  • The initiative was part of the Twin Sails Armada project which was organised by Lighthouse in Poole and funded through Heritage Lottery Fund's Young Roots Programme. The project saw young people from Poole High and Carter Community Schools, Turlin Moor Youth Centre and Poole Young Carers working with artists, a film maker, boat builders, older people and volunteers

I worked as Design Officer, (a very grand title!), for Poole Museums from '73 to '83. My job was to design displays for the museum complex ie. The Guildhall, Scaplens Court & the the Town Cellars, now the Maritime Museum, & to record Poole as it changed! Over those 10yrs I took thousands of photographs of the town in all it's forms. Archaeological digs, demolitions, restorations & civic occasions. Ian Andrews as T/Clerk & the Curators firmly believed in generating a living history to be recorded for future generations, so...........can I pass on sincere congratulations to all those involved in this project. I'm going to bookmark this for revisiting.
I found links to this via random posts on fb as 'Postcards of old Poole' or similar! As I understand it there is a searchable archive available via contact with Poole Museums that still has all my shots from those yrs tagged with the name Chris Hart. Believe me, I took a lot of photos of things long gone around this lovely town of ours!!!!!
    Happy hunting in the archives!

As an old "Pooleite" I thought this film would be interesting ..... Sad to say the editing and overlaying of one film over another does not work for me it has ended up as a complete "mish mash" and neither one thing or 'to'ther ! ! The interviews seem most interest and the voices played over the old films or should have been shown separately. A good idea gone wrong sorry to say.
