I've 2015 Colorado and went for the piece of cardboard right between and didn't had to pop out the cover.
Now that I've seen how to, I will try to fix it.

Absolutely ridiculous to have to do this on a brand new vehicle. I have a 2016 All Terrain and it is garbage. I'll never buy GM again.
