I’ve lived on the Pacific coast for 24 years and haven’t been to Puerto Viejo in a very long time. On my first visit about 20 years ago, there was a jar of “Special Brownies” on the counter to welcome us when we checked into the hotel. I’m sure they don’t do that any more. Doesn’t look like much else has changed but a little more developed and definitely more traffic than I remember. I really feel like I have to go visit again soon. It’s a great place ❤
Thanks for sharing this. I am looking to learn more about Costa Rico. The beach area looks very busy as well as the shopping area. Are there more quiet beach areas available for the public? Looks like the area you ended on was getting more quiet but I need to know if that area was also public access.

On May 4th there is a big Beach party there..I went had a great time rented a motorcycle for 3 days riding up and down the coast.
I was there in May..stop over at baruka pizza they are pretty good.

Maybe you should try Cahuita, is very close to Puerto Viejo.
Manzanillo is pretty quiet its near puerto viejo.
