 17 T & E Squadron and the rest are operated by 809 NAS, 617 RAF and 217 RAF Squadrons.

@@vickers2007 Regardless of accuracy of numbers my point was well made against the nonsense in your OP. Plus you need to check your delivery dates first then Wing Commnander.
Let me quote from Lockheed Martin as of March 25th (earlier reported by the MoD on March 20th):
"Acceptance of the final two RAF TR-2 F-35 aircraft occurred in November. The jets were then delivered to the RAF at 17 Test and Evaluation Squadron, Edwards Air Force Base, in support of a military exercise prior to their final ferry to RAF Marham. Both jets arrived at RAF Marham last week"
The LM numbers were BK34 and BK35. Less the one that crashed gives 34 operational aircraft. My bad for one.
The 4th F-35 to Edwards was a temporary addition for that specific exercise with the last two delivery airframes and returned to the UK with those two. To consider the 3 in California as somehow 'non-operational does not stand scrutiny.
Technically my number was one low because BK36 (ZM170) and BK37 (ZM171), the first TR-3 aircraft, are actually flying from Fort Worth now in RAF hands but not yet handed over to RAF Marham.
So can we agree on 36 operational F-35s?

Very brave of US Personnel to land on HMS Prince of Wales!
Are they not aware of its useless service history to date.
They really should disembark before it breaks down again.

Thanks for your support. Glad not to have you in mind when I was in a war on behalf of the Crown.

Britain should do without contact with America after our armed forces were called shit by that American commander.

Embarrassing we don't have enough aircraft to fill 2 small Carriers, what a joke

It's not ideal, to be sure. The RAF is in charge of aircraft procurement and aircrew training.
HM Government is right to pursue a maritime defence strategy.

We have ordered and paid for atleast 72 F35s BUT the US have not delivered them all yet, the issue is the US not the UK ! At this time, we only have enough to just about operate one carrier !

@@ynwa3476 "We have ordered and paid for atleast 72 F35s"(sic)
Incorrect. The UK has ordered 48 and received 37. No order for anything past 48 has been placed. The MoD keeps hemming and hawing about a second order but have yet to sign on the dotted line.
"the issue is the US not the UK ! "(sic)
Incorrect again. As the CEO of Lockheed Martin UK - Paul Livingston - announced last December, the UK is refusing to exercise its options and accept delivery of current production lot F-35Bs due to lack of money. It is also doing the same with the E-7 and A400.

@@ynwa3476Plus the spiralling cost of the F-35 which was supposed to be a cheap stealth fighter for NATO means we had to halve our order just like everyone else did.
