    On an 2007 Tundra 4.7 there are 3 bolts to loosen the power steering pump, two upper and one lower. No need to remove any wires from the pump. Pull the PS pump forward, grab the alternator and turn it backwards to pull it out of the wheel well. Thanks for your help to get me started!

    Thank you for this video. It is very detailed. I followed your instructions and successfully replaced the alternator on my 2010 Tundra 5.7L. The only issue that I ran into was the welded nuts that hold the sway bar bolts inside the frame was broke loose when I used an impact driver to remove them. So I had to cut the holes on the side of the frame bigger to insert a 19mm socket inside to hold the nuts. For older Tundra, I recommend removing the bolts slowly with a breaker bar and some Liquid Wrench, not with an impact driver.

      H Con i bought my alternator from a local store. Make sure you get the right one for your truck, my was 150 amp. It took me about 4 hours. Just be careful and go slow with the sway bar bolts. I also recommend to replace the driving belt since you have everything open up. If it is not bad, then just spray it with belt dressing before you put it back in or your belt might squeal. Take pictures of your belt with all the pulleys before you remove it so know how to put it back. Good luck and have fun.

    Thanks for making this video! It really made the job easier for me. I did not have to remove the sway-bar. I was able to get the alternator our thru the wheel-well pretty easily. The trick was to push the power steering pump as far up and forward as it would go then orient the alternator with the pulley facing up and it came out without too much effort. Just a tip for the next guy.

    Wow! Great video with the socket sizes and torque specs. My 2010 had the tow package and had an extra bracket and cooling lines that had to be repositioned in the fender well window as well. I also had to take off the bottom radiator hose to make room because of those cooler lines.

    Thanks for this video! I just finished this job and this method of replacement was alot better than removal of the fan and draining the radiator fluid. However i didn't have a lift so i just turned my wheels all the way to the left which gave me enough space to get to that PS pump.

    This was a great video! Unfortunately, all four of my bolts for the front sway bar only turned a few times until the nuts and the bolts just spun and spun. I had to cut off all the bolts! Drill a hole in the side of the frame just big enough to fish in a new nut and a wrench to hold onto it while I tightened them. Other than that, you saved me big bucks Brian!

      @ChestyPullerFan Před 3 lety +1

      All vehicles are pretty much like that! Want a treat? Work on set generators where wiring & sharp edges abound as well as tight quarters! BTDT many times. Just like the gentleman in the video shows, you make room & convenience "adjustments" where you can.

  • @RickysHP
    @RickysHP Před 4 lety +3

    Whoever comes in after you is going to hate you for putting that red locktite on the sway bar bracket bolts. Those don't typically back out, and blue would have been MORE than enough. Red has to be heated to 550F or greater to get off, and if somebody doesn't know it's there, can potentially snap those bolts in the frame if they try to impact them out without knowing it's there. Otherwise, everything else was a great video.

    I had high hopes doing this job myself after watching this video. It made it look fairly straight forward and quick.
    However I did not have that experience AT ALL. Every single bolt or clip was absolutely awful to remove, with proper tools. The second bottom bolt on the alternator is almost impossible to reach with any tool and it took about 2 hours to get it out. About 45 min to get it back in. I highly recommend getting a mechanic to do the job. It isn't worth saving money over.
    EDIT: after rewatching the video there are definitely some differences that I've noticed on my truck which is a 2010.
    The transmission lines are completely in the way of the 2 lower bolts of the alternator. There is no way to disconnect them and I had to pull on them as hard as I could while ratcheting the bolts out and back in. A very tedious job.

    Left wheel on
    Serpentine Belt removal
    3 alternator bolts. 130 A have towing package
    Did not need to remove hoses or power steering pump. Power steering pump had 2 bolts and 1 nut on the front by the pully. Wasn’t necessary to remove.
    Pulled out from the bottom from where I removed the rubber mat.
    Discounting the sway bar wasn’t necessary

My questions is where do I find what my amperage is the alternator I have wthout removing it. I see 100,, 130 and 150Amp ffers. I do have a limited Edition which has the tow package but have not put wench on it yet or a bunch of lights. I do would like to put a wench on it in the future. I nearly 400K miles n this truck and I plan on keeping it since it has lasted this long and all I have replaced are starters and fan clutch. I think I have good one. Can you offer any suggestions
