A new hospital rises: 4¾ years of construction in a 5½ minute time-lapse

  • Five years in the making, a 5½-minute #timelapse that covers 4 years and 8 months of #construction of a new hospital as it emerges within the central San Francisco skyline. Followed by a few shots of the hospital finally opening to the public early on a dark, rainy morning, and then the time-lapse ends a week later. Starts on June 30, 2014 and ends on March 9, 2019.
The speed of the time-lapse varies in some portions. In particular it is faster in the latter portions when most of the construction work is inside and the only work visible outside is the lobby/main entrance and sidewalk and street work. It slows down a bit for the tower cranes going up and coming down. Most, but not all, Sundays are omitted. Most, but not all Saturdays are included.
Camera changes over the years may be noticeable to the astute viewer. For example, in mid-2015 the camera dies and is replaced with one with a higher resolution, and in mid-2016 the camera is changed to capture a wider angle. Also the camera position and angle changes slightly over the years. I attempted to compensate for such changes, but couldn't completely eliminate their effects.
About two hours of video out of the middle of each of 1,431 days (when the sun is approximately at the same position) is sped up and all blended together. Various software was used to stabilize (along with some manual stabilization help), and to remove the fish-eye of the wide angle view, and also to reduce the flicker somewhat, but of course with something like this there is always going to be flicker.
This is a fairly fast-paced video, so you'll probably see some pixelation when watching on CZcams, especially at lower resolutions and/or when lots of clouds flow by -- not much I can do about that.
If you're interested in watching this construction in more depth, I invite you to watch the approximately 280 videos in the "Ⓗ series" of weekly time-lapses-with-closeups videos on this channel. There are weekly time-lapses, as well as various other close-up and time-lapse videos covering all those years in more detail. If you binge-watch, be sure to take a break every now and then!

Many people comment that China does it in days. Yes, but with precarious labor, without decent wages or union representation, without security or rest, in addition to being a modular hospital that will be disarmed after the pandemic.

Concrete can't realistically cure fast enough to support that amount of weight for the height you claim, and the logistics of moving that amount in steel to build to that height would beggar even China. It would have to be built with no attention to structure and using the absolute worst materials possible to even have a hope of being built in a year, never mind a month. Я в шоке!! Где чиновники и перерезание ленточек? Как народ в США узнает, насколько хорошо он живет, если это непоказать по телевизору?
Нет по телевизору значит и небыло ничего.

Thank God I live in Houston. Big hospitals in every quadrant of the city. Especially all the smaller hospitals in between all the big hospitals . All go up in no time.

China throws buildings up real fast for sure, and then watches with the rest of the world as they come down just as fast due to always prevalent shoddy construction using sub-par, sub-standard materials. In China, things are built fast, but they're not built well. 🙄

@rats arsed Even their own people don't trust what was built for them to live in. Says something, doesn't it?! 🤨

I can't believe you built that building out of steel. Haven't you heard? If you have a furniture fire the building will fall down!!!

@@Roofluffer But its funny seeing what the stupid people think. The dumb are very amusing to watch. It would be boring without them, but a lot more peaceful.
