Yess we need more videos like this! We need to stop the toxic idea that being a pet-tuber requires you to have a wide array of animals and constantly expand your collection:)
Personally, I would never own rats or mice, I just think they are too short lived and I know I would be too upset about every passing, but I love seeing how passionate you are about your animals and that is exciting and makes me watch:)

Adopt a mix if you can and are capable of handling dogs. Had a pug once, never agen. AKC talks about betering the breed, but thats just code for narrowing the gene pool. A foundation needs to be made for breeding healthy animals, tossing out the consept of breeds all together.
Unfortunatly if you want to cross dogs and allow for more diversity and ACTUALY breed for better health, you get harassed becuse breeding is, "only for the preservation and betterment of the breed" AKA: speeding the hurttle of the dog species to extinction. Thats right, extinction. Pure breeds only started 100-200 years ago, and look at the health issues caused. Yeah, they avoid breeding german sheppards with hip dysplasia, but they keep breeding for short back legs and curved spines, and wonder why that dehibilitating hip issue keeps cropping up.
I wanted to become a dog breeder, but after finding out that if i actualy cared about the well being of the domestic dog, i would be attacked and harrassed on all sides, i gave up that dream. Just look at the breeder of the blue bay german shepard, trying to take them to their healthyer roots. (Yes, german shepards desended from wolfdogs, but 5gens after the pure wolf, they are no longer considured a wolfdog. )

I had a man say "ooooh my cat Georgie would looove to play with that. He'd kill it in one swipe!" while staring at my rat in a vet's office waiting room, AND in front of his young son, sitting next to him. In response, I looked down at his cat sitting in its carrier and said: "oooooh and I know my Rottweiler would love to play with that! She'd break sweet Georgie's little neck in one swift shake! CRACK!!!!!!!". Btw, I don't own a rottie, never have and never will. And would never wish harm on a cat or any animal obviously. But just felt like this guy needed a taste of his own medecine. Which seems to work: His face dropped and he went "WTF???" Then in disgust, he just looked away, visibly upset, and left me the fuck alone for the rest of my vets appointment. I guess somehow, to him joking about feeding my pet rat to his cat was fine and funny, but me talking about doing the same to his cat with a big dog was rude, not funny and insensitive. Ah well.

Pugs and bulldogs and all the breeds that have short snouts make me really sad, when I had an internship at a vet clinic I learned that those breeds will happily sit around, fully awake with the intubation pipe down their throat... With most breeds you have to monitor the dog when they're coming out of anesthesia because if they wake up with the intubation pipe still in their throat they can bite the pipe in half and then the dog has to be put under anesthesia again so you can fish out the pipe from their lungs, pugs and French bulldogs won't bite the pipe because *they are so happy to be able to breathe for once in their life*
I can never forget how sad this French bulldog looked when we had to take the pipe out because we couldn't be there to monitor her, she was awake and conscious of what was happening around her but safety protocols and rules dictate that an animal can't be left like that with no one watching even if the dog wants to be intubated :(

We used to have free roam bunnies. They were literally allowed to go anywhere on our property. When they wanted to come inside or outside, they'd sit in front of our glass door until we noticed and opened the door for them. They also NEVER peed or pooped inside, but always waited to be let outside. (We had a litter box indoors at first, but got rid of it because they chose to never use it.)
However, I don't think I'd ever want more rabbits, or at least not more rescues, because the ones we had never became tame/cuddly enough for my taste. Some of them would occasionally approach and let me pet them, but most didn't want to be touched at all, and they all certainly didn't want to be picked up and cuddled. I'm not sure if this is a problem with all rabbits, or was just because they were rescues.

Yes, I can understand that one can love all animals but not want certain ones as pets. For instance, I could see myself with any type of pet rodent, including gerbils... but never Syrian hamsters. Don't ask me why, I just don't feel them. And what is so funny is that they were the first pets that I've wanted to own as a teenager, but it happened that they've run out of hamsters on the day we visited the store, so I came home with a tortoise. After that, even till today, I've never felt a thing for Syrians though I like them and go awww, but I never wanted to adopt one any time I saw someone re-homing them. But I like them. But I don't want to keep them. You make a good point in that never tell someone to own a pet just so that they can make a video for the audience. I'm glad you made this video.

One had a strong repulsive smell and was constantly urine marking everywhere (including on me), it was almost like he was incontinent (he also had lots of health issues, and died when he was only about a year old). He had a cute quirky personality and I liked him, but found his smell a bit hard to deal with. The other male mouse had a different smell, not nearly as strong and not repulsive ... it was never a problem for me, and I came to kind of like his smell over time, as I built positive associations with all aspects of him

Hello! I know this is an old video but I hope you read this! If you don't have any interest in birds because they are loud, I definitely suggest looking into pigeons! I own a house pigeon myself and he is one of the most lovely birds I've ever owned. He is very cuddly and loves to play, and most of all, he is practically dead silent. The only sounds you'll hear a pigeon making is a couple coos. They are a very underrated pet and I wish more people had them! Pigeons have an awful reputation and there are many pigeon rescues with pigeons up for adoption. They are definitely an easier bird compared to a parrot, but they are still trainable and very playful, and each one has their own personality. My boy, Nutmeg, is very excitable and loves to dance around and fly and play, while my boyfriend's pigeon is a very stoic and quiet girl that prefers to just sit quietly with you and get petted. They are amazing pets, and definitely deserve to be more prevalent in the pet world.

Egg eating snakes are a wonderful option if you can find a good source of smaller quail eggs. Or garter snakes who can have a range of foods like fish and worms.
I love rats and all small furries. I once came home from a dog show with a hamster who had been dumped in a box in the road. I just cannot physically handle their upkeep anymore or their short life spans. I will never not feel bad about feeding rodents but at least I know they've had a good life which is worth every penny extra than the milled frozen.
