Isnt this what happened to Kona coffee. Other parts of the state also needed to be protected not just Kona. You have Kau, Hamakua, and other Islands who grow coffee. So mac nuts should be correctly labeled.

The macademia country of origin is Australia. They are actually called Bauple nuts, discovered in what was an ancient Gondwana rainforest in a small town named Bauple just 250km north of brisbane Queensland.

Production cost became too high fertilizer, chemical and labor .
Is there any support for the growers not only mac nuts also flower , fruits.
A lot of individual growers and facilities have given up their business.
Country should have announced the facts to make us understand how serious it is.
    Or they don’t care?

I thought all food products had to be labeled with country of origin.

They do if they're prepacked in retail packaging.
But like the clear plastic containers of Mac nuts in Foodland that are "Makai Brand", those are just cheap Chinese nuts repackaged on the island and sold in a way that makes them LOOK local/hand made.
This bill would force them to label the country of origin of the nuts they repackage

I WANT to buy only Hawaiian macademia nuts! More discussion on common sense sounds like somebody benefits from a delay. What a load of nonsense! The LAST food I would choose to eat is anything grown in China! The water and soil are hopelessly polluted. Tap water is undrinkable. Food from that country is watered with the same water. Consumers have the right to know. Why does this require more discussion?

yes, when I worked at Mauna Loa 2016-2019, nuts came from all over the world, raw, unroasted. They varied widely in quality, and Hawaii crops were a mixed quality, some good, some quite lousy. Kenya and S. Africa we're far better than the Aussie nuts. Central and S. American crops varied.

In 2021 I bought some delicious macadamias in Mountain View at Dimple Cheek. Since I moved I have bought organic Mac nuts on Amazon. They sell them by the 1/2 pound for $16.99 and sometimes give people 15% off if they purchase $50. They’re good. If Island Naturals or somebody could match that I’d go with them. Help HI farmers get USDA certification that can’t afford it especially if they’d qualify anyway.

So what, keyboard warrior? Food has been introduced by new arrivals for thousands of years. Hawaiians are travelers, like so many other people. To say they originated in Hawai'i and it's still a kingdom ( though last ruled by a Queen) is ridiculous, though I think the coup was a terrible thing, it would have happened anyway, by somebody else.
China, maybe. What fun! The Chinese would have erased the Hawaiian culture completely. Go fish.
