Man, the 1997-2009 logo was part of my childhood. I miss those good ol' days when BBC used this logos on some dvds.
6:52 For those who don't know, the COW acronym for this logo stands for "Computer Originated World", according to the CLG Wiki.

The COW acronym (as to the animated series, Wild West C.O.W.-Boys of Moo Mesa) also stood for “Code of the West” (as mentioned on TV Tropes)
Opinions:
BBC Star: Very good, especially the 3rd version
COW Globe: My favourite, seen it in 2012
Streaks of Death: Awesome logo for 1990
Streaks of Death II: Nice CGi and the way the BBC logo was made
BBC Ribbons: Early version is very nice and the main version is good
Flashing Box: Nostalgic for Top Gear videos
BBC Lines and Dots: Boring logo
10:34 The theme tune was also used for BBC Multimedia until it was defunct.
I also remember seeing the ribbons logo as a kid in the early to late 2000s as in Australia on the ABC TV stations they would often air programming that was produced by the BBC so the ribbons logo was also used as the closing logo for TV programs produced by the BBC! :)
I think the Streaks of Death aren’t that scary, but to me the low tone version is pretty creepy

Yup, I saw that damn thing everywhere... and for some reason, like most old logos, it creeped the hell out of me (I especially remember it being on this one Tweenies DVD that I would watch over and over again when I was younger).

I remember the "Ribbons" logo a lot because most of my DVDs come from that period. I do have a soft spot for "Dots and Lines" though, because of it's calming music.

As a young child I usually saw the ribbons or popping after mr tumble, the nostalgia finally hit when it came

In terms of the BBC Star:
1:10 (3:46 closing) was used between 1984 and 1988. The star faded out (instead of reversing the drawing) after 1985.
1:27 (closing not seen on this video) and 2:43 (4:34 and 4:55 closing) were used interchangeably between 1981 and 1984.
(If the star ever fades out on the idents with that music, it's probably either a rare variant, or someone put the old music on)
The one that fades into B+W was seen on 1987 "Watch with Mother" tapes. (The logo always faded out on the closing version with that music)
The other BBC Star variants were mostly on specials, or on certain videotapes.
Also, 4:34 was correct, but 4:55 must have been plastered (since that one fades out).
And also, 4:55 seems to date from 1983 (MCMLXXXIII = 1983), so how did that get there?

Me either. The synth used here is the Korg M1, using a layer of Piano16’ (which is coincidentally the same sound that is/was prevalent in House music) and Ooo-Ahh (the choir).

FACT: BBC made Laserdiscs but those are EXTREMELY rare and hard to find there are some but they are 50-70£
There is a Variant that is exclusive to Laserdisc
EDIT: At 3:45 is my channel intro because i find it catchy (Even though i live in america i still find it great)

The funniest thing about the cow globe ident to me is that my country (New Zealand) is on the map to start with, it's on the globe when Australia and NZ are in the background but when they come into the foreground it looks like it vanishes! Mainly because of the compression and most likely the lower resolution at the time meaning it was uhhh... difficult to make New Zealand out on the map

The reason why I am now into BBC and it's many idents.
Fun Fact: during the holidays of 1985, Noel Edmonds did the Unthinkable in his Live Live Breakfast Show set. He shot the bbc1 ident with a blunderbuss there with those 2 Robins. Guess we are having KFR for dinner. That very tragedy marked the end of modelled idents in the UK. The very next ident was animated.

I have the 1997 and 2009 idents on some my Family DVDs (series 1 to 3 have the VCI ident and series 4 - the one without Daniela Denby-Ashe as Janey - has just the 2 Entertain ident at the start), series 5 to series 9 and the first four (2002 to 2005 Christmas specials) have the 1997 BBC Video ident at the start and series 10, series 11 and the remaining five (2006 to 2010) Christmas specials have the 2009 ident (which is on the cover of all my My Family DVDs) at the start

Was there some sort of economic recession in the UK back in the 80s? Or is it just that every time I see something from the UK, whether it be a movie or television show, it just looks a bit, I don't know, odd. Well, it could be because I am from the US, I just don't know.
When in 2009 did they change the ident from the ribbons as well?
I think it must’ve been after May 2009 as my copy of the my family series 9 dvd which was released that month has the ribbons ident at the start

@@TheLogoWorldUK1 I think 2018 was the last year to have that logo, as I have an EastEnders DVD that was released in 2018 (really really late in 2018 tho) that has the new logo at the start, just as I think the last UK DVD release to have the 1997 ident was the My Family series 9 DVD, as that was released in May 2009
