Small Intestine Overview:
- Small Intestine goes from the Pylorus to the Caecum
- Approx 7 meters long in adults
- Parts of the small intestine: Duodenum, Jejunum, Ileum
Duodenum:
- 20-30cm
- Responsible for Iron Absorbtion, Chemical Digestion, Chemical Neutralization
- Processes Chyme from the stomach
Topography of the Duodenum:
- Skeletopy: From L1 to L3
- Syntopy:
â Behind Duodenum: Inferior Vena Cava, Aorta, Right Kidney
â Above Duodenum: Liver, Pancreas
â Anteriorly: Transverse Colon
- Holotopy: Epigastric Region and Umbilical Region
Jejunum and Ileum:
- No strict demarcation between jejunum and ileum
- Jejunum (2-3 meters long)
â Primary Function: Absorbtion
- Ileum (2-4 meters long)
â Absorbs remaining nutrients and vitamins (vitamin b12)
Topography of the Jejunum and Ileum:
- Skeletopy: L2 to Right Iliac Fossa
- Syntopy:
â Surrounded by Caecum, Ascending colon, transverse colon, descending colon and sigmoid colon
â Posteriorly: Fixated to posterior abdominal wall through the root of the mesentery (Radix Mesenterii)
â Anteriorly: Greater Omentum
- Holotopy:
â Ileum: Umbilical and left lateral region
â Jejunum: Left Lateral Region, Right Inguinal Region, Pubic Region
Anatomical Structures:
- Duodenum:
â Superior Part
§ from Pyloric Orifice (Ostium Pyloricum)
§ To Superior Duodenal Flexure (Flexura Duodeni Superior)
â Descending Part
§ From Superior Duodenal Flexure (Flexura Duodeni Superior)
§ To Inferior Duodenal Flexure (Flexura Duodeni Inferior)
â Inferior Horizontal Part
§ From Inferior Duodenal Flexure (Flexura Duodeni Inferior)
â Ascending Part
§ Until Duodenojejunal Flexure (Flexura Duodenojejunalis) / Ligament of Treitz
- Jejunum:
â Wider, Thicker than Ileum
â More vascular
â Darker in colour
- Ileum:
â Thinner
â Less Vascular
â Lighter in Colour
Layers of the Small Intestinal Wall:
- Tunica Mucosa
â Made up of Simple Columnar Epithelium
â Circular Folds (Plicae Circulare) absent in the duodenal bulb (bulbus duodeni)
â Intestinal Villi (Villi Intestinales)
â Microvilli
â Intestinal Glands (Glandula Intestinales)
â Solitary Lymphoid Nodules (Noduli Lymphoidei Solitarii)
â Aggregated lymph nodules (Noduli Lymphoidei Aggregati)
â AT the duodenum:
§ Major Duodenal Papilla (Papilla Duodeni Major)
§ Minor Duodenal Papilla (Papilla Duodeni Minor)
- Tela Submucosa
â Duodenum: Brunners Glands
â Jejunum: Longer Villi
â Ileum: More goblet cells in mucosa and has Peyers Patches (GALT)
- Tunica Muscularis
â Provides Peristaltic movement (peristalsis)
â Inner Layer: Circular Muscle Layer
§ Hepatopancreatic Sphincter (Sphincter of Oddi) (M. Sphincter Ampullae Hepatopancreatica)
â Outer Layer: Longitudinal Muscle Layer
- Tunica Serosa
â Intraperitoneal Organs (Peritoneum)
â Retroperitoneal Organs (Duodenum) has tunica adventitia at some parts

It will be much clearer if these are not posters and drawings, but the processing of a CT examination of a specific person. Moreover, such opportunities have already existed for a long time.
The picture of the tunica muscularis at 17:15 is a bit misleading - it shows the longitudinal muscle layer as being the inner one and not the circular :) The circles represent the longitudinal as they run along the lenght of the intestine. ps:Amazing video!
Wanderfull
thanks sir this is helpful
Hi, which 3D program do you use?
