    Mr. Joel, that made a lot more sense. I actually never heard the term floater frame. We recently purchased a new home and my wife is buying several pieces that need hanging so these tips from someone who does it on a regular basis is invaluable to me. Thank You for getting back to me.

    I have already watched many CZcams videos on making floating frames for a canvas painting. Most used your method of business cards or playing cards but you are the first to suggest parchment paper to prevent sticking to the paint on the canvas edge. Great tip. I will use it.

    Thank you for the tip of using business cards to fill the gap in order to center the artwork! Brilliant! This allows small adjustments in the spacing by slipping cards between the other cards and you are able to really snug it up. I flipped my art and frame as shown on other videos so the snug cards really helped! Love your art!

    I never realized floating frames were such a pain to install the canvas and get it centered.

    Thanks for this! Do you out put the brown paper on the back as well ?

  • @lakechild9669

    So with these floater frames, the only way to hold the artwork in to the frame is to literally put screws into the back of it? So if using gessobord or stretched canvas we have to put screws into the back of the art board or stretcher bars? That's the part that doesn't make sense to me. Most art boards are only 1/8- 1/4 inch thick and you'd risk ruining the art. What if we wanted to mount a ceramic tile or something that cannot be screwed on ? But they look nice. Thanks.

    Which store sells the wooden frame?

  • @saintmoz

    Was that on a cradled panel or an unsupported panel. I do my encaustic on 12” square pieces of plywood at the moment to keep costs lower, so this maybe a viable way for me to present my work.

      The paintings in the video are on 1/2 inch plywood. Yes it is a big cost savings to be able to buy 4"x8" sheets of plywood to cut down. Cheers.

    Can you suggest an alternative to the business cards whereas I have none? I appreciate this video. (liked, subscribed and saved!)

      How about construction paper? Or maybe regular paper folded 3 or 4 times would work. Something with a little stiffness and depth. Thanks for your feedback 😀

      @@mycupoftea12 playing cards would be better...cheap and easy to find. The stiffness of the playing cards works like the business cards.

    What is the benefit of using the Eucaboard as opposed to using scraps of corrugated cardboard or scraps of foam board?

    • @JoelAndersonArt
      @JoelAndersonArt Před 2 lety

      It's a harder surface. The cardboard and foam board can become unevenly compressed when you're tightening things up.

    What are some good ways to make sure the painting is flush or 1/4" recessed from the edge of the float frame? What do you personally use to fill that space if the frame is deeper than the stretcher?

    • @JoelAndersonArt
      @JoelAndersonArt Před 2 lety

      I custom make all my frames and panels, so I know the measurements I need for the flush or recessed mounts.
