Run the 8 guard with lever open over the top
1st step, guideline with zero
2nd step, guideline with .5 (no guard lever open)
3rd step, guideline 1.5
4th step, 2.5 blend up
5th step, 3.5 blend up
6th step, 4.5 blend up
7th step, blend out top guideline w/ 1.5 guard open to 3 qtr
8th step, blend second guideline w/ .5 guard open to 3 qtr
9th step, continue blending second guideline w/ 1 guard open to 3 qtr
10th step, blend first guideline w zero, lever closed
11th step, open lever half way, continue blending

Tip* buy yourself a normal mirror AND a 360 mirror. Face the normal mirror and use the 360 mirror to view back and sides. works perfect for me.

I'm 34 i went to the barber up till about 4th grade then my dad started cutting my hair then he got sick when I was in 6th grade while he was in the. Hospital my hair got long n I had no choice but to cut my own hair and been doing it myself ever since for 22 years now. I really appreciate this channel because I feel like many would shy away from teaching how to cut your own hair. Personally I made the decision to just buzz cut my hair from now on to save money and this is no offense to barbers but anything over 30 for a haircut is too much. I've been cutting my own hair for 20yrs.
Never made the vid bc I didn't want to deter from the shops money
A couple tips to accent this very well put together video..
If u only have a basic set. Learning the flick can get ur blends.
Two or 3 mirrors in the back will prevent any visual obstruction the clipper or hand may impose (but one is enough with some skill)
If the mirror effect is messing u up sloww down (I used to close my eyes for a sec to regain my bearings)
If ur nervous start low on the head to practice ur blends u can always remove more hair but it's kinda hard to put it back on.

I have a question: when you use the n.4 guard, do you dig in into the parietal ridge area or do you go straight off the head with this guard too? If I go straight up the head I feel I leave some bulk there which I would need to adress with clipper over comb (impossible in a self cut imo or with thinning shears over comb, which I find also very hard).

When you’re making the guidelines do you flick out at the top? You mentioned it for the 2 guard that once you reach to the top to flick out cus the the top of your head is right there but what about the guidelines before I that? Or do only flick out when trying to get rid of lines. Thanks bro I can’t get a clean fade like they’re alright but the bleeding could be way better..

Question: On one side of my head, the hair grows in an almost horizontal fashion from the back to the front. Do you have any tips of how to fade hair like this? As its very easy to create lines due to the way in which the hair grows and lays on the head. Many thanks, I love your content.
When cutting your hair in that area make sure you always cut against the grain to make sure it gets an even blend. Or else it will make a line every time you try to fade away the line
