Thank you for this, as I continue to quest an understanding of who I am, what my place is, and adventure into living life in alignment with principles of Aloha, honoring that this is a part of my mixed-race ancestral lineage. So beautiful. Thank you for posting this.
I Used to dance long before like more than 20 years ago in Hawaii these chants reminds me of the past wonderful days I spent in Hawaii 😉
Love my heritage love my native people stand strong this land will be ours again
Mr. Nakamura, my sixth grade teacher in SoCal, had a Hawaiian play at the end of every school year. He had been doing it for at least ten years before I took part. The "bigger" dudes in class were made the Kings of the different islands. I had two parts---one was the "King of Molokai," and the other was when I blew through my cupped hands to blow a "conch" shell call. We did the "Hawaiian War Chant" with the bamboo in synchronized rhythm on the wood stage floor. He was a very influential man, cool dude. Cheers.

Mahalo nui for posting this!! Any chance you could also post the album of chants, "Mele Oli: Chants from Ancient Hawai'i by Brothers Kanilau"? It doesn't seem a digital version exists. These are such cultural treasures and we thank you for uploading this precious album here for us to listen & remember!
After moving away from Hawaii, I kind of miss the language.
The second song is for offering to Pele

You can not tell me that Hawaiian blood is not ancient african blood; I feel it in my ribs, in my chest, in my jaw. This is African blood Hawaiian is african blood
@@MrRANDUM145 roflmao out of Africa theory has been debunked worldwide for years now wtf way to strip a unique utterly distant migratory and genetic historical patterns thousand upon thousands of miles isolated in the Polynesian island chains to some generic, hipster bullshit pan African garbage. Gtfo
@nevaeh230 Yes you are 💯 accurate! Although our ancestors didn't need the scientific proof, current evidence says we are all from African descent.❤
Kupuna James Kaupena Wong has passed to the next world, at 93. He practiced 5 different traditions of chant under one of the greatest keepers of Native Hawaiian culture: Mary Kawena Pukui. His chants conveyed tremendous Mana [spiritual power]. Mahalo Nui Loa...😪💦Auwe
