Hello there! I’m actually the Land Information Officer for Door County! A few things I would also suggest in your return visit to our county is a trip up to peninsula state park to check out the brand new wooden tower that replaced the old one! It’s wheelchair accessible and spirals about 1/4 of a mile to allow all people to see Door County from the top. Also, Door county has 14 Land Trusts and 5 state parks! I would suggest the Bay Ship Canal land trust as it compares to the beautiful state parks we have here. It’s a place that only the “locals” know about and will knock your socks off in the amount of black, rasp, and strawberries you can find! It has sand dunes, swamp, and beach walking. It’s one of the most diverse walks in a 2.5 mile span. Have a safe travel and we look forward to see you all return!

This is so awesome! I'm currently planning for a trip to Wisconsin, as I early this year found out my great-great-great-grandfather Ovren Mikkelson settled in Cambridge, Wisconsin, in 1871, together with four of his children with spouses and a ton of grandchildren, he left on May 26 from Oslo, Norway, with the steamer Hero, at the age of 73.
His youngest son Augustinus Evensen Ovren became a main contractor in Stoughton, so I want to find his buildings there, to photograph them.
"August E. Ovren holds precedence as one of the successful contractors and builders of Dane county, having his residence and business headquarters in the city of Stoughton. He was born in Norway April, 24, 1850, and is the son of Ovren Mikkelson and Marta (Tauberg) Mikkelson. The father came to America in 1871, and took up his residence in the village of Cambridge, Dane county, where he died in 1887. The subject of this sketch was reared to maturity in his native land, in whose common schools he secured his early educational training, and there also he partially learned the blacksmith’s trade under the direction of his father. In 1871, like many another of the sturdy sons of the fair Norseland, he set forth to seek his fortune in America. He made Dane county his destination, taking up his abode in Cambridge, where he began work at the carpenters trade. In 1873 located in Stoughton, where he has since maintained his home. For eleven years he was employed in the T. D. Mandt wagon works and since 1884 he has been independently and successfully engaged in business as a contractor and builder. He has erected many of the best business blocks in the city and more than one hundred private residences of superior type. Politically he advocates the cause of prohibition, and he served one term as representative of his ward on the city board of alderman. He and his wife are zealous members of the Methodist Episcopal church. In 1876 was solemnized the marriage of Mr. Ovren to Miss Sarah Jenson, a native of Norway, and they have two children, - John, and Hilda, wife of Johan Jacobson (History of Dane County, Madison 1906 p.683)"
Photography is my great passion, I now photograph the history of Ovren Mikkelson and his wife Marthe, who unfortunately died in 1867 at the age of 59 here in Norway, four years before her husband, children and grandchildren left for Wisconsin. I want to continue photographing our history in Wisconsin.
From the beginning I felt I had to visit Washington Island, as it reminds me of HelgĂžya Island in Lake MjĂžsa, and I want to see The Boynton Chapel, a true replica of Garmo Stave Church. And now, thanks to you, I know there is sooooo much to see on the way to Washington Island through Door County.
Really can't wait to see more videos from you about Wisconsin!!!!! You are sent from heaven, to help me with my trip to Wisconsin. I hope to stay there for three months with my family, if it's possible with some homeschooling during our travel? I hope so! Just now I'm fine-tuning the camera gear I plan to bring with me.
    Thanks again!!!!!

You guys need to check out Eagle River, Three Lakes, and Rhinelander Wisconsin all areas in Northern Wisconsin that are an awesome place to visit. Check out Three Lakes Winery they make Cranberry and other Fruit Wines. Lots and Lots of trails and lakes in this area. You are close to Green Bay, Wisconsin and if you have not been there yet you must. I also recommend visiting Milwaulkee since you guys like breweries. I recommend Lakefront Brewery in Milwaukee for their awesome Fish Fry, must order the Beer Cheese Soup also in Milwaukee visit MKE Brewing and the place not to miss is Sprecker Brewery. In October you need to go to New Glarus, Wisconsin not only for the Brewery but also their awesome October Fest, it's a swiss heritage community. There are many trails in the area and you are not far from the Wisconsin Dells and Madison which you need to visit the state capital which is an exact copy of the US Capital and while you are there eat and drink at The Old Fashion to have the signature drink of Wisconsin and some great food. Have fun in the Badger State.

I do lived in Sister Bay, Wisconsin almost 26 years. I have been coming up towards Door County when I was little by camping with my family. When I was 9 year old that my parents built a year round vacation home in the fall of 1979. I remembered what Sister Bay was liked in the early 1980’s. The first time that I was in Door County that I was 4 years old. We stayed in a cottage in Sister Bay which I don’t remembered where it was. I did remembered eating at Al Johnson’s that little vacation. Even saw my first Fall Festival parade. Sister Bay has changed a lot when I was a kid. I remembered a beauty salon that I heard a lot of talking inside when I was 9 or 10 years old.

NOTE: It's the ONLY Harvest Host on Door County. Also the Wisconsin State Park at the North eastern tip of Door Country is a MUST to visit on a moonless, cloudless night. It features an AMAZING view of the Milky Way which most of us, who live in highly lit urban areas, have never seen. Don’t have a vehicle break down there in late summer because it will take weeks to get your vehicle back. It’s pretty much a ghost town in fall and winter. Ask me how I know.

Only problem with Door County/ Egg Harbor is all the F.I.B.S people from Illinois. I do like Washington Island and Rock Island. My favorite place is Vilas and Oneida counties, The Northwoods. Hope you enjoyed the night sky at Peninsula State park
