- I haven’t really seen many reviews of this mower by the average homeowner so I thought I would take a stab at it! Hope this helps someone that might be researching Zero Turns! Just bought the 2020 Spartan RZ HD 61 Zero Turn Mower with the Kawasaki 730 Engine and these are my thoughts after the first mow. Previously I had been using a demo RZ HD 54 that the dealer gave me to try out until my mower came in. If you have any questions or comments to hesitate to fire away! Blessings!
I was going to buy a Spartan. Couldn't reconcile with the key pad ignition. Have heard nothing but negative on that part specifically. Bought a Bad Boy instead and have no regrets!
Hey man! Thanks for the feedback on that!
The PTO is an On and Off PTO however, it does a ramp up to ensure it doesn’t damage the pulley or spindles.
Yes, I believe you are correct about that! Thanks for pointing that out! So far so good with mine! Blessings!
I wouldn’t spray water on the mower eventually you will have bearings to go out. I say this from experience. You could probably get by washing it once or twice a year without a lot of problems just let it sit out in the sun for several hours after blowing the excess water off.
Hey thanks for the tip Richard! I figured it was ok since they are supposedly all sealed bearings! Oops!
Nonsense!
@@husq48 Hey there! So I was curious if ya thought it ok to spray down the mower? Sure would love too as it is hard to keep clean just blowing it off! Thanks!
@@markfulwider I've never had any issues, just don't use extremely high pressure and don't spray directly into the bearings.
@@husq48 Hey thanks for your insight! Blessings!
Mark, I went with the RT Pro with a 61” deck and the Kawasaki engine. Also added the full suspension seat. I’ve only mowed one time so far, but I can honestly say that I have never enjoyed mowing my lawn more! First impression~ love this mower! It’s built like a tank but has a pretty smooth ride. As far as engine and components, It has more power than I need and all of the belts, air filter, gas filter & battery are easily accessible. It sounds mean and looks really good in my garage lol!
Very cool Tom! Hey how do you like the upgraded seat suspension? Do you feel it helps with the ride? Curious about upgrading mine.
The Spartan mower I used for the demo also had the full suspension seat on it so I can’t really compare mowing with the stock seat. I can tell you that my local dealer is starting to order their mowers with the full suspension seat because they feel that it’s the best seat in the industry.
Tom Prill Thanks for the tip my friend! I will go to the dealer and try out one of them! Blessings!
Every thing good with the Spartan. I'm looking around for a Zero Turn
and don't know what company to go with
Hey Mark, after some research and testing out a couple of mowers, I have decided to go with the Spartan. I pick up my mower tomorrow.
Awesome Tom! Would love to hear what you ended up deciding on! Would love to hear your thoughts and first impressions as well! So far to me it seems like a remarkable value and does a great job mowing, but would love to hear your take on it AND I am sure others would as well! Blessings!
Me next week 😎😎
Ok so I just passed 100 hours on the Spartan! Still loving it! Comfortable ride! Sticks to the hills GREAT! Runs and cuts great! Might be time for an update video, huh?
Please do.
no background music
@@texas12homestead36 Hahaha! Alright no music! Blessings!
Hello Mark. These are as you mentioned not a whole lot of consumer reports on these mowers .. I have the 42 inch residential cut as opposed to the larger commercial mower. This mower runs and cuts better than any tractor style mower that I have owned . Any one who has a near by Spartan dealer visit them . You will be amazed at what these mowers can do. Thanks for the video .
Thanks for dropping by! Still loving mine! Blessings!
Had mine 4 years now and haven’t had any issues from the panel at all. Hopefully my good luck will continue! 😊
I got the rt sides also! From a dealer in Kerens Tx! Thanks for the review.
Eddie Baker Thanks for checking out the review! Nice little blessing huh!? Which model did ya get? Do you like yours so far? How long have ya had it?
Great review ! I also purchased a RZ HD 61. I had the purchasing dealer in Kerens add the suspension seat, and I couldn't be happier. I have one side of my 3 acres that is really rough. I looked at the Bad Boys, Gravely, and Toro, but the Spartan really grabbed me. Not only the frame, but the all steel pulleys, Parker drive system, ease of access to the belts, etc. etc. seemed well thought out and heavy duty. Only mowed 4 times so far and its been flawless. Like you I'm hoping I will feel the same after a few years.
Hey there Walter! So glad you stopped by to check out the review! Glad you are enjoying your Spartan RZ Hd 61 as well! How do you like your upgraded seat? I am thinking of getting the kit to add on. Is it worth it? Blessings!
@@markfulwider I got the Spartan suspension seat and its just a straight bolt up, with no mods needed as with some of the other style seats. It costs about $450 but is worth every penny. Your back will love it !
@@walterrogers9801 THANKS!! From a long time back pain sufferer

Been looking at gravely , toro and bad boy as well. Give us an update on yours
Dang it Man that thing shaking really got me! 😜👍👍 I was buzzing pretty good! 🤔
Hey thanks for stopping by!
Think I may go with the SRT-XD, and perhaps the KG-XD.
Let us know how ya like it when you get your hands on it! Blessings!
@@TheRunawayGang Bought the SRR-XD today, picking it up this weekend.
The 9.5 GAL Gas tank is the standard now.
Yes, I believe that is correct! Thanks for clarifying that! Appreciate ya dropping by!
Your absolutely correct. Most of us just don’t read our manuals….
Hahaha! There was a manual? Tee hee!
@@markfulwider yea, mine is zipped tied under the seat. Appreciate your video…
Thanks for the video. Going to the dealer to look at one tomorrow and compare with other mowers. But it looks good and a contender. Thanks again
Thanks for stopping by and good luck on your choice my friend! Let me know what ya end up with and how ya like it!
Would ya say it is STOUT?? LOL Actually am looking at the smaller deck size... Good luck with your purchase!!
You can purchase a 42 or 48 in a residential mower and they are built stout just as the commercial mowers.
That thing is laid out, very nice! 👍
I am really happy with it so far!
mark, i bought the RT Hd model 61 inch deck with the Briggs 27hp motor. i had mowed with Dixie chopper since 1989. i did not want the Briggs motor from past problems with any and all Briggs products, but i let my dealer tell me they have not had any failures on these newer motors, well my mower has been in the shop to fix a charging problem from the get go!! only has 2 hours on it and the charging problem was there from the start. the cut is better than the Dixie chopper and the mower is smoother and quieter. i have a problem with the deck scalping my front ditch when i mow it, other than the charging problem i also am impressed with this mower.
Can you tell me about the deck height adjustment on the RT HD please? I’ve searched everywhere and can’t find a definitive answer. There are only 2 marks between each one inch increment which leads me to believe it’s not as adjustable as other makes that have 3 increments between each whole inch representing 1/4, 1/2 and 3/4” increments. Can you clarify what those marks represent? I’ve always mowed my lawn at 3- 1/2” and it seems like that setting may be missing. Thanks.
Bill Kennedy Hey there Bill! I am not sure about that. I head out of town tomorrow, but I will try and remember to check that out when I get back home next week!
Great review!! Does it have a striping kit or does the RZ- HD even offer a striping kit??
Thanks for dropping by! You know I am not sure if it does or not.
How’s the cut quality?
Bones Blackwell She does a beautiful job!
Beautiful!
Great video! If you don’t mind me asking, how much does a mower like this cost?
Tom Prill Don’t mind at all! Mine ran me $6927.00. Hope that helps ya and thanks for dropping by! Blessings!
They get expensive really fast, two years ago they were in the 5k, we bought a 2018 rt pro 54" with the briggs engine for about 5,700
How well does it mow and have you tried mulching, know anything on that? Grass and also leaves in the fall.
How do you feel about your mower now? I want to get one of these but I've seen people complain about issues they have had and everything.
I still love it! No issues to date. Runs and cuts great! No regrets! I need to do an updated review! Thanks for reminding me!
@@markfulwider thank you!
That's a very poor suspension system (read as cheap and cost cutting) for such a big and expensive mower. I hope they change to a better system for the next models.

I have a Spartan 54” RT With a Kawasaki FR691V
32 run hours and won’t run. Dealer says parts are back ordered with no end date. Spartan Customer service was no help with resolution and told me to take it up with the dealer. Very poor support and reliability.
Oh man! That is so disappointing to hear! Please keep us posted on the outcome! I am sure everyone would like to know how it turns out for ya!
An update. Parts arrived and installed. Code was cleared and mower started.
Bad news is it didn’t run very well. Frayed coil wire I was told. More parts ordered with no return date.
What a nightmare. 4 weeks now with no mower and counting. Can’t make this stuff up.
@@patrickfarrell3961 oh man Patrick! That is really a bummer. Thanks for letting everyone know so everyone can make the best decision they can on what mower to purchase! Blessings!
How fast?
I have Rz he
Awesome dude! How do ya like it?
