The grille that everyone is complaining about is what looks good. It’s new, bold, and stylish. What looks weak is the rear quarter window shape. BMW should have kept their signature shape there. Take a tip from Porsche, they have never changed the signature egg shaped rear quarter window off the 911.

Side profile without the kink it’s not a BMW but an Audi A5 coupe. But I am sure it’s a great car and drives very well. As an e93 owner I’m interested in the launch of the cabrio with soft top. Trying to figure out this worldwide obsession with black...black paint, black rims, black everything, tinted glass, murdered out, mafia/gangsta style...does everyone want to be Batman all of the sudden, is there a Black Cars Matter movement I haven't heard of? Thinking about practicality, the only time a black car is clean is when it's in a showroom, under bright lights and being dusted off every 30mins, furthermore black hides most all the design lines and details. Under the sun, black accumulates more heat than a brighter color would. Black rims look like you're running steelies, or no wheels at all and let's be honest as soon as you start driving they get dirty, no matter what type of magical coating you apply. I know this because I owned a black car with black wheels, garaged, ceramic coated...loved the car, HATED the paint. IMHO, unless we're talking about a huge vehicle that needs to appear smaller/under the radar or a hearse for that matter, there's absolutely no reason for black paint. Each to our own I guess.

Great review as usual. Thank you for the great content. I do like the 4 series and the grill is really ok when you see the car in real life. Wanted to buy a M440i xdrive but I will go for a M340i xdrive instead: I have a quite steep garage entrance and the 4 can barely make it, with the 3 no pb whatsoever. Beware of the front overhang of the 4. It is also has a little less ground clearance than the 3. Since I have a 6 year old the 4 doors will just be more convenient. Will go for this spec (full black) but probably with vernasco cognac leather. Ordering the car next month, I can’t wait! Cheers from 🇱🇺 Luxembourg

Just a question Joe: you state that 1800 kg for a 4 series is really not acceptable, yet the car has blistering performance and handles so well that you admit it feels much lighter. So, what is the problem? A lot of weight of modern cars is due to safety and comfort standards and usually the way to reduce it is by using expensive materials such as carbon which would lift the price of the car substantially. Aren't automotive journalists these days a bit obsessed about weight? If the car performs well and handles well, it might just as well weigh 5 tonnes, no? Or am I missing something?

My first ever BMW too after years of Leon Cupras and a 3 door, manual, Golf R mk7 - unfortunately, the mk8 just wasn't doing it for me so after much deliberation, the 440 won out over my other choices. Just slightly excited as it's in what appears to be the uncommon Dravit Grey! Glad to see you've managed to keep your head above water through such dreadful times! Keep up the great videos!

I got an M440i coupe as a loaner while my 2021 M2C was being serviced. If I would have never driven the M2C I would have liked the M440i. Its not a bad car its just numb to me.

That’s how it is tbh, only because you drove a M2C. If u drove a M3C and M4C F8X, the m440i is on par if not better than the F80 cars.

I will be honest. At first the front end was difficult to accept. However I have since seen these in person and have to agree with you. They are absolutely stunning and although this is subjective I would urge anyone to reserve judgment until seeing one in the flesh. Funnily enough the only thing I really dislike is the size of the roundel on the boot. Very small detail but for me it just doesn’t fit.

Both the new G80 M3 and M4 models are ugly, I'm a current owner of an f82 M4 and a previous owner of the E93 M3, loved every model of these during the mid 90's until now, even BMW designers themselves on the launching of the G80 models and other models have said even in person it still looks odd even in the flesh, it shouldn't have to grow on you to start liking it.

Great car, great grille and great review. I have a 330i M Sport and I agree that the Assisted Driving is so intuitive and very relaxing both in urban driving and the open road and no more speeding fines! It is interesting that the weight of the coupe is increasing whereas the G20 sedan is considerably lighter than the previous F30. BMW still make the best drivers’ cars.

It is the one of the most beautiful BMW. It is small 8 series. And the grill suits very much to this color and the overall package. I like it very much. Each Audi has bigger grill than this one. Plus great b58 engine. They did very good job with this car despite all comment this was the best marketing move.

...just as I was going for the Audi A5, I saw this BMW 4 series and it was an easy choice. The look of the car inside and quality inside - at last BMW have made a game changer of a car. Stunning proportions and design at rear, sides and front. Smaller grill would have made this car perfect. Ii think it beats Audi in terms of looks and thats saying something. Audi interiors are superb. Great review Joe - I agree the alloys suck with BMW on this
