      Points valid, middle class suffer a lot due to government taxation policy in every aspects and also heave taxes on all goods and services, which middle class are forced to take.
      Toll Gates - I don't understand, this doesn't have expire date and keeps increasing with time.
      Groceries, transport products, etc - With increase in food, the percentage of GST also increases.
      Education/Medical department - With increase here, impacts other class of people. (ex: satisfy salary of staff, automatically middle class need to pay heavy) and no proper support for middle class from government.
      I would go for government party, which encourages or lifts middle class life with essentials like free quality education, free quality health care (Most can make out which party it is).
      A private company provides benefits like support, service, when you purchase a product from them for a paid amount, but our government don't provide much life security services for paying tax (this most of middle class have to think, instead of voting based on Brand or Religious factors).
      ex:
      -> Morbi bridge
      -> Bangalore Metro pillar fall
      Moral of the Story: (No service or security for these people or compensation for income earners to their family dependents)

Loss of what you have hurts you much more than the joy it brings when you gain. And gains are hard to come by and are fraught with much greater risks in these troubled times. And, billionaires lose money, too. Hell, some of them even go under. There is no such thing as risk-free gain.

      1.It is not too late, if you are working an 20-30s something and still have 30 years working life.
      2.Never blame parents, they gave you what was best per their times and best intentions (same way as you'd to your children)- own up your life, don't hold anyone else responsible.
      3.Todays' world has free knowledge waiting to be found. Understand the basics, just get started rather than complain. Learn the slow and steady and boring way. Money and true wealth are built over the span of many decades. It is not so difficult if you are disciplined, doing right things and are among the right set of people.

      my intention was simply stating a fact (I also know they did best of what they knew). Sometimes you don't write everything in a comment.
      Also lot of children also have their side of the story(fortunate and unfortunate) . So without knowing anything about them I wouldn't recommend jumping on them just because you read someone making a statement about parents.

    Rich always have the upper hand, not just in India, but all over the world. This is because they know the loop-holes in the system / can hire lawyers to find them. Having said that, the real estate example, that you have given (to make money) is not that simple. First of all, 'black money' is slowly losing any advantage - everywhere, any source of money is investigated, whenever the amounts involved are high. Black money will get you into more trouble - especially in property, where amounts are huge - you will get threats from local gangsters. Also, buying / selling property is an extremely clunky process, with large bribes having to be paid in order to 'clear' large deals and very few genuine buyers. Making money with equity is far cleaner and you can dispose-off small amounts at any time (Would you be able to sell part of your flat, if you urgently need money?)

There family income is 1.5lac plus. Are they really lower class now, yes because they don't send their kids to the top private schools, want to live in the best city locations, or own a car. Middle class is a mentality more than a financial status. Middle class aspirations trap them into a cycle of credit & debt and eventual make them lose money in the long run.

    I am 65 and compare my present living status with that of my parents. My father was a single earner with 6 kids and it was hell to manage 8 persons with a single salary. However thanks to KV & Govt colleges, all the siblings got their basic degrees and after initial struggle are doing extremely well as a middle class. Not only we own our own properties and other assets but have saved a lot through PF, FD, Small Savings and a bit of equity & MF. After retirement too we are 10 times better than my parents were at same stage with a smaller family and working spouse. Hence with Govt pension and DA which suffice us with our monthly expenses, our life is much happier and healthier than that of my parents. All thanks to Bank FDs, Small savings in PO, PF, Gratuity and Tax saving Housing Loans. I still think that Bank FD & Small savings + investment in PF to maximum extent possible (to save tax, as interest accrued on PF is not taxable) is the best investment apart from correct investment in a good MF (also to save Tax). Property purchasing & selling and investment in equitas is a risky job for most middle income citizens and should be avoided. This is my personal opinion.

Now we can harvest tax every year and generating 1L profit on a 50k portfolio may be difficult but what if the portfolio size is larger? Getting a 1L profit will be much easier on 10L portfolio. 1L exemption is just not enough esspecially without any indexation benefits. Sure section 54 helps with getting LTCG exemption if you buy a home but what about kids education or regular living expenses? @@julies5085 you didn't get my point. I am not talking about asset allocation here. I am talking about the size of the equity portfolio and tax harvesting. And if you tell me that you won't have even 10lac in equities then i am afraid a lot of goals will not be met on time unless you have a very high income and very high savings too. You might shift the money into safer instruments for capital protection as you come closer to your goal completion but that's a different thing

      It isn't clear what you mean. 100% returns on 50k portfolio yo get 1L profit, why did you even mention an out of the world scenario like this , i could not get it. If only were rules and policies were made so that people invest and become rich then all of us would be happy. No ordinary middle class person will have the capacity to invest 10L in equity alone, surely not me after being salaried earner for 5 yrs. Probably after another 12 years I might which will be aggretated amount and interest invested all the years till then. Or did I miss some point you tried to make?

    Thank you Akshat for your excellent presentation of this video, especially the SMOOTH FLOW of exact English words for the listeners.I fully agree 100% with your views.This Modi govt is simply NEGLECTING this class because they are not their vote bank.Middle class people make too much stress on the education of their wards,even by taking loans & they in turn pull up their families to higher status by going abroad in search of better jobs.Another trend I could see in society is to REMAIN SINGLE OR IF MARRIED DON'T HAVE CHILDREN OR HAVE LIVING- IN RELATIONSHIPS.This is mainly due to economic reasons & going forward,the population is either going to shrink or remain stastic.😊

    Buy a property at 31 cr in 2015 and selling it in 50 cr in 2022 doesn't make you a real estate genius. It is merely 7.25% CAGR plus lot of transaction costs available in real estate. A simple index fund like Nifty BEES has given much bigger returns than it with hardly any cost. Index fund given 12%/ CAGR in last 10 years.

Your ordinary "middle class" are those having lakhs of income, own house, cars and leftover money to "try and play with investments". And your advice and recommendations all fit to those who have 50+lakhs annual income.

    The one and the only way that Indian middle class improves is that India becomes a manufacturing hub which we are not like the way China is. Manufacturing will bring in better paying jobs and overall economic situation of the middle class will prove. But the sad fact is we are not.

    Indexation refers to adjusting a financial value for inflation. In the context of taxes, indexation is used to adjust the cost base of an asset (such as property or securities) for inflation. This helps to reduce the capital gains tax (CGT) liability when the asset is sold.
    For example, if an asset was purchased for $100 and sold for $150, and inflation was 2% per year, the indexed cost base would be $110. So the capital gain would be $40 ($150 - $110) rather than $50 ($150 - $100).
