- Running a SUB 30 5K is a big goal for many runners. Following weight loss and a new found passion for running, Sonny contacted me with a goal to break the 30 minute barrier over 5km. He suggested Cheddar Reservoir in England as place to run a fast, flat 5K. I agreed.

Amazing well done 🤩
Well done. Let us know how you get on with your Christmas goal.
amazing achievement mate. Well done.
Hi sunny , I my self have lost weight and started to run , last may I was 120 kg (at 5ft 9) by December I had got Down to 85 kg , and ran my 1st 5k at 37 minutes , it took me a couple of months to get under 30 , and last month I got a 27.08 🤣 but now struggling to get into the 26 minute range. Did you get under 27 ?
@@danbox3565 Hello Dan, I actually took some time off shortly after as strength training got the better of me. Currently recovering from a hamstring injury, but that sub 27 is very much still ticking away in the back of my head.
Well done on the weight loss, those times are epic.. Nice one 👐
Sonny
How motivational! I started couch to 5k last year, and done 3 parkruns now im doing 5k in 53 mins i hope i can to get quicker !
I'm sure you will Hippy Chicken, keep pushing
Congratulations! Did you keep going?
@@thisisjogon just seen this! I ended up going on to peloton and I now ride most days , I found running boring 😴 😬😁 once I completed goal of 5k , did want to do exercise because I love it not because feel I should and peloton helps with that but do their outdoor guided runs occasionally, still watch ur videos thou 😁
Something about hitting your first sub 30 5k that is so rewarding.
Absolutely Greg
I enjoy watching these videos a lot, watching people hit their goals keeps me motivated. Congratulations Sonny! Currently preparing to attempt my own sub 20min 5km on the 30th, keep the content coming!
Thank you for watching and all the best with the sub 20
How did it go?
Oh I love seeing people reach their goals💚
It was great to join Sonny for this Rachael, he’s a great inspiration
You're so amazing! Sonny!
(I want to go back to York.....
From. S.Korea)
Love that someone in South Korea is watching. Big love
It would be nice to see Sonny breaking 27min by Christmas. And videos like this about helping people breaking a certain time barrier in a specific distance really motives me and runners alike. Nice video as always.
Cheers Chris - it's amazing what a response videos of these type can get, there is just something about the joy of assisting others to break barriers in running.
Thank you for watching
I had the impression about you, that is you would help runners even though you're not filming it.
Thanks Jerf
@@thisisjogon it's not a compliment, just an observation :)
Well done Sonny. Smashed it.
It was a pleasure to run with Sonny, he ran fantastically, and has the potential to go faster if he wants it
What an effort, Sonny is a beast!!
McCarthy, Sonny and Harry - I can picture the video now
@@thisisjogon I'm there.
Buzzing! Great running, Sonny 👍🏻🏃♂️
Thank you Mark
Amazing effort Sonny, well done. That 27min 5K is in the bag I feel xD
I reckon so too 🏃♂️
Nice one Sonny 👏👏
Sonny is the hero we didn't know we needed Ben
Well done Sunny, now there is a sub 29min goal to go for!
I think he may be capable of some great times with the right training. Thank you for watching Stephen
Well done Sonny legend 👊
My current 5k pb is 24:46 and my ambitious goal is breaking sub-20 this year. Definately got some ways to go 😄
You can do it with consistency and determination. All the best and thank you for watching
This is awesome!
Thank you for watching Adam, you are awesome
Well done to sonny
Cheers Stuart, he ran very well
Yeah, congrats to Sonny - well done 👌👏 And thanks to you Harry, for another motivational video (and for pacing him) 👍 Jo
Cheers Jo 🧡
Well done, Sonny, on the weight loss and the sub-30. The PBs will keep coming.
Thank you April, I think he has high hopes and quite rightly
Appreciate you watching and commenting
Well done Sonny and a great job from Harry.
I'm on a similar journey myself and aiming for 27 minutes by Christmas.
We got this Sonny! 💪🧡
#Team27
Best of luck Dave! 🙌
@@NickyJones99 thank you Nicky 🙂
Well done Sonny! Great run! And excellent gate opening pace making Harry 😂 I also have a Christmas 5k goal. Going to try and get back under 25 again! 💪 good luck with the 27!
Clare and Sonny, the Christmas 5K dream duo
Brilliant 🤩
Cheers Becci
Well done Sonny !! Looking good for some further speed down the line this year Great motivation and video Harry … I thought for a minute the nun and her friend were going to put a spanner in the works ! 😂
Would have been great if the nun just started screaming in support
Cheers for watching Michael
great helping with his pacing and the gate opening, well done sonny!
The gates were the true challenge - thank you as always Oli 🧡
Well done Sonny, keep it up! Do be wary of progressing too quickly, consistency is key and the results will come.
🧡
Love these videos! Might gavehad a little cry at the end- massive well done sonny. My aim is to get below 35 mins for a park run
Love it Bronagh, and thank you. You can do it if you put your mind to it
Well Done! Come back to Cheddar for Sharpham Road Playing Fields Parkrun! :)
Thanks for watching and commenting - yes it's on the cards, one day
Well done Sonny! Fine effort. Inspiring to many, I’m sure.
Many thanks Steve
Harry just found your channel and now binge watching! Absolute top quality content 💪
Love it Gary, thank you very much
Harry
Great running Sonny, sub-30 #awesome Give me a shout when you are ready to go sub-27 and I will come down and be chief cheerleader and gate opener for you guys 👍
Thank you Colin
Love this - currently trying that same barrier. Thanks for the inspiration chaps.
Thanks for watching! All the best with your own efforts
Wow, great run by Sonny, what an inspiration! He's sure to hit his next target of 27:00 by Christmas!
That's the goal, cheers Barnaby
Well done Sonny! Great run. Like others have said, seeing others achieving their goals definitely adds a bit of motivation here too!
Onto the Manchester 10k tomorrow!
Brilliant Nathan, have a great 10K tomorrow, enjoy it
@@thisisjogon cheers! Hoping to bag another PB before XC season rolls round!
Get in!! 💪😃 That was so motivating.
Awesome 🔥
Completely smashed it - well done Sonny. Great to see content like this for some motivation. Thanks for sharing guys.
Thank you Time On Feet
Well done Sonny, fantastic run! Another brilliant Jog On video, thank you Harry, really encouraging to see.
Thank you as always Charmian
Smashed it sonny amazing work! love as soon as you did this you were already thinking about the next time goal to work towards 💪🧡
Sonny means business
Your channel inspired me to pace runners to PBs at Parkruns when I was just there for an easy run and not trying to hit a PB. It’s been a blast!
That’s awesome Jon. Keep up the great work, it’s a satisfying job, pacing
H
Congratulations Sonny, a great effort to smash that sub 30. And Harry, you are becoming a pro at gate opening on the runs!!
Thanks Chris, gate opening is becoming a speciality
What a fantastic video! Harry and Sonny, you make a great team! 🧡
Thank you Kerry 🧡
Great work !! Smashed it Sonny !
Cheers Jim
Awesome! well done guys.
Thanks James
I don't know how we stumbled upon your channel but I'm glad we did. Great, wholesome content and great quality vids. Very much enjoying them. Keep up the good work!
Welcome aboard and glad to have you.
Thank you
Well done Sonny! 👏🏾
Epic effort from Sonny! (and the gate opener haha) - Another great episode Harry :D
Cheers Mike 🧡
Excellent running 👏🏻👏🏻💫 chuffed for you! I remember my first sub 30 5km, feels so good to kick that goal 🙌🏻
A great barrier for many
This is an aspiring video... It reminds me of the time when I first try to break the 30mins mark for 5km myself... Keep it up Sonny!
🧡
Well done Sonny! That's a great time! I started running in March and just got my best 5k time of 34.42. Your video inspired me to go for it tonight and I knocked off almost 2 minutes from my last PB. You and Harry are pretty inspiring!
Cheers for watching - Sonny is a legend
Fantastic run. Great videos. Love these videos helping runners to achieve.
Thank you
Well done Sonny.
🏃
First off, great motivation and congrats to the both of you! I must admit, though, the thought of circumnavigating(twice) a body of water named "Cheddar Reservoir" makes my stomach a little queasy. Very picturesque spot, on the other hand. Love the visual. I digress. I was impressed by Sonny's grit and determination and Harry's gatekeeping and perfect pacing. Harry provided just the right mix of gentle urging and Martinet-like efficiency in ticking off the kilometers. I suppose "there's an APP", but it aint gonna open the gates, or sidestep the nuns! Fortunately, I don't expect to encounter such obstacles in an upcoming 5K(one month form now) in South Florida. 35 years ago, I lived in NYC and would willingly show up for the odd corporate run in Central Park but, alas, at 68 it's a C25K program this time. Shooting for sub 30 minutes, like Sonny. By the way, no offense meant to the Village of Cheddar. The 5K I'm running is in the City of Boca Raton (English translation: "Rat's Mouth"). Cheers, Tom!
Great stuff Tom, and thank you for taking the time to watch. Wish you all the best with the SUB 30 goal.
I hope to come run in Florida again in the not too distant future.
Run strong,
Harry
Again well done Sonny, I totally understand what breaking the 30 minute barrier means to keeping you motivated. Just did the Tyne green park run yesterday at 29:21. Did Sonny break the 27 as this is my new 5K park run goal and now on,y 8 weeks to my half marathon. Another great video Harry.
Thanks for watching and commenting on this video. Sonny was great to run with again
Awesome effort. My first 5k after completing the c25k app was 30:18 and now nearly 8 months later I've set a 20:56 so I definitely think that 27 minutes is a solid and doable target before christmas.
Thank you Hargo J, great work yourself
Absolutely, just commitment and consistency as you know
Another great video
Appreciate it Steve, thank you
Congrats to sunny goes his progress now, these are great goals, my most recent 5k park run was 35:51! Getting better every day 🏃🏼♀️😂😁
🏃♂️
More videos with Sonny!! 👍🏻
The Sonny Trilogy will happy
I'm doing a bit of training for when our Park Runs actually start up again and today I managed 5k in 40min. I'm a beginner, middle-aged and working on weight loss. It did help to control my breathing.
Nice work Kathryn - breathing is often overlooked in running
Well done Sonny! An inspiration!
an inspiration indeed Cara, thank you for watching
Well done mate
🏃♂️ 🔥
Well done Sonny and Harry, great work there 👏 Best of luck for sub 27 mins by Christmas - hang on in there, you've got this Sonny!
Fingers crossed Nicky, thank you
I agree with what others have said that watching you help people to attempt a certain milestone is very motivating to watch, great with that personal angle.
Don’t suppose you’ll be around Bournemouth HM in October to pace me to sub 2 hrs? 🤣 I’ve been working hard for last few months on it.
@@NickyJones99 pretty much completely booked up for October - as well as getting a place last minute... that would be an absolutely marvellous video to shoot.
Ok Harry, 😆 but maybe you could put on another JogOn community virtual run in the future? 🧡
@@NickyJones99 absolutely - maybe drop us a message on Instagram or Facebook, definitely potential to set up an HM pacing video some time
so wholesome
🧡
New to this channel, and an instant fan! I quite like these videos that feature runners closer to my own skill level. Hoping to get sub 30 in my first 5k race next week!
All the best Amanda, you can do it
@@thisisjogon 29:11!
@@Amanda-fb7tv Brilliant very well done!
congrats bro, you killed it 🤙🏽
Cheers for watching
I've just found this channel and I'm so glad I have ☺️
I've been trying to jog now and getting more consistent. I was a sprinter at school and always said I could never run more than 200m. The longest I have ever run is 8KM and it's such an achievement for me. I guess the next step is trying to improve times. . . . . . Please could you share tips on how to improve times for the inexperienced. How to run fast for a long time consistently? I just cannot master this. I either sprint at first for a short amount time and flake out. Or I manage the distance, but I'm going slow.
Be consistent, week in week out and slowly bring the mileage up. Do what works for you, consider a coach and a club.
Thank you for watching
Yesss
Yes Steven
@@thisisjogon yesssss
stache looks sweet man!
It didn’t make a return
Excellent. I'm sitting at 32:29 and looking to break the 30mins come the end of May.
Started running start of March 22 at 22.5 stone, now down to 20 stone so it's getting easier!!
Brilliant stuff Gordon, and great to hear. Very well done and thank you for watching a JOG ON video.
All the best with the next 2 stone and 2 minutes!
Harry
Watching this is motivating me to run the same 5k i ran last year and see if i can beat my time of 27:17. For a 29 year guy who weight over 100 kilo, i surprised myself because the was for me was to make it to the finish line.(didnt think sub 30 was possible lol)
Thank you for watching - keep up the great effort
Looking at that pace I'm thinking I too 'might' have broke the 30min barrier this morning. I'll never know as my stopwatch paused on 5sec 😮. I did run without stopping though which was an achievement itself 👍
Woah woah woah I didn't even realize this was a small channel
Haha, we’re super small, but passionate.
Thank you for watching
Well done, Sonny.
I’m hoping we complete the Sonny Trilogy in 2023
Nice video. Will you be doing the rushmoor 10k?
On the microphone for it hopefully Richard
I’m here after watching sSonny running his first half marathon. Also Harry if you wanna help me reach a sub 25min 5K that would be great currently 27:30 🥺
Keep pushing! Will be bringing out some key points that can help improve a 5K
I am 55 and a good 40 pounds overweight.
Yesterday I did my first couch to 5K session.
My goal is to do 5K never mind in any kind of time 😀.
🤞 I'll make it.
Brilliant stuff Ian
Keep it up!
Harry
Vamooooo

Christmas update for Sonny going sub 27?!
Not a bad shout. Spoke to him today he’s taken some time off to focus on strength.
I’m hoping he’ll make a triumphant return in 2022
Thanks for watching and commenting
Well done Sonny! And well done Harry!
If it was me going for a PB I just know we'd have been delayed by a bus load nuns disembarking from a double-decker! I swear I lost 10 to 15 seconds on a parkrun PB attempt, having been unable to get past two middle-aged women "joggers" having a cosy chat about hairdressers.
As for setting the record running around "Cheddar Reservoir"! That is screaming for a bad pun. I'll resist.
Thank you David, very impressed by the size of Cheddar Reservoir and its running conditions, bar a few gates...
@@thisisjogon Thank you Harry. That reservoir does look huge. But I must be strong and resist making a terrible pun. It is time I acted like a matur--! Oh fu--!!
Moustache looks epic mate
Thank you, amazingly it didn’t last long
@@thisisjogon
Bring it back then! Honestly looks excellent. My wife doesn't like them, but I managed to sneak one in, given that we went to a 1920s night at our local church last weekend and of course I had to look the part :) I've had it since.. wonder how long it'll last lol. All the best
