I know you probably don't drive near Cork but could anyone do a video on the Wilton roundabout?
I've heard interesting things about that, I'll try next time I'm down in Ireland's third city.
your videos help me a lot ... thank you
Best wishes, my pleasure
I passed my test first time this week and these videos were a huge help! Thank you for all the effort that goes into them.
My pleasure, congratulations.
At which test center
I binge watched your videos during the month leading up to my test and it was all i ever did the night before! I passed my driving test for the first time yesterday and im over the moon! Keep up the good work, Dane!
Thank you for your support and well done on passing your test 👍
My biggest nerve is when exiting, if there is another car behind me on the left which I would pull out in front off if i move over.
Ash I understand what you mean and one piece of advice to deal with that is not to be too slow when you are on the roundabout. Driving too slowly could invite vehicles behind to get beside you, be sure to check the mirrors exiting and perhaps a quick shoulder check will help reassure you.
I passed My driving test in Cork this morning & I can honestly say your videos helped so much , they’re very informative and to the point! ☺️ Thanks a million !
That's great news, congratulations on a wonderful achievement and safe journeys 👍👍
I passed my test in 2nd attempt, thanks Dane 🙌🏻
Well done on your success 😁
I've had my license for a short while now & I knew pretty much all of this from my instructor, theory test, knowledge of the law/signage & common sense, but the way it was laid out was grand. I appreciate how you treat driving cars as it is: Piloting a vehicle which often weighs over a ton in varying & unpredictable scenarios.
Good stuff!
you Sir are an amazing teacher!!!!!! The best!
Thank you very much
I'm very glad I found this video! I'm going to watch it several times! Thank you, thank you, thank you!
Best wishes
Great SPOT technique, wonderful explanation! thanks.

I've been having some trouble with roundabouts and I've been finding these videos so helpful. Though it also helps that these are my local roundabouts, having videos that tell me clearly what to do with the more quirky ones is reassuring!
Glad to hear that you are finding them useful, it's certainly an added bonus when someone from Wexford views these videos 😊
Watching this for the second time as I continue practicing. Thank you so much for your videos, they are a great help!!
Knowledge is power, best wishes
Thanks so much for your help Dane. I passed my test earlier this week, and so I just wanted to say your videos were a great resource in the lead up to it. Any little doubts or questions I had were quickly put in their place when I'd watch your videos, and it helped me remain calm and measured for the test. Keep up the great work on your videos, and thanks again.
Great to hear, congratulations 😁
Thank you, I am coming from the USA and renting a car at Shannon. I was worried about the round- abouts; now I feel a little more confident.
Once you slow down and look to the right you'll be grand, email me at danetyghe@gmail.com if you have any questions or concerns
This is Marvellous! 😌 Thank You, Always Dane, Sir🙏💙.
🎺🥇👌
Get in lane with the Great Dane
I passed my test today. Thank you for your videos. It would be beneficial for applicants like me for a video with different roundabouts, like a roundabout with left lane only to go left and right lane to go straight and right. On my last test I exited into right lane on going straight, when I was supposed to take left lane on exiting. I think there will a lot out there like me who don’t know that. Thank you once again for all good videos.
That certainly would be a good idea for a video and that's why I made it -

Many great tips, thanks Dane! I passed my test today after a lot practicing and watching your chanel!
That's great news thank you so much and congratulations 👍🙂
Good review! It really helped me.Thank you!

I've my test in two weeks and this is even better advice than any of my instructors... There's a difference in of opinion on how to manage roundabouts. Thanks for this.

Thanks for the video Dane

I watched this video over and over again, quite addictive . Thank you I PASSED my test ...
Great news, congratulations 😊
Informative lectures even better than my instructor.. Thank you for all efforts you did.
My pleasure, take care 👍
You make it look so easy, thank you, Sir you are so helpful. 💪😎

Very well explained. Cleared all of my confusions tackling roundabouts.
Saif Saqib Thank you Saif, glad they helped you, stay safe and best wishes ☺️

Dane Tyghe It's confusing during exit if a car is following me and want to exit third roundabout can result in collision.
What speed Max should be on roundabout?
It is not obeyed by people the rule one person at a time be using round about?
Please throw some light here.
Thanks
Going to Ireland in a couple months, I'm still a little nervous about this even though i have been driving in the US everyday for the last 15 years. Your video really help me understand and be prepared.
Glad to help, best wishes 😁
Got all covered about roundabouts thanks for the video!
It's tough at the top but someone's got to be there.
Thanks for the many information that helped me pass and I'm still applying.
Best wishes
One of the best instructors l have ever watched thank you so much Dan l passed my test first time 😁still cant believe it
Glad to hear that! Well done on your success 😃
I'm a Canadian who has done 3 extensive driving trips through the UK. These videos are invaluable for those of us who have a more limited exposure to roundabouts. I watched a number of these before taking delivery of my hire car and was very happy that I did. ( I owned standard transmission cars for the last 50 years but always hire an automatic transmission car for UK driving and was glad that I did. )
One thing that I learned was to never enter a roundabout on the outside lane when there was a car approaching even if it was on the inside lane because you just know that the other car has to exit and you need to just stay out of the way.
One thing that could use some more explanation is that at 2:36 the driver exits the roundabout directly from the inside lane potentially cutting off any vehicle that may have been in the outside lane. I assume that is normal. I would have expected him to have changed lanes first ( even though the distance from entering to exiting was short ). Presumably if there was a vehicle to your left, you would have yielded the right of way ?
What I did at 2.36 is completely normal, I am basically changing lanes and exiting the roundabout at the same time, the left lane in this case is for turning left but I checked my mirrors to ensure that it was safe.
I hate roundabouts but feel more confident after watching this video, thank you!
Best of luck, practice makes perfect.
Hi Dane, i enjoy it was good and constructive and explicit am glad i have learnt some thing new which will boast my confidence hope to pass my test without sweat, thanks kindly.
Glad to help, best of luck with the driving test
Great video Dane, well done
Stephen O Brien thank you Stephen 👍
As I have not driven for over 20 plus years and having had a couple of
refresher driving lessons, I find this lesson very informative and useful. Thank you.
You'd probably be no worse than some of the drivers out there on roundabouts 😊
But thank you very much and best wishes with your driving, it's never too late to start or in your case make a return to the driving 👍
Same here. 45 years though! Hope you're doing well out there. Roads very busy now.
Hi Dane just to share i had my driving test yesterday in Waterford sadly I did not passed one of my the are Faults is in round about the Tester told me that I should not leave a wide space on the left if i am going to 2nd exit because the way I done it I really do the C share of the roundabout I used doing it because my driving instructor told me that i should do that when entering the round about going to 2nd exit.. Its my 1st try to do the driving test and I'am Grateful to the experience at least i now i can
able to correct the mistakes i had failed in my driving test..
Thank you for sharing your skills and experience to us as a learner driver as myself as a learner i would like to learn proper, safely
caring to others road user because end of the day I'am responsible to another human being and that person family in the road.. Thank You i will just keep watching your videos on driving until one day I succeed, May God bless and protect you always and the rest of your family...
Thank you very much and best of luck with the driving test next time 😊👍
Thanks for the video Dane. I like the mini at 4:39 that drives over the traffic button! The tips about blind roundabouts are great, and creeping out until the driver gets a line of sight is brilliant advice. It's always great seeing the many different roundabout configurations in other countries. Cheers Rick
Smart Drive Test Thank you very much for your feedback Rick, much appreciated.
You are most welcome Dane - keep up the great work there in Ireland. Cheers Rick
+Smart Drive Test Thank you very much, i just subscribed to your channel, some great videos, well done.
Hi Dane - you're soon going to be celebrating your 1000 subscribers - that's the hardest part of CZcams. After that, it's relatively easy. All the best, Cheers Rick
+Smart Drive Test Hopefully so ☺️ it's a slow hard process but I intend to stick at it. Have a great day Rick!
Very helpful, thank you! I’ll be sure to keep S.P.O.T in mind in future lessons!
Just passed on 2nd attempt. Thanks very much your videos were a great help
Great vids. Very helpful

Thank you very much, I do plan on making a video especially for American drivers in Ireland.
Enjoy your stay 😊
Happy Saint's Patrick's Day.
Hopefully you have a nice weekend.
Still watching your video. Tomorrow is my test at Wilton Cork. :)
Best of luck
Thanks for making these helpful videos Dane. I finally passed my driving test.
Well done, glad you like them 🤗
Thanks for helping us .
You're welcome
Dear Dane, I passed my Irish Driving test today in first attempt. I watched your videos and bought and studied the book GET IT. You are amazing and I learnt so much by watching your videos. Dr. Ali
Glad to hear that you found the videos useful, well done on your success.
Very very good video, appreciate!
Thanks very much for your support
As a learner driver this helped a lot thank you 🙏

Thanks! Had only 2 days to prepare for 2nd attempt and passed :) I failed the first time because of a roundabout mistake.. your videos definitely helped^^
That's great news, congratulations on your successful achievement.
You have made me a more relaxed driver. My test is in 3 weeks and I keep watching the videos. Soooo helpful and easy to understand. Keep up the good work. Still nervous for the reverse around the corner and the turn about.

@@DaneTygheletsdrive But some testers, considered it as driving fault, as coasting. Which is ridiculous really, even if you don't press the clutch down yet, coming down to the runabout. Just getting ur foot ready. If u know what I mean.
It's not a fault if it's done properly
Just passed my exam today on my first try. Thanks for all the tips.
My pleasure, congratulations
Thanks sir great

12 o'clock is a great and simple technique
Lewis Wilson that's true
very helpful video
Glad you liked it 🙂
useful video for many drivers
Thanks
Well done
Thanks ☺️
In the UK we use MSPSL: mirrors signal speed (and gears) position look. Just interesting to see what other countries class as safe driving
What I recommend in this video is not meant to be representative of Irish driving instructors, it's just my way of teaching and I try to encourage the use of acronyms that make sense and are easy to remember. That MSPSL is good advice but it doesn't really roll off the tongue.
Thanks
👍
I have failed my test 3 times and tomorrow is my fourth attempt ! Ive just found tour videos and they are very helpful thank you! My biggest problem is anxiety i believe, and probably bad habbits at this stage like coasting. Ive practiced loads gotten lessons and still failed. Hopefully 4th time lucky
Best of luck.
@@DaneTygheletsdrive i failed again not as bad as the last two times but i need now to focus on my clutch and gears i was hoping to resit at easter but thats gone out the window now. I honestly dont think ill ever pass
I bet she did
Hi Dane, thank you for all your time put into these tutorials. I will contribute to your channel as appreciation for the help you gave me, any advice on spiral roundabout?
They can be confusing 😱😭
Again thanks for all your videos!
Thank you for your support, for spiral roundabout slow down early and gradually, take note of the signs and markings and watch the mirrors
Thanks, small donation made ✅👌🏻
Roundabouts are definitely gonna get me but binging these vids help
Best of luck
@@DaneTygheletsdrive theory test tomorrow 😮😮😮😮
How'd it go?
i would love to see the gear and the clutch while you are doing the round about. that will be very helpful, as i am so confused on R/A not on how to approach it but im so confused with gears and my foot using clutch & brake :(
czcams.com/video/s7QjfXslfm0/video.html
Please check out the video above
thank you very much for your video.i want to ask you is it always necessary to change to 2nd grear at roundabout when there is no traffic from the right
Normally but it depends on the situation, if its a bigger roundabout you should be OK in 3rd
Hi Dane, you're videos are a great help. Just a quick q, if I'm taking 2nd exit off roundabout which is at 12 o'clock (or very near), must I still do a quick left indicate after passing 1st exit?
Thank you, you must always signal left to leave the roundabout
Thank you for the tips👍 In your video, I see many cars driving on the white circle in the middle of the small roundabout. I wonder if you get grades in case you cross that white circle?
It's fine to drive over the white thing if you've no other options.
12 O'Clock to approach the roundabout in good timing. Stop look around and behind. Signal and go to the lane you want to go on? When leaving the left or right lane? In the right way and the Mini Roundabout. Keep to the right when turning at it. But to be careful and watch out for anyone coming. Especially the people and cyclists all the time to. The Blind Roundabout which is more harder then the other ones. But to be more careful and SPOT. To go by how to approach and leave it. In the correct way. So that'll be good.
great videos Dane, they are a huge help. I have my test soon and I am wondering about the roundabouts. I always get confused when Im told what exit to take off the roundabout. Is there specific wording the tester will use. Like I understand - First Exit to the Left.. but after that I lose it and it takes me ages to figure it out - especially if there is no sign before the roundabout to tell you how many exits there are on it. Any help appreciated
He'll normally say the first exit to the left etc.. Usually the tester will be clear with the directions, if you're not sure just ask them to repeat.
When you're coming up to the roundabout and you're in 2nd gear and you're not sure if you're going to stop and you're still slowing down do you put your clutch in, brake and go into first ready to move off, or do you go into first and engage it straight away anticipating you'll come to a stop? I've been taught cruising is dangerous as there's no engine breaking but if you're coming to a stop and moving slowly is it okay to coast and change into first to anticipate a stop? Then if you haven't stop I guess you apply more revs and try to get it into second before you have to steer round the roundabout . Sorry for the essay it's just some struggles I've been having!
There's absolutely nothing wrong with rolling into first gear in the situation you described, sometimes you its the best option as it gives you time to assess and decide. Coasting is not a problem if you are in first gear or reverse gear.
I'm being taught to go straight from 4th to 2nd gear coming up to a roundabout or junction, rather than coming 'down the gears'. I keep getting into a pickle going straight across 4th to second, get totally stuck sometimes, where the car comes to a halt, as obviously not in any gear. Happened one day actually on a roundabout as l ran out of momentum trying to get the chuffing thing into 2nd. It just wouldn't go.
Unless you have some complicated gear stick it should be relatively easy to go from 4th to 2nd gear.
Must you come to a complete stop before entering a roundabout or can you roll into 1st gear and continuing moving forward slowly if no traffic is coming (like at 6.04) thanks
If it's safe to go then keep going either in 1st or 2nd gear.
Hey Dane, I have my test tomorrow and I did two pre tests yesterday ( I’m fine on roundabouts on my own but my instructor told me last night I would have gotten a grade 3 and failed) I seem to get flustered when being told which exit to take! Can I ask at 8.04 onward why you went into the right hand lane to take the second exit? I’m really struggling to wrap my head around that sometimes you have to take the second exit on the left but sometimes on the right :(
Your videos are so so helpful by the way thank you.
Planning is important, you need to pay close attention to the signs and markings. The road sign and markings directed me into the right lane. This is clearly explained in the video, did you watch it all?
During driving test if we are in busy car parking lot and doing forward car park menuver in right side and we enter in bay and a car enter in our front bay so in this case we will stop our car or if a car park in our front bay or some one coming out from car so in these cases we will stop our car an
Sie please reply my comment
Not really sure I understand what you are asking but I'll try. You should stop and apply the handbrake if you think that someone else (person walking) is close by but if it is cars you should be okay as long as you see each other. It depends on the situation as every time is different.
Hi Dane I have my test this Friday and really struggling with spiral roundabouts that I will definitely come in contact with on the route ,any tips would be much appreciated
What do you find difficult?
I got my Driving License in Ireland but learned to drive in the UK, The Round about rules in Ireland are inconsistent and actually increase your risk of an accident. Let me explain. In the UK you only enter the left lane if you are taking the next exit. So for first exit you take left lane for second you take right but indicate and move to left immediately after first turn. for Third you stay in right lane until immediately after second indicate and move to left and if you want to double back you stay in right lane then indicate and move to left lane after third exit. Really easy and consistent. on Roundabouts with multiple lanes its really easy too. on a 4 lane roundabout counting from left to right First exit Lane 1. Second exit Lane 2 then move to lane 1 after first exit. for 3rd exit lane 3 moving to lane 2 after first exit and lane 1 after second exit easy consistent everyone doing the same thing no risk of an accident. I live in a border town and it is frightening when both rules are applied, I noted in our video you crossed lane 1 and just about made your exit, if someone was in lane 1, taking their second exit, when you did that move there would have been an accident, watch again see for your self. One last frightening thing about Irish roundabouts are road signs blocking your view to your right approaching roundabouts, its everywhere so I not picking on one specific town but in Dundalk it is bad, I am actually really surprised there are not more accidents on roundabouts, as the rules are different for each derestriction. turn 1 and 2 are exactly the same turn 3 different that is what caused accidents
This must be a joke? Are you serious? Where does it state in the Highway code what you are alleging?
In roundabouts with two lanes, you are on the left lanes turning left and a bigger vehicle is on the right lane going rights , what advice would u give if he was blocking your view and the same with t junctions with two lanes.
Don't go unless you have a clear view
Hi! Just want to ask what should be the right speed when negotiating a round about? Is it the same with junctions as well?
What type and size of roundabout?
You don't seriously expect to do every roundabout at the same speed? If you are asking a question like this then I'd say you need a lot more driving lessons.
Hi Dane, I have a question about mini roundabouts. I drive through one similar to the one here at 6 minutes 30 seconds in. So there’s 3 exits.
If I’m approaching, and the traffic on my right is at a standstill, giving way to traffic on their right (on my left) and that traffic to my left keeps coming, is it ok to slowly move in as the traffic to my left should be yielding to me? Hope I’ve gotten that visual across
Hi Dane, just wondering if it's possible to ask tester during a test which direction of roundabout we're going?
It's just that if i come up to an unfamiliar roundabouts especially the ones with second exit being after 12O'clock position and it's hard to determine which lane i should choose to go in before approaching the roundabout? Any advice on it? THanks so much
Yes ask the tester to clarify if you want but he'll say second exit straight or second exit to the right so the words straight and right will help you to demystify the issue.
Could you do a video on the roundabout heading to tullow by lidl in carlow? So hard!
Maybe some day, what's the story with them?
If a car is already on the roundabout and you know that there is suitable gap as the roundabout is big. Still should we be processing despite the fact the other car is on your right side?
Yes it should be fine providing you move off quickly enough and don't obstruct the other vehicle
4:00 why don't you use the outside lane? or is that for people approaching the roundabout from other directions?
+Sushma Roberts Depends on the situation, but usually left lane is for left or straight and right lane for turning right unless signs or road markings say otherwise.
Hi Dane, what is the position if going straight on a single lane roundabout? Do we stay in the centre of the lane till we pass the island of the 1st exit or do we stay left like we would do if there were 2 lanes? Thanks
Generally stay central, but keep left on the wider ones.
Thank you for creating such helpful videos 🙏🏻 One question; before exiting a roundabout, do you always have to do a shoulder check? Or is checking the mirror of the direction you indicated to come off enough?
Hi Dane, thanks for your video's. When driving an automatic, is neutral and hand break on always best practice at traffic lights and in stopped traffic? Thank you 🙏
You're welcome. For an automatic handbrake first then wait in drive usually but you could wait in neutral if stopping a long time or if you're further back in the queue.
@@DaneTygheletsdrive Thanks a million, I was getting conflicting advice on this... Appreciated 🙂
There is a few ways to do it so it's not as if one way is gospel. That's just my advice.
I live in London, and there's a very, very, very, busy roundabout with 6 exits and 3-4 lanes. Please which lane should i be on, if coming out of the 5th exit and going round to exit at the 6th exit? Please Help.
+Shola Sola That's a tough one Shola, I'd need to see it to give you a definite answer. But try be alert to any signs and markings such as directional arrows.
Dane, thanks for replying me. The roundabout in particular is called "Rosehill Roundabout". Type it on Google it will come up. i just did, and it came up.

Hi on 12 o clock around about first exit straight need indicator or go straight without indicator?
No
Hi Dane, when you are putting the handbrake up at roundabouts when paused for a few seconds are you taking the car out of gear or keeping foot on the clutch?
Keep it in 1st gear with the clutch pressed in
Thank you so much for your extremely helpful videos, Dane! :) Just have a quick question about the car at 7:35, why would they have the right of way to enter the roundabout first?
Because they are on the right and moving. I'm on a hill slowing me down
@@DaneTygheletsdrive Ok, thanks Dane!
Stay safe
Do you have any videos on going down through the gears when approaching a roundabout? I’m always either chugging or slow down way too soon..
czcams.com/video/s7QjfXslfm0/video.html
Check this out
Are we allowed to reduce speed before starting the mspsl routine. Say I’m going 60km and I’m in gear 4 as I’m getting close to roundabout can I drop into 3rd gear and once closer start the mspsl routine.
Or even just taking the foot off the gas pedal to naturally reduce some speed
It's good to slow down early and gradually but when and how much will depend on the situation and how close are you to the roundabout
are you able to enter the roundabout if you want to enter the outside lane but somebody is on the inside lane?
Hi Dane when is the right time to indicate if your taking the first exit but it's straight (no exit from the left)
Halfway through the roundabout
After stop and waiting, is it fine to cross round about in first gear as for new driver very deficult to change 2nd gear in roundabout , slow speed cause other has to wait more to enter roundabout .
What would be accepted minimum speed in normal conditions.
1st gear is OK if you are in very slow moving traffic but anything over 15km you should be in 2nd gear. Once you have more practice and build up your skills and experience you will find it easier to change gears in these areas.
The roundabout at the white rock hill is so scarry, and it's even worse knowing there's a school there.
Trust me, if you think that is scary you haven't seen many roundabouts.
How we deal in roundabouts, pedestrian cross and give way line space is much low? ... We need to scan before pedestrian cross or after??or we can stop in paedistrican for scan?
I don't really know what you mean but I think you are asking how to deal with a situation where there is not much space between the end of the pedestrian crossing and the yield line at the roundabout. Scanning ahead is important, so go up to the line if no pedestrian is crossing.
Regarding the 12 o clock rule would you take the inside lane on every roundabout if 2nd exit is past 12
Is it okay if I am in the right hand lane and I mirror check, indicate and move in to the left lane just after the exit before my exit? Or do I just stay in the right lane and then exit, thank you
The first way is fine but it can depend on the size and space you have
