The first 5million rounds was just warning shots
I'm just a bit concerned about that
To be fair it was pretty far away and they aren't on a still platform... moving up and down shooting at a target that is doing the same at a different rate means hard to hit.
Edit: Also I just noticed it looks like they aim low on purpose and pull up as their make their burst to guarantee at least 1 hit.
Im giving 5 million in round as a warning shot,,, and on the 5 million and one youre a dead meat
@@johnkurtz7705 because you're a snowflake.. man up!

I’m glad to see that we are actually eliminating pirates instead of catching them, feeding them and sending them home to do it again.
Though the ammunition costs exceed the food costs, so there's that.
its target practice you psycho
It's the American way.
They’ve just sunk a RC target ...
Unfortunately oftentimes they aren’t even sent home. EU countries let them stay after their sentences because their home countries are “too dangerous.”
For those who don't know, this a remote controlled boat. Practice makes perfect.
TY ! The live fire mention made me think people on that boat were expendable !!
Came here to mention that too. Thanks. Painting your "attack" boat a bright dayglow color usually isn't the best strategy.
So there not using terrorist or prisoners to drive the boats!! Whaaaat
That it was a practise was obvious the way the small boat just kept on coming whilst large munitions were whizzing all around it! 😁

Im pretty sure they were warning shots, maybe not I dunno
Im pretty sure you guys can do better. You can easily sink that boat with your lazur keyboard excalibur couch potato destroyer.
The volume of fire put out by this ship is seriously impressive! It would be even more so should the standard of gunnery improve to the degree that, say, 1% of the ammunition expended actually hit the target.
they stopped at the end RUN OUT OF AMMO.
But they’re training. They could be newbies being trained to use the weapons.
They were trying to deter the pirates, to send a warning, but they didn't heed. They could have killed that boat with a few rounds if they wanted to.
@@kennethfuller8347 These are training targets not pirates.
Don't want to destroy the practice target too soon fun would be over, also they're practicing warning not killing
Some people wildly underestimated how hard it is to shoot a moving target while you’re both floating on water. it’s extremely hard, but those electric system were supposed to miss they didn’t want to sink it in the first shot how do they show it off that way?
We aren't stupid. Hitting a moving target is difficult under any circumstances. However, this is obviously a training exercise which only demonstrates they will have next to no chance of neutralizing a real threat by a determined or skilled foe. If the boat was camouflaged, zig-zagging & came directly in at max speed under poor visibility conditions, there would be little hope of destroying the threat. Remember USS Cole in 2000? A small boat manned by Al-Qaeda suicide bombers severely damaged a USN Arleigh Burke-class guided missile destroyer, a $780 million warship. They killed 17 sailors & injured several dozen more. Cole was left with a huge hole in her port side & required extensive repairs stateside at a cost of $240 million.
@@dbyers3897 Cole was in port and everyone was asleep. It was much different times. We did not sit around on machine guns back then waiting for fckn attackers
But both boats are floating and trying to hit a Target is extremely hard there's no reason why that many rounds should have been shot I'm kind of worried

Good news, Captain. The pirate fell asleep while smoking and set his boat on fire.
Yea they didnt even try to really hit them

Too much weed.
title says it is an exercise
A whole lot of misses, a very few hits in this test. It's kind of shocking that the boat's speed and maneuvering, combined with the choppy water, seems to confuse the radar's ability to predict where the next fired shell should be aimed. The .50 cal guy does at least as well as the automated gun system here.
Obviously Somalian pirates are messing with the wrong ships
The guys spraying machine gun fire at it kicking up water probably protected the target - if you're gonna allow the MOD 2 to engage a target - leave it to it rather than confusing the RADAR!
Sort of reminds me of a hunting story my buddy told me. He and 5 other guys were getting geared up when a huge moose warned near them like 20 feet away. They all grabbed their guns shooting wildly and missed the moose. He said it was like that scene in Predator after Blane got killed and the rest destroyed the forest. Didn’t hit a thing.
sure they did
And thus, after 10,000 rounds they succeeded in sinking the FedEx delivery boat that was bringing emergency insulin for the captain.

Perfect!!
'Sir, shall we aim at it?'
'No, continue to aim slightly in front of it until we eat the sea away and its stops.'
Theres a reason on why to that, get informed
It's called "Leading your shots" James. The farther away something is, the farther ahead of its trajectory you have to aim in order to hit it, based on its speed, and the speed of your weapon fire. Guns, no matter how powerful, do not fire projectiles in a straight line - they lose momentum and alter their course, which is why they can miss like this. If the enemy changes speed or direction, it can be difficult to actually hit them.
Weapons aren't just "Aim and blast", a shit-ton of compensation comes into play. Video games are horseshit when it comes to this aspect.
@Caedus Decivus I do love it when people who dont really understand a thing lecture those who do. I've been shooting for 25 years. consistently missing in front of something is not 'leading the target to hit it'. it's just missing it. Their point of aim on the 25mm here, for whatever reason, was just a bit off/short. don't know the guidance system they are using. but whatever,
Its a joke comment, take things less seriously, having someone explain in such dumb terms how bullets work was a hoot. thanks.
@@j.c.duncan5478 Shooting what, exactly? Stationary targets are hardly comparable to aiming at moving targets, on the ocean, with stronger wind speeds, and dozens of variables. You are the one speaking in ignorance, in this case.

Yeah too bad neither I nor the Navy is able to perfectly hit a moving speed boat from another moving ship on the open ocean with a machine gun, but you in your unending knowledge can flawlessly pull this feat off Mr. Bonner😔
They're required warning shots so they have the chance to deviate course. Which is why they miss the first few shots for a while. After they don't, they light them up which is why there is a hail of fire that knocks them out at a certain point. But go off I guess

Navy warship: "we have heaps of bullets to waste on warning shots". Pirates: "show offs"...
It would have been far more effective to save all that ammo and simply drop it over the side onto the intruder.
Thats sorta how training exercises work...
it is for training, and the ships carry so much ammo so it isn't even that wasteful of their supply
Or wait until the little boat is about 200 yards away & spend 45 cents on one well placed 223 round. Oh, duh, what do we do with this little boat now that we captured it boss man
Nope. Dont let them get any closer than necessary. Many of these pirates carry AK's. Let them get close enough and perhaps they might get lucky and take out one of our soldiers.
Good use for the empty shell casings
On the one hand, these guns are likely designed to work against much bigger threats. On the other hand, this video just showed everyone that a small threat is apparently the biggest threat of all.
This is it, small high speed targets are incredibly hard to hit. Too many computer gamers on here.

You can tell a lot of people in this comment section haven't fired a gun before and don't realize how hard it is to hit a moving target at that range while you are moving as well.
So you'll know what every other machine gunner knows. "Accuracy though volume !"
I'm glad to see that the weaponry has improved. Only 50,000 shells before they killed the boat. Not bad LOL
In the words of JED CLAMPETT if that's what's running our navy we are in for a heap of trouble.
i thought it was 100,000 --then he figure out how to aim it
The boat looks to be a Navy “drone” used for live fire practice. The orange color is a dead giveaway and if there was a closeup we would see a sign on the structure in English and Spanish saying “Danger Radio Controlled Target Boat.” The Navy also uses (or did during my 21 years) radio controlled drone aircraft for the same purpose.
That took a lot more shooting than I figured it would.
Modern warships lack defensive guns systems, unlike WW2 naval combatants because they rely more on guided missile systems. At least 100 rounds of 25mm and 200 rounds of .50 in HMG were expended to neutralise a single threat. Imagine a multiple threats scenario, like 5 explosive-laden small craft heading towards a destroyer at full speed. Reloading seems slow too.
I thought "Accuracy Through Volume" was a Marine motto.
No. That's the Army motto. Marines are accuracy over volume.
They just wanted to let the nice sailors know that they could save 15% on their boat insurance
Notice how the gunner on the .50 cal. was more accurate than the 20mm gun without a crew was?
