Had 36" in three weeks, 12" one day, here in my part of Texas. Lost everything, including a lot of precious soil. My 98 year-old uncle always talked of the 1950-53 devastating years of extreme drought and always said he'd take that over an extreme amount of rain. How right he was. It will take years for my family farm to recover.

We currently( in Hungary) speeding to a drought so hard, I can't even cry. It's because we did finish wheat pretty fast, but the corn already burning up and the same goes for the pollen in the tassel. They say 37°C today and 22 °C at night. It's sucks to see when your hard work just turning yellow months before it should. There are farmers who already moved the corn, because of the heat and the lack of rain.

Even with irragation, it is very Hard to mitigate the burn on corn during flowering stage, with temperatures like that. The solution might be to plant earlier to try not the catch the intense heat stage of the year and try to get the crop to develope as early as possible. I pray for some very humid days in Hungary.

thanks for the north farm crop tour Mike. Your durum and canola crops looking fantastic. Always a gamble seeding low areas , most years it works. Come September/October harvest, you should see really strong yields from the north farm , flea beetles cantake the fun out of growing canola !!

How are things looking at the south farm now? Some durum and canola are going back real fast. Noticed canola yesterday had an ugly red color to it, and leaves were drooping.
    Didn’t seed canola … thankfully!
Our crops are ok for now. Going to need another soaker after this heat.

La Nina hopefully giving way to a return of El Nino conditions over the next few months, so less rain, more blue skies, and colder over winter. 65% chance according to latest NOAA Enso forecast. We could all do with a change as even down south near London its been cold, cloudy and wet since last autumn. My Dad is 89 and never had as long a period like this one!
