About Me
My name is Brandon Herrera. I'm the owner and operator of The AK Guy Inc, a 07 Firearm Manufacturer based out of Fayetteville, NC. I also co-own Stark Media Group, and designed the rifle known as the AK-50.

Midway has had 54r for 50c a round lately. They have 5.45 for 50c right now.
I guess buying that case of 7.62 for $300 at a gun show last month went from "impulse buy" to "strategic investment"
5.56 was too expensive a few months back so i bought some wofl 223 steel casing. Glad i got in before the ban with my impulse strategic investment.
I just got a Mosin and before ive had a chance to purchase any 7.62x54R this shit happens. And people wonder why I have such a passionate burning hatred for anyone who votes democrat.

When all I shot was Russian steel ammo last year and the price of brass was 50% higher there’s no way this won’t cause a price increase across the board…even if the effect isn’t directly felt right now.
I never shoot steel ammo, but I'm not looking forward to the increase in price as supply goes down.
Makes me wonder if biden has vista outdoors in his stock portfolio.

I’ve worked for CCI and Freedom Munitions and I can confirm that the tooling and setup to load ammunition from scratch is actually fucking wild.
Most people only look at ammo production and say oh you just need the materials. The problem is is that it's not just materials which are hard enough right now to obtain but also the fact of trying to figure out your formula how exactly is this part got to fit to the other even the most minoot of detail can cause failures and problems.
Not to mention after R&D you also gotta drop a jackpot to get the equipment to even produce it.
After all that, can you price it cheap enough so that consumers will buy it.
And that's brass! Tooling up for steel cases is even costlier.
Step 1: get a job at the AFT
Step 2: “forget” to ban anything
Step 3: be a hero

It would be just hilarious if Tula or the like decided to open a mega-factory in KY or somewhere similar. There's money in it, for sure. Right now every ammo manufacturer has just been handed a 40% share of the US market - the biggest in the world - for absolutely nothing.

They could, but the prices would be ridiculous. The only reason why Tula was so cheap was because the tooling in those ancient factories have been paid off for decades. If Tula made a new factory outside of Russia, sure maybe we'd have Tula again, but you'd be paying 50cpr or higher for just a new headstamp

Watching this over a year later, 7.62x39 is currently a few cents more a round than 5.56 and 5.45 is at least 60-70 cents a round

yep, i was eyeing 1000 rounds of 7.62 for like $275.99 (with free shipping), was a bit low on funds so i passed it up, ended up buying milsurp rounds for double or more the price like 2 weeks later ;(

Biden is trying to get more positive opinions from neutral foreign powers and US allies, notably the EU.
He won't spend political capital banning the importation of otherwise legal goods from former Soviet Block countries that are now in the EU. That could spark another serious trade disagreement, like the one that Trump started, which would be very bad for his publicity coming from both ends of the political spectrum since it would make him look like a hypocrite.
Now a ban on the ammo regardless of where it's from, including US production..... that he might try to do, *if* he thinks he can get it to swing legally.

This is why when I train I only load like 2-3 rounds at random intervals and mix the mags up so I’m not sure which is which. Well. Instead of blasting 30 rounds to practice a reload blast a couple. You’ll have more reload attempts to practice from doing that anyways so less ammo used and more training for yourself.
Thank you for clearing some of this up. All the “sky is falling” channels have overlooked very important details that need to be known to avoid unneeded panic buying. I’ve been trying to clear up some of the misinformation with little success. Apparently ppl want the sky to fall.

Better Czechia than Russia - far more liberal gun laws (full autos would be probably a bit problematic, but maybe he would get collector approval on the older pieces, considering fact it's obviously thematic collection) with still good access to eastern surplus guns and ammo. Plus we have public health care and police is not trying to shoot as all the time! (and if you would go for south bohemia, there is locality, where people got so used to airsofters, that you can escort your friend with aimed guns across city and locals simply doesn't care, just asks you, if you found any mushrooms - I'm not kidding, this story really happened)

Back in the 80's and into the 90's Chinese ammo was being imported. I remember that there was 7.62X39, 5.56 (actually brass case 5.56 that was pretty decent and still cheap!)7.62X25, 9X18, 7.62 NATO. I think I still have some 5.56 and maybe 7.62 NATO.

Bullets are the past. I’ve been saying this since the “ban guns waaa” shit got serious. The people who want guns will make guns and the people who want legal weapons unclassified by law will make what they want. Laser guns, plasma, something! Electricity/batteries or chemical reactions.
In all honesty, in times like these, it’s important to stay positive. Who knows, maybe American companies will hear our cries and they’ll make 5.45, 9x39, etc.

My concern is that American ammo manufacturers will be hesitant to pick-up the slack because with the stroke of a pen, the Russian ammo could eventually, some day, come back and flood the market. Maybe that's not an issue. At least, I hope not.
The problem is right now they are selling all they can make of the calibers they already make, so there is little incentive for any US manufacturer to tool up for something like 5.45.

Sounds like a great business opportunity for any aspiring ammo manufacturers. We needed more ammo manufacturers anyways. I hope we see some new ammo companies start up.

Depends on the steel. If steel in and of itself was that un-runnable, there wouldn't be such a huge market for it.
I only run brass myself; I did aluminum for a while back when it was available and cheaper. But if people run it and it runs well, I mean no criticism there from me. 🤷♂️

With primers being more expensive, labor being more expensive, and lots of taxes on the components and sales of ammunition in the US, I imagine it would raise the cost a dime or 10.

I've reloaded for years and years and I still tell my friends and family that I am the only one allowed to shoot my reloads. I ain't having anyone but me coming off the range looking like Twoface.

For real, I've been watching AKs become more expensive slowly, one dollar at a time, for over a decade now. It's like Lucky Strikes and Pabst Blue Ribbon. Hipsters have made it artificially expensive. They're "niche" or "boutique" or whatever buzz-word the kids are using. Now let's see them drop in price like everything .40S&W did!

Lol. I didn’t notice that. I mean it was true maybe for a few months as all the 5.56/2.23 disappeared like overnight but the 7.62 didn’t lag too far behind in price gouging and availability.

@@hansgruber9685 True. In mid July 2020 I was able to buy 1,000 rd of 7.62x39 for .37 a round online. Not too long after that there was just nothing anywhere except people trying to gouge at like $1.75 a round online. There was a brief reprieve in the Spring of 2021 where you could get 7.62 at Sporting stores and now it’s gone again. A few places are selling it for about .50 a round online in bulk but that prob won’t last much longer either.
I remember a year and a half ago when 556 prices were going through the roof I was taking notice that steel case 762x39 was still fairly priced so I bought an AK-47. Now they are equal in price just grab the case of 7.60x39 for $433 delivered from cheaper than dirt of all people. Who would have thought the gouger would have the best price on 762

Semantically, not a ban, as you can still own the ammo. But this is obviously back door gun control; either that, or Privi and S&B are about to get super rich.
It's intended as the GC, but it's gonna end up with Privi. S&B, etc. making shitloads of money. I'd bet Privi's CEO was on the phone trying to drum up capital for a MASSIVE expansion of operations. Ditto for S&B and others.
I know S&B in years prior took so much of my money as every range near me requires brass + non-magnetic bullet. Them and gecko too.
It bans the import. Therefore an import ban. Or a ban.

I don’t own an AK, but I feel for you guys as well as the people who can only afford cheap steel case ammo.
The cheapest ammo I will even look at is Hornady black.
Appreciate that but I always wonder why buy the more expensive stuff ? does the 1 cm difference or less on paper really mean that much to people? I mean seriously we've got semi autos with 30 rounds or more mags how many of those are just being shot into a berm or pile of dirt somewhere? In all seriousness though its gonna effect you all too in price and availability. I can afford the better stuff in quantity (sometimes) but figured why waste money. Now I'm forced to buy what everyone else is too so are tens of thousands of other people who shoot dirt ,cans and the occasional bridge sign.
@@dustyak79 the difference between cheap steel case and top shelf is far more then 1cm even at 100 yards, reach out to 1000 and the difference is hitting the target and not being sure where the hell it went. No it's not relevant for most applications, thats why I have both so I can shoot what actually makes sense at the given moment.

Love the Serenity/Firefly reference at the beginning! It's a criminally underrated show. It really got done dirty by Fox.
It took shots at big business and religion and made Fox Executives uncomfortable. The money people just need to leave the ideas people alone, lots of other shows and films have been ruined because the money people got worried about what the ideas people where doing
It's sad that it was cut off after a season, but it's also a good thing that it didn't run for 20+ seasons and turn into garbage
@@nordoceltic7225 fox already had the distribution rights to Star Trek and let them lapse, which is why UPN- the parent network for Star Trek- was at the time of Firefly showing ST on TV. Fox had no confidence in Firefly and continually moved its time slot, which is one way Fox ‘gives a show a chance’ while trying to kill a show. They did the same thing with Space: Above n Beyond in the nineties. And Firefly has a grand total of 12 episodes and one feature film, nowhere near a full season of 24 episodes. That said, I agree it was better to let it die while it was still excellent than let it run for years and slowly go to hell- I’m looking at you BSG remake.

We had a shortage of cartridges. Cartridge factories first of all gave their products to the army, second of all - to imort in the United States and only what was left - our civilian market. The volume of production will decrease, the price in the domestic market will increase.

I haven't seen much of any real major drama within gun communities personally, and whenever something happens I've seen them support each other, which is a lot more than I can say about a lot of other communities.

I'm sure it only helps us to feel a common bond when we all have so many common enemies trying to limit our access to firearms and ammunition. The Biden administration left 9M rounds of .50 cal ammo, and 20M rounds of 7.62 ammo. I haven’t seen it reported yet but it’s likely somewhere between those numbers of 5.56 ammo was left behind. The Taliban won’t be hurting for ammo for a while

I tried some of that TulAm ammo the steel cases ate my load/ejection port up, other companies will start making those calibers that you mentioned only come from Russia so ppl can still use there guns and the ammo companies can make more money you’ll still be able to get your 7.62x39 rounds just not as cheap

I talked to a friend of mine a week ago . He works at Federal ammo . I asked him how much overtime they are running .
He said not much . They are having a hard time finding brass to make cases . So even if other manufactures want to scale up production .
The whole supply chain squeeze is going to continue to bite all manufacturing in the ass !
Without the massive infrastructure of formerly state owned russian ammo plants, I’ll be honest this may be the end of x39 as the “cheaper” round.
The prices will come down of course but they’re gonna look a lot more like .223 prices going into the future unfortunately
