You're right. And probably bad taste and texture: no salt. Salt is needed not only for flavor, but also to aid in leavening. There's no sense in using baking powder because salt is needed for the reaction that makes the cookies rise..

I once mixed sugar and butter (salted) in the process of making cake and tasted it. OMG it is the best tasting mixture my taste buds have ever experienced in my whole life till that point. Eating it made was pure ecstasy and dopamine sure you get from the those simple eliments that our ancestor would have kill another beast to even come close to. I feel so lucy that I live in the modern era where I have the luxury to enjoy sure pleasures.
