Ramadan Mubarak! With the month of Ramadan going on, the area around Jama Masjid is ablaze with beautiful lighting, and decorations, it is filled with the delicious aroma of food, and beautifully dressed people can be seen enjoying, gossiping, and having fun during the festival. The market around Jama Masjid during Ramadan is a night-long affair. People visit the market in the evening to break their fast during Iftar and to have food during Sehri before starting their fast.
There are a lot of food outlets that sell a lot of non-vegetarian and vegetarian delicacies. The place is truly a foodie’s paradise! Some shops sell different types of dates, dry fruits, vermicelli, clothes, perfumes, etc.
To dive into the food all around, we started our food journey of the day (night, I mean) with juicy, melt-in-mouth chicken kebabs from Qureshi Kebab Corner. These kebabs were dipped in malai and green chutney that added to the taste and Zapp!, they were gone in a few seconds.
Happy with what we had, we moved further and reached Al-Jawahar, a restaurant that got its name from Pt Jawaharlal Nehru, who inaugurated it. (Yes! It’s THAT old). We ordered Changezi chicken and Khamiri roti and let me tell you, it was the best chicken I had in so many days. The delicacy was full of flavours and cooked to perfection, so, is a must-try.
After that, we had Shahi Tukda from the outlet named Purani Dilli Zinewal which was a combination of bread dipped in sugar syrup, rasmalai, vanilla ice cream, and mango ice cream. The hot-and-cold-in-one dessert was tantalizingly amazing. Then we tried the Sharbat-e-Mohabbat from the original decades-old shop. The watermelon pieces in the sharbat were super refreshing.
Last, but not least, we went to Karim’s to try their bestselling Mutton Nihari. The mutton was oozing with flavours and was scrumptious. Preparing nihari is not at all easy, and requires a lot of time and effort. Karim’s really sells the best nihari you’ll ever try.
So, watch this video till the end to experience the positive vibe around the Jama Masjid during Ramadan. Do plan to visit the place and share your experiences with us in the comment section.
