- Hi everyone! This is episode eleven of my Baltics plus Finland series in which I travel to Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia and Finland. In this video, I walk through the capital of Estonia, Tallinn, at night. The snow is falling and Christmas spirit is in the air - get ready for a magical experience!
This is a silent walking tour, which allows you to experience the sights and sounds of Tallinn in a different way. We start our walk at the Viru Gate and head down Viru Street towards Tallinn Town Square (or Raekoja Plats). We pass several shops, the famous Olde Hansa restaurant and experience a little bit of the Christmas spirit at the town square. Unfortunately I had to significantly curtail the bit at the town square due to lots of music being played, but I trust that I still managed to capture some of the magic!
Next we head towards St. John's Church and Freedom Square, passing the St. Nicholas Church on the right. We then head up Toompea Hill where we experience a winter wonderland as we pass Kiek in de Kök, the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral and the Riigikogu (or Estonian Parliament).
We then walk past St. Mary's Cathedral towards the viewing platforms on Toompea Hill. The ringing church bells of St. Mary's was arguably my favourite part of the entire walk - make sure you don't miss it!
After taking in views from a few vantage points, we head down back to Tallinn City Center.
There is just no other word to describe Tallinn than magical. It is truly a magical place, especially at night, during Christmas and during snowfall - three birds with one stone! I hope you enjoy this silent walk through magical Tallinn. Unfortunately I had to cut the vlog at a few intervals due to (i) snow on the lens (ii) batteries running out and (iii) music at markets - but such is life :)
Date of filming: 14 December 2023

Thanks for Tallinn! I was born in Tallinn. And now I’m writing this comment from California)
You are most welcome! Thank you for watching my videos!
very nice town by night and with snow 👍👍
Cheers Andre, it was a great experience. Thanks for watching!
Hi Willie! Truly magical stuff! Thanks for taking us along
Glad you enjoyed it, Jasper! Appreciate you tagging along virtually for this one!
Wowwwww !!!! I’ve said since you started this series that I must visit these countries! But not in the winter! But now I’m not sure, as Tallinn is so Beautiful in the winter! This is Magic! Explain the difference between London snow and Estonian snow for people 😂 This snow is nice and dry, I bet you don’t feel as cold as on a cold day in England 🍺🍺
I knew you would like this video and I'm so glad you did! The snow certainly is a lot thicker. Also life in Estonia seems to go on; they don't close down a city when a tiny leaf falls on the road haha ;) Just kidding, it was a magical experience in winter. Definitely one to put on that bucket list!
Lovely walk around Tallinn, Willie. The sound of the church bells was beautiful. I wonder how long they chime for?
Glad you enjoyed it, Sheila. They chimed for quite a while, I could still hear them when I went to one of the platforms. A truly unforgettable experience!
Yes, it was a great walk. I enjoyed it very much. Thank you for sharing ❄✨
Thank you Tiina, appreciate it! Stay warm :)
We visited Tallinn in March 2023. Coming back for the Christmas Market in December. We absolutely love Tallinn
Tallinn never disappoints. Thanks for watching and engaging!
We enjoy your videos.
Willie nog n uitstekende Video! Groete
Baie dankie Tosca, lekker dag vir jou!
Another first class video from Willie thanks again for showing this! Is Willie back in Brighton?
Thank you my good friend, I've been travelling so long I don't even know where I am anymore ;)
Very cool! It's nice to see your city through the eyes of a traveler. You were focused on the medieval old town, I hope you also saw the renovated quarter of old Rotermann and Noblessner. Since this is not your first visit to Tallinn, it would certainly be interesting for you to see the change of the seaside. In Russian times, this area was closed to us, now the city is open to the sea. Of course, our city is most beautiful in summer. Welcome back!
Tänan teid väga! I really appreciate you taking the time to watch my videos and leave a comment. I didn't make it to those quarters on this particular trip, but I would love to visit Tallinn again and see more of the city / the country in general. I think a summer trip is on the cards for sure :) Cheers again!
Hi! Nice! The weather became warmer. Today is -12C😊
Hi there! Haha wow, that is very very cold!
The scene overlooking the city is stunning. But was that footstops on the wall? crazy to think someone may have walked along that wall with the drop on the other side. Spectacular with all the beautiful lights. Thank you Willie: Kiwi from Virginia.
You know what, Swanoaks, I've not noticed the stops until you pointed them out! That certainly is profound. Thanks for watching and engaging, as always. Have a good week!
I'm happy you liked thetransport system:)! Our trams are amazing, when did you visit us:)?
Tänan sind mu sõber! I had a wonderful time in Tallinn but unfortunately didn't use the transport system, I only heard good things! Wish I had one of those green cards :) Thanks for watching and engaging!
@@willieexplore oh yes, i also responded to last video with some more information about the transit card. Just so you know, Estonians like watching videos of their own country. It like a tradition😅😂
@@mratp123 great to hear you enjoy watching videos about Estonia! I definitely want to return one day and see more of the country. That transit card is so nice :)
much better than Lithuania
Definitely my favourite of the three Baltic countries!
Love your vlogs. Very well explained
@@delmarmees cheers!
