Is this Fiskars Tree Pruner & Saw combination any good? It can reach up to 16 feet! Watch the video to find our thoughts. You can buy it on Amazon here: amzn.to/2IiWHAm
6:07 Before you even use it try dry lubricating(the lubricant won't gather grime) it. That protects and makes it extend and retract better. You can turn it on edge instead of on the flat when extending/retracting it too. That allows for less drag over a smaller surface area. Before cutting a limb, try to score the underside of the limb with the saw so the limb will not strip the bark as it falls. You can leave the handle fully adjusted out if you wear gloves. That allows you to just wrap the rope around your hand and pull at any length. Lastly, no matter what kind of rope you have, rub wax into it to protect it from weather(mold) and dragging on limbs. Hope these tips help you out.
just got one...... it takes a little skill n patience....and it is dainty and its not made of hi test steel..... but if u finesse it and don't get frustrated it works great... the alternative is a chainsaw on a stick which is stupid dangerous for most of us..... i went from wanting a 17ft sthil gas model, to a greenworks 60 volt electric model, both over 300 bucks not counting the special gas situation etc.... this hand model was 95$ and u won't kill urself ........ ps: props to the camera operator :)
Great review. Just bought this puppy. Great part with the music and camera attached for an up close view in both directions of user and tool cutting. Outstanding review!
I have this exact saw. 16 foot PUPPY. Very easy to use but I'm here to learn rope management. My rope keeps getting in the way everywhere so I must be doing something wrong with it. Nice to know you can wrap the rope around the pull handle itself!
Always make 2 cuts with a saw to prevent the bark tearing where you make the final cut. Make the first cut away from the trunk to take off all the weight and the second close to the trunk, but not too close because you need to leave the collar or it won't heal over. Otherwise disease make get into the tear
Good video. I've had my Fiskars 16' pole saw for several years and used it maybe a 1/2 dozen times, yet I learned quite a bit from your video. Demonstrating how to shorten the pruner-rope was very helpful and so was removing the blade to prune. Thanks much!
Thanks for posting your review. You are right about needing a cover or sheath for the saw blade. I taped two pieces of cardboard (on 3 sides) to make a sheath for mine until I can find a proper one. 15:44
This is a considerably older model they are reviewing. The new ones are ropeless. The weight of this unit ,as shown on the scales in the video, is 4 pounds 14.5 ounces making it almost 5 pounds. The puppy banter is heartfelt, and on the edge. This video is fun to watch and there are more instructional videos from the manufacture and other third parties that have much better details on how to use this product.
A loving husband would have paused the video and discussed the matter off camera. I understood what she ment I say it all the time. It was disrespectful to say the least.
You did a great job and I thought you both covered everything one might need to know. It was so helpful having a woman's take. You look like very nice people and have a lovely yard.
Awesome Video! I think it's wonderful that Fiskars sells a "16 ft pole saw/pruner" which is actually 16 ft long! So many of these say something like "reach up to 16 ft", but in the fine print, it's 10 or 12 ft long, assuming your reach will make up the difference.
Just bought one today, and quickly noticed too there needs to be a protective shield for safety storage. I just retreat the extender, and put the sawing blade to a neutral position for non use storage. Also I placed the head or top piece into a thicker pillow case and used a bungy cord to secure the pillow case closed. I recommend to lay flat near a wall opposed to standing up until you are ready to use. I did review couple of videos first before actually cutting and trimming. I am excited to use but always wearing a hard hat, safety goggles, grip type gloves, safety boots or safety shoes, lone sleeve shirt, and long pants. As well as watching the weather conditions for wind, rain, hail or lightening. Then finally I will do an observation of the scene of the trees and/hedges no that I will be cutting making sure no power lines are in the way and children or animals are near me or us. Until the weekend for my official usage of Fiskars 16Foot Chain Drive Extendable Pole Saw & Pruner! Have a great week everyone!
When doing difficult sawing while FULLY extended at 16 ft, the poles came apart a couple of times. It could just have been me securing it improperly, not sure. The poles went back together easily, so it is not broken or defective.
Ok, some additional: 1) Definitely use the black handle to tie the rope, as indicated in the video. 2) Notice the unique curve of that blade. You need very little actual pressure to cut. With that curve, just push and pull and be patient. 2a) The elongated tip of the blade is very very useful for hooking onto branches and brush and pulling away. 3) That nice blade could theoretically cut through a tree trunk. 4) The pole extensions LOCK in place, and also held by friction clamps. Press the front of the appropriate orange tab while sliding pole in or out until it LOCKS. 5) Storage: Yes a safety shield would be nice. But without it, I would store with the blade locked in place so it doesn't swing around when moving it. Just be careful 5a) Could the plastic packaging be used as a poor man's shield? I threw mine away too quickly.
Got an email today advising these have been recalled: In very rare circumstances the pole/pruner can separate, causing the poles to come apart and fall down and the saw blade and pruner head to drop, posing a laceration hazard.
The sole fact that holding the pole, it drains your energy. When cutting or sawing high branches it’s better to rest the pole on a lower branch to save energy if this is possible.
I just bought the same brand that Costco and it is different than that one. It has a more conventional cutting system it doesn't have that chain. Also it looks like yours has a lot more plastic in some places that should not be plastic. Instead of having that square plastic peg that helps hold the saw in place this newer one has just a metal peg that sticks out and keeps the saw blade from moving. My pulleys are plastic and the adjustments for lengthening it our plastic everything else is metal on the Costco model. The fiberglass handle is the same on the Costco model.
I just received notice from Fiskars that these "puppies" have been recalled. According to Fiskars: "In very rare circumstances the pole/pruner can separate, causing the poles to come apart and fall down and the saw blade and pruner head to drop, posing a laceration hazard." Fiskars said that they will give me a gift card once I destroy it according to their instructions and send them a picture of the destroyed pruner. It looks to me that it's only going to happen if the user doesn't use common sense, including the removal of the saw blade when not being used, and I can't find anything as long or as effective as this tool has been for me. I haven't decided if I'm going to destroy it & take their gift card or just keep it. Let me know if you want me to post the recall link.
I had to use a socket wrench to loosen the wing nut at the blade (A blade that locks into a rectangle of PLASTIC ). Then found out that pulling the rope for the lopper meant zero retraction of the cutting blade... have to open the blade manually after every pull of the rope. Imo not worth the $100+ price tag.
If you have this model, please ensure that you go to your local Home Depot ( or wherever you purchased it from ) and return / exchange for the updated model that has a manufacturing date of ~ 11/2020: Description:
I’m not worried about the cost too much but we are getting older and don’t want to climb. Lol. He has a saw by hand that swings up over the tree branch and saws with his hands.
Probably wasn't the rope but you probably had a defect in the pulley system. Might not have been smooth causing it to fray the rope. Mine is still working as it should.
I cringed at first after the person was asked to not speak a certain way. After that, I was uncomfortable watching the rest of the video. Being able to stick in there to watch the whole length of the video can say that the review was really good. Going over what to say and not to say before shooting a video may need to be mentioned to avoid uncomfortable moments. Editing was mentioned in the video but that may need to be addressed as well.
I love when men tell women what to do and interrupt their every sentence. For that, you get a Thumb's Down. Next time, let her explain the way she wants to, or find someone else to narrate your videos. PS to the cameraman: PUPPIES, PUPPIES...P-U-P-P-I-E-S!!!
You lost me at the 2nd time of being critical for her using the term "puppy." You can always tell how awkward people are when they're openly critical about insignificant things their spouses say or do.
I sure don't like the tone you are taking with this woman. It is just an expression! Harmless! Are you harmless? I wonder! Dark? It is likely. Shudder.
"Puppy" is just typical CA dumb talk used by people who are too lazy to use proper terms or who have an appallingly limited vocabulary . Trust me, I live there and know whereof I speak.
Well, bless your heart. We reside on the east coast and puppy is a cute colloquial term used here in the South. My linguistics skills have served me quite well both personally and professionally, but your concern for my vocabulary is greatly appreciated, though entirely unnecessary.
Just bought my puppy yesterday and checked out this video before heading out to prune today. Thanks for the review!
I plan on buying this puppy after watching this video. THANK you so much for weighing it!
I just picked up one of this PUPPIES today. Thanks nice review.
I am getting one of these puppies tomorrow!
They say, "all puppies go to heaven", and this puppy certainly gets up there. Great review, thank you.

This video was helpful
I'm going to Home Depot to get one of these puppies

I'm glad I read this before I went outside and made a mistake. Thank you for pointing this out

Best demonstration I've seen yet of the pruners.
Does a great Job. Thanks
you sold me! Picking one up tomorrow!
That's one great puppy!!!
The extra long rope was a mystery to me. Thanks for showing how to shorten it.
Thanks for posting your review. You are right about needing a cover or sheath for the saw blade. I taped two pieces of cardboard (on 3 sides) to make a sheath for mine until I can find a proper one.

I got my puppy today! Good review!!
That puppy looks pretty sweet!
Thanks for the review. We bought this "puppy" 😆 today and will use it this weekend !
NICE!

The ones without the rope don't extend as long and aren't as good. Would not recommend that junk at all. This model is not that old.
Man the camera man needs to hush and just be a camera man. I wanted to hear her talk about her puppy without getting interrupted! ☠️
A loving husband would have paused the video and discussed the matter off camera. I understood what she ment I say it all the time. It was disrespectful to say the least.
Thank you guys! - It was very useful.
I will call it ‘puppy’ now 🤣🤣
You did a great job and I thought you both covered everything one might need to know. It was so helpful having a woman's take. You look like very nice people and have a lovely yard.
Thank you.
He never even allowed her to speak!
Exciting. I just bought one at Costco for $50 today!! 🙌🏻 Looking forward to using it. Thanks for the instructional video.
You're welcome.
Thanks. Glad you mentioned this isn't contractor quality but sufficient for occasional homeowner use. Video improved when you demonstrated use.

Green man Tee shirt is dope! Y'all are hip lol ! I'm going to buy one of these this weekend
Good review guys. Thanks for posting this.
Just about to use my Fiskars pole in about 10 minutes. 👍 Thanks for the video

That is one sweet puppy!
Gosh, embarrass and harras her on film, "Please don't do that anymore!" Good job filming this puppy, hehehehe
Cool vids and thanks for the overview.
Covering the saw attachment bit would've been helpful
Thanks for mentioning you shouldn't try to cut branches larger than 1" diameter.
LOVE HER!!!
ive cut a 3 inch limb and a few 1 inch limbs, its over 90 out so im not in a hurry to go out and play with it right now
Got an email today advising these have been recalled: In very rare circumstances the pole/pruner can separate, causing the poles to come apart and fall down and the saw blade and pruner head to drop, posing a laceration hazard.
Great review! Thank you!
wish mine had the chain drive guess that alot stronger..wish you hadoption to purchase just the assembly without pole
Great review... You guys make me want to buy one... I think I will!
I hung the blade on the wall where I have some other things hanging right when I go down the basement stairs.
Did you weigh it with the saw blade? You removed it at the beginning and I didn’t see if you put it back on before weighing.
That was a good lil puppy
This video was so much fun to watch !
😄 Thanks.

Post the recall link, please.
I just bought same tool yesterday evening and am already disheartened by the useability of the tool.
i want one pice how to order in this product
Very informative! Thank you

AHah !!
Over Tightening the wingnut that secures the saw blade will bind up the lopper blade function
Do you guys like the style of blade that's on there? I find that blade takes forever to make a cut.
We liked it just fine. Although, we really had nothing to compare it to.

Pruning tips to boot from commenters. I figured cutting flush but leave a collar to prevent tearing.
There’s a recall on this puppy. No longer available 😢
9:21 a Go Pro / tree trimmer
No price.?
I need something for bigger branches.
Other companies make bigger and better ones, but they do cost more.
I’m not worried about the cost too much but we are getting older and don’t want to climb. Lol. He has a saw by hand that swings up over the tree branch and saws with his hands.
Hook that Puppy up!! LOL
i had a pile of brush from it i just ran over with the ztr, mulched it
Let her speaakkk! I wanna know more about that puppy

So Puppy, where’s the chain drive?😳🤣🙈.
i got the 14 footer- $45- hope i dont wish i got the 16 footer
THE MAN HAS NO LOVE LEFT --- FOR ANYTHING ELSE.
iT S HARD FOR YOU TO MENTION FROM THE BEGINNING WHAT ITS TOTAL LENGTH IS
the string for the prune cut wore in minutes.frayed.very cheap.couldnt even finish one tree.had to return it
Probably wasn't the rope but you probably had a defect in the pulley system. Might not have been smooth causing it to fray the rope. Mine is still working as it should.
You guys area Pip or should I say puppy!🤣😂🤣😂😅😇🤪🤗
Mine went dull way to fast. Now almost worthless
Great review, i just bought. Good point about stiring the saw.
Not recommended. The plastic head is unserviceable, difficult to change the weak chain pulling the cutter. Chain broke very soon.
So it took you 16 mins to tell your story?
Yes, massa.
I cringed at first after the person was asked to not speak a certain way. After that, I was uncomfortable watching the rest of the video. All hope is not lost. That was all preplanned. Both of us in on it.
Glad to hear, it was actually very funny after watching it a second time lol.
She kinda looks like Barbara Eden from I Dream of Jeannie
A little bit, yes.
Puppy ftw and eff the h8ers
I swear I thought I was watching "I Dream of Jeannie".
Laceration Hazard Recall Fiskars 16 footer
That puppy looks heavy..lol
Thats a lot of tree, Next chainsaw review.....
Or just call the tree guy from across the street and my big a_ tree was turned to saw dust in 10 minutes by his giant tree eater! Haha.

I cut my rope in the 3rd pull
😧

The puppy thing was all preplanned and she was in on it.
Don't be an ass. Let her call that puppy, however, she wants to.
Piece of junk. Strap to roller retractor just came off on unused one. No working support phone, no reply from emails. So pissed off.
These fiskars telescopic saws a junk, and they have no customer service so I got fuct out of 65 dollars for a 14'
I sure don't like the tone you are taking with this woman. It is just an expression! Harmless! Are you harmless? I wonder! Dark? It is likely. Shudder.
It was a pre-planned joke. We were both in on it. No one was offended in the making of this video.
"Puppy" is just typical CA dumb talk used by people who are too lazy to use proper terms or who have an appallingly limited vocabulary . Trust me, I live there and know whereof I speak.

Your wife sure lost out
I hope you don’t work with tools for a living
