    I have used plastic tanks for many years running cut lines and rig roads in northern Canada at up to - 50 F and have never had a problem ,

    Plastic tanks have amazing durability. I have split welds on some metal tanks and that screwed trips. Never had a issue with plastics.

    Steel tanks tend to freeze your diesel easier then plastic also in cold regions . My uncle and I had identical Holden rodeos , only difference mine had a steel long range tank and his had the factory plastic . My diesel would freeze regularly , like 2x a week for months and he never had an issue . After some thinking we put it down too my steel tank becoming colder overnight and cooling the diesel off considerably more then the plastic tank .

      Obviously you drive from Brisbane to Jindabyne because everyone down here from Canberra on has alpine mix diesel in their tanks & zero problems in well below sub zero temps all winter long.

    Plastic is the way to go. Just fit a aluminium bash plate to protect the bottom. Weight savings are very important. Plus easier to repair.

    • @joshbridges8410
      @joshbridges8410 Před 3 lety +1

      Easier to repair than welding a steel thank? And any weight savings are well gone by the time you mount a bash guard to cover it.
      I think plastic has great properties and I'm not knocking it, but for this application I think steel or even aluminium is still superior.

      @@joshbridges8410 Try welding a steel tank that has EVER held fuel, let me know how your injuries heal... Selleys 3 in 1 will seal most plastic tanks... If you try to weld your steel tank on the track, you'll be screaming for the RFDS, that is assuming you survived the explosion...

    I'm also a fan of metal tanks if the gauge is thick enough. Seems to me that plastic cracks easier as it ages. Plastic is more flexible - won't retain a dent.

  • @RedesCat

    plastic is lighter, flex with the body/chassis, dont rust, dont dent in when hit ect

    Ever thought about making lor distributing in the U.S. long range tanks for 2nd & 3td gen Toyota Tavomas. No one makes a replacement or drop in tank here. We'll pay good money for an extra 10 gallons or more with lower Center of gravity on our rigs. Just a suggestion. Love your gear rigs and mods. Wish we could get those diesel rigs here.

    plastic may be susceptible to puncture, however plastic is simple to repair if your have a soldering iron and cable tie for filler rod, can even put a screwdriver tip in a fire if you get caught with out soldering iron. much of a muchness for me.
