you can see some of the last relics of Victorian industrial Britain. The CWS still standing, along with a number of factories. By the 80s, much more would be demolished and no longer in use. I remember as a child in the 80s - that whole area along the river was like a deserted wasteland, with relics of what had been before like disused railway tracks.

I've got some great photo of me & mates in 82 at the power station when it was derelict, we had a good look round. all of the land where the metro centre now if was poisoned with streams full of paint etc. Is the opening shot Whickham?

I used to live in Meadow Lane when I was a young kid, and my abiding memory of the power station is when the sun went down. It used to shine on the glass panels and make it look bright pink.

SUPERB / AND VERY RARE FILM RECORD OF THIS AREA OF TYNESIDE/ GREAT FOOTAGE OF THE DERWENTHAUGH RAILWAY BRANCH. I SUGGEST THE FILM IS PRIOR TO 1965/ COS I CANT SEE THE MODERN SCOTSWOOD - BLAYDON ROAD SUSPENSION BRIDGE IN VIEWS

And then they say 'good old days', as far as environmentally, perhaps not ;) Great that the Staiths still exist as a memorial though.
