***** am I? How many BASS players successfully run their own side projects. Singers and Guitarists do it all the time. There was Sixx AM but where did that go. They were pretty good but seriously a "famous" bass player is not enough to support a band. Look at Snake Pit, Slash is enough to stimulate that. Many singers go out on solo projects. Bass is a lonely instrument and bass players are usually weirdos and unstable and unfortunately those who are actually good and cool people get lumped in with the losers who "just cant play guitar".

Ever notice at comments people love the guitar solos and drum solos but could give a crap if the bass ever solos, which 99.99999999% cant even do. If you are looking for ANY recognition, do not play bass. Dont get me wrong I Love playing my basses but its not a very rewarding instrument if you EVER want to be considered an actual integral part of the band. Just sat there in his own world, doing the same motion over and over like whacking at that third fret on the E string.
