This was such a beautiful story from your grandfather, he seems so humble and kind. Sorry for your loss but he’s still touching hearts with this precious story of unity and love amongst his childhood friend group that included Elvis Presley…. This makes my heart smile and we need this innocence in America today, there is so much strife and division in our culture.

You missed an important part of the interview. Mr Bell stated that his grandparents loved Elvis and enjoyed him the most of any of his friends. He stated that Elvis called his grandparents sir and ma'am during a time when whites did not show that type of respect to blacks. This respect for all people, including blacks, never ended.

  • @stevepomeroy-rockin-pa-realtor

That was awesome to see you do. Honestly I would just do a complete play through in your next attempt. That’s American history right there. Elvis and Sam Bell and the rest of their friends were practicing modern day normality of everyone playing together in the middle of the great depression and segregation in the deep south. They were so ahead of their time and they didn’t even know it as Sam said they weren’t black or white they were just friends. This is the stuff we should be reading about in the history books. So yes I think this interview is important as this is real history. As real as it gets. Incredibly Sadly Mr. Bell died shortly after this interview. He never got to see the Elvis movie. This information helped to shape the early Elvis years in the movie.

Elvis had a huge bathroom and he would often read in his bathroom. Elvis had chronic constipation and sometimes like we all do read a book on the toilet. Elvis had a heart attack while on the toilet and fell face first into his carpet. Sometimes a heart attack symptoms can make you feel like you’re having indigestion. It’s an embarrassing way to pass away but there was more to Elvis’s health than what people actually know. He had a lot of health problems at the time of his death. As a huge Elvis fan I appreciate that you’re taking the time to learn about Elvis‘s backstory. Because as you can already tail Elvis was far from racist he didn’t see colour he treated everybody the same no matter if you were the president or a butler you got the same treatment Elvis was amazing

The lie about him being a racist was a JET magazine article submitted by a white journalist and repeated over and over. It later was repeated by Quincy Jones who whose wife once dated Elvis. Also "Public Enemy " sang it. No matter how many researchers have corrected the lie it still rolls on. What medically was happening with Elvis at the end? Elvis suffered from a little-understood disease at the time in the 1970s called Autoimmune Inflammatory Disease that likely developed or was accelerated as a result of one or more head traumas that he suffered earlier in life. Autoimmune Inflammatory Disease occurs when brain tissue is leaked into the general blood circulation. This tissue is toxic to the rest of the body and when leaked, the antibodies start attacking normal tissue throughout the body. This can cause pain all over the body, including the spine, joints and muscles and eventually organs. During the autopsy, Elvis' colon was 3 TIMES THE SIZE of a normal man's and his heart was enlarged.
There are at least 4 documented instances of Elvis suffering head trauma as an adult. While some of those instances may seem minor, it’s important to note that even minor brain damage from head traumas can lead to significant consequences. In 1956, Elvis was knocked in the head during a fight at a gas station. Also in 1956, Elvis was struck in the head by a man at a hotel bar. In 1958, he was repeatedly knocked down throughout some rough roller skating “war games”; these were so rough that Elvis provided each player with an oxycodone/aspirin pill. The last, and most severe, head trauma occurred in 1967 when Elvis fell and hit his head hard on a porcelain bathtub and was knocked unconscious.
ELVIS tragically got a massive heart attack while reading a book called "A Scientific Search for the Face of Jesus" by Frank Adams on the toilet. He fell forward and died on the floor. He was unable to call out for help. This book examines the Shroud of Turin from many scientific perspectives, written and researched by a U.S. Army retired Colonel, patiently and methodically searching for the face of a man who lived more than 2,000 years ago. Proves exactly what Myrna, one of the Sweet Inspirations, said years ago... that he was on a search looking for his passage to Heaven. Without a doubt, Elvis is in Heaven and he's leading the choir of angels.... and you know who's in his band...
If Elvis or his family had known he was suffering from an autoimmune disease, brought on by traumatic brain injuries, is it possible he could have received treatment rather than relying on drugs to self-medicate? Could he have been saved? I BELIEVE SO!!! Many medical professionals did. But all Dr Nick would do is medicate Elvis to the gills instead of recommending to Elvis to get the proper thorough examination and treatment for his painful unexplained symptoms of traumatic brain injuries. While we can’t change history, we can learn from the Elvis' tragic misfortunes and work to prevent others from suffering the same fate in the future by knowing the facts about traumatic brain injury.
I spoke to my doctor and asked him about Elvis -- and he said that TBIs can cause paranoia, reclusive behavior, poor hygiene, hostility and drug use. He said that Autoimmune Inflammatory Disease can cause headaches as well as pain throughout the body, and many patients are misdiagnosed with fibromyalgia. If you or a loved one has suffered head trauma, whether from a car crash or motorcycle wreck, or from a fall, be aware of the symptoms of traumatic brain injury and make sure to receive a full and complete workup and diagnosis.

Any strain can bring on a heart attack . Elvis was reading in his study and even getting up from that can bring it on . He was found 2 feet from his bedroom door in the toilet . Do you see how facts can get mixed up and a story can be then made

This song is the best example of Elvis’s style and the reason his singing broke things open for musicians of color. This song is way too short but it is a gem and rarely listened to--you will want it to go on forever. When you watch it you will see Elvis’s raw talent and amazing interpretive style. He was only 24 yo in this movie clip. I would love to hear your thoughts on it especially after your having seen his love for the black community.

Elvis would have picked up the “gospel black sound” same way a black person growing up would. If a black child grew up around country music it would influence the way he sounded too. Any person.

    @ ThatSingerReactions ;
1st : Chuck D.' comment in the 90's song "Fight the power" was based on a lie of the 50's - made up by a white owner of a 3rd rate magazine Sepia - he revamped just because he (Chuck D.) needed a white artist as a scapegoat to blame for the in-equality in financial earnings within the entertainment industry between black and white artist in financial compensation compared to "white" artists. So instead of taking on the white bosses / CEO's of those media empires who controlled & paid out everything , Chuck D. took on the artists who got paid the highest and were the most popular . Like shooting the messenger instead of the one who wrote the message . Later on Chuck D. visited Graceland and retracted his 90's comment when he was confronted what Elvis really stood for when he grew up in the 50's between blacks , and how he opened the music doors for black artists to come trough in segregated USA despite Elvis took and got the heat from fellow whites for being and hanging around with blacks and praising them . Still the damage to Elvis his image within the black community was already done and the lie kept being there . 2nd : The lie Chuck D. revamped in the 90's was first written in a white owned 3rd little magazine called Sepia in 1957 in a small article called . " How negroes feel about Elvis " = The only thing a black man can do is buy my records and shine my shoes . Jet Magazine , the premier popular black magazine , investigated this article , talked to Elvis himself , people around in the black & white entertainment industry then , and came to the conclusion it was al a made up lie by the white owner of Sepia because in the 50's , white liberals owned 98% media outlets like Sepia and MADE MONEY EXPLOITING STATEMENTS and FALSIFYING others because SO MANY WHITES DURING 50's SEGREGATION in the South , OPENLY MADE STUPID REMARKS AGAINST BLACKS . So when Black radio stations decided to play Elvis’ music and Black people started acknowledging that they listened to and bought Elvis’ records, WHITE LIBERALS WENT INTO PANIC MODE and lies like these to shame Elvis as a n..lover , were born to make him hated with in the black community . So Chuck D. fell for a 50's white lie , and was sucked in and made him later on look like a fool when more and more people found out about the truth regarding Elvis . 3rd : Go see Baz Luhrmann movies ELVIS and you'll see what Elvis endured during the 50's as a white kid growing up being raised in Tupelo MISS between blacks . Whites hated him , wanted him banned from TV and Elvis received death treats for daring to be seen around blacks , mingling with them in segregated USA and enjoying their company and music . 4th : Elvis biggest achievement ? Daring in a time of segregation as a white kid to go into black neighborhoods , hang around with blacks and daring to record black songs and bringing it to a white audience = mostly kids of the 50's , and wanting white teens to enjoy also black music and having it become mainstream = nationwide FM radio stations , instead of being hidden on some local AM radio station in the south . So in the end Elvis was a white kid with a black soul and broke with out knowing racial barriers in segregated USA of the 50's .
    Minder tonen

    - - - - This new Elvis movie made him out to be some kind of blues copycat, with no other influences! But history shows him as an innovator & uniter he truly was. Elvis was always credited with de-segregating our music and merging Country Music with the Blues. Watching this movie, Baz threw out all of elvis' other influences. Growing up in the 1930s & 40s Elvis was was influenced by the music of the time: Big Band (Glen Miller) and the Movie Singing Cowboys (Roy Rogers & Gene Autry), again, not even hinted at in the new movie.
living in Memphis & Tueplo Elvis was esxposed to Bluegrass Music (Flatt & Scruggs, Bill Monroe, etc) as well as Country Music (hank snow, hank williams, etc) which was discarded in the movie.
I could go on... Les Paul & Mary Ford, Chet Atkins, Mario Lanza (opera) and Dean Martin (his biggest idol & influence), all not mentioned and relegated to irrelevancies.

Elvis was born in a 1 room shack of a house his dad built with money he borrowed from his boss on January 8, 1935 in Tupelo, Mississippi. That's how dirt poor they were. He was one half of identical twins; the other boy - Jesse Garon - was stillborn. They were so poor, that Jesse Garon was buried in a shoebox in an unmarked grave. At Graceland they have a plaque with his name on it in his memory. He always got along with the black community and learned a lot about music from his friends of color. Also, according to the one drop rule, Elvis would not be considered white, since he has Cherokee ancestors on both the Smith (his mother) and the Presley (his father) sides of the family. His paternal grandfather was not happy that his two sons, Elvis' father Vernon and his brother Vester, married two sisters, Gladys and Clettes who were known to have Cherokee blood in their family tree. But he was in denial about the Cherokee blood in his own family tree. As a child, Elvis already had many friends in the black community at the time his family was one of 4 "white" families that lived in the predominantly black neighborhood The Hill, just across from Shake Rag. His childhood friend Sam Bell said that some of the (black) kids in that neighborhood had lighter skin than Elvis (czcams.com/video/LrFCyNMvZWk/video.html). One of Elvis' bodyguards once said that he thought it was a miracle Elvis got into Humes High School in Memphis, because it was "lily white". Elvis wanted to be more open about his Native ancestry, but his manager "colonel" Tom Parker (real name Andreas van Kuijk) was against it because he was afraid it might cost Elvis fans (and himself money). They did have Elvis play characters in his movies though where he had Native American blood (Flaming Star, G.I. Blues, Stay Away Joe). Once Elvis had his own (apprentice) job learning to be an electrician, he saved up his money and bought his clothes in the same style that many of his friends of color wore. He was called a (forgive me, just stating facts here) "n-lover" and got beaten up several times too. Later, when he was an established star, he would not perform at places where the members of color of his back-up band/orchestra weren't allowed.

The BS claim about racism was created by a writer who literally never met Elvis, but in 1957 published a made up interview which claimed Elvis said something he never said, and the article was debunked by Jet magazine who owned the smaller publication. Jet said Elvis was never even in Boston at the time the article claims, and it was made up by a disgruntled employee who was mad over Elvis' success. Unfortunately, the first article stuck in the black community for many years. However, many of Elvis black friends and associates said they never believed it once they knew Elvis and that it was just a rumor. Elvis even told Jet on the set of Jailhouse Rock that he'd never say something like that and anyone who knows him knows he would never say anything like that. Ernest Withers the great Civil Rights photographer said he knew it was BS because when Elvis called him Sir, then the white reporter asked Elvis why he called Ernest as Sir when he's a tar boy and Elvis replied because he's a person. Ernest's two sons took a photo with Elvis that you can find online and they told Ernest afterwards Elvis invited them to his house whenever the wanted to come by. James Brown said Elvis wasn't only his friend but his brother and B.B. King said there wasn't a racist bone in Elvis' body and then said Believe me I'd know. Jackie Wilson was also close friends with Elvis and Elvis sat at his bedside during Jackie's coma. The Sweet Inspirations, Elvis all black girl group said Elvis was gonna cancel the Houston Astrodome dates if they didn't let his girls go too after the Texas racist told him to leave them home. Muhammad Ali was a huge Elvis fan growing up and him and Elvis we're great friends and Elvis had a robe made for him that said People's Choice, although it was supposed to say People's Champion, and hung out at Ali's camp and said Elvis was the most humble man you'd ever want to know. It's significant to consider that Elvis made the robe for Ali and that it said Ali was for the people because this was prior to him defeating Foreman. Ali in 1973, a year before the Foreman fight, was still disliked by the white establishment. It wasn't until he upset Foreman that all the white folks finally respected him and began cheering him on as a hero. Elvis was supporting him before that. Now can we get any ore credible than the black and proud personalities of James Brown and Muhammed Ali and the King of the Blues in B.B.? There are countless photos of Elvis with friends and associates that were visiting him or who he was visiting. It's so unfortunate that so many don't know that Elvis' peers who were black knew Elvis was legit musically too and going up to bat for them with R&B music being performed with respect and not like Pat Bone. James Brown said Elvis was an American Original and they'll never be another like that soul brother. B.B. King said Elvis had a unique way of looking at a song and had he lived, there would have been no end to his inventiveness. Little Richard said Elvis was an integrator and a messiah. Chuck Berry said Elvis was the best there ever was or ever will be. Jackie Wilson said People accused Elvis of stealing black music but some black solo artists copied their stage mannerisms from Elvis. Ernest Withers, the black and great Civil Rights photographer, said Elvis did a lot for Civil Rights. Early Wright, the black and popular Mississippi DJ, played Elvis until he retired. Even guys that came later gave Elvis props. Stevie Wonder said Elvis helped do away with racism. Al Green said Elvis broke the ice for all of us and Isaac Hayes said Elvis influenced everyone in the business. People also confuse race with culture. Elvis' culture growing up was Blues, R&B and Country music based. He was from Tupelo Mississippi and Memphis Tennessee. It was in his DNA
