  • Hello Everyone, The 79 is operated by London Sovereign from Edgware [BT] Garage using 2018 Gemini 3 B5LH's as well as occasional 2012 Enviro400's & 2018 Enviro400MMC's. I got a 2016 Gemini 3 B5LH bus which is a transfer from Westbourne Park (X) Garage.
    The route was with Metroline with Gemini 2's from Perivale East [PV] Garage until December 2018. The route went to RATP using Scania Omnicities from H91, because H91 needed the G3's because of some silly euro 6 emission thing; which made 79 to use an even older allocation than RATP. Then in 2020, the 79 thankfully got the Gemini 3's back after the loss of 285 to Abellio, which improved the route. Overall, the route is alright other than the Wembley traffic which was extremely long. The driver was also fast at times, especially at the start and along Beresford Avenue.
    On the 26th August 2023, the route was withdrawn between Alperton Station & Alperton Sainsbury's and has been extended to Stonebridge Park Station. At the same time, 83 was extended to Alperton Sainsbury's. I am against this change for a number of reasons:
    The 79 extension was not enough to improve the link between Alperton and Stonebridge Park. The 79 only helped to connect Ealing Road & Wembley Central as well as the ACE Café and the regeneration area along Beresford Avenue to Stonebridge Park. More people are unhappy than happy about this change alongside the 83. This is mainly due to the fact that you still cannot go from Alperton Station to Stonebridge Park Station directly. If you take the 224 from Alperton Station, you have to walk from Heather Park Drive to Stonebridge Park. Whereas if you take the 79, you have to walk to Mount Pleasant from Alperton Station to get to Stonebridge Park. The 79 does not even serve Alperton Station, it just turns off Ealing Road into Mount Pleasant (vice versa). As of the 10th October 2023, Google Maps still recommends taking the 224 to Stonebridge Park from Alperton. You cannot go from Kingsbury & Preston Road directly to Alperton Sainsbury's as most elderly people use that route to do formal shopping.
    The 79 extension is useless. When I visualised this route, I was the only person on the top deck between Stanley Avenue (Ealing Road) to Stonebridge Park Station. There was only 8 people on board the whole time including me and the bus driver.
    Instead of me ranting about why the change is bad, let me tell you what they would've done to improve both links:
    - I believe a new bus route that passes through the A4005 & Harrow Road should in fact serve Stonebridge Park through Alperton Station due to there being no link between those three areas as well as passing through South Harrow, Roxeth Green Avenue & Roxeth Hill.
    - Extended the 83 to Stonebridge Park via: Mount Pleasant & Beresford Avenue and made it do a loop around to serve Alperton Station bus stops [B] in both directions.
    - Make 224 do a loop at Stonebridge Park Station then continue it's way along it's normal routing.
    - Re-instate the 224 routing Pre-December 2019 towards Wembley
    - Extend the H17 from Wembley Central (as I stated with 83).
    In the end, there was no point in me in me responding to the consultations that came out in April 2023 because TFL wouldn't even listen anyways. Although, I do email and send them proposed bus routes, along this area which don't really get noticed.
    Apart from that, enjoy the visual!

    Great Visual! I think this new extension is quite nice, although I would prefer this route with ADEs but its only a matter of Choice.

      Thank You Very Much! The route has some level of relevance, but TFL could've done better. ADE's do look good on the 79 tho!

      Yes, I do miss the Alperton terminus.
      The 83 should have been extended instead.

      Thank You Very Much! 79 was so much better in Alperton Sainsbury's than at Stonebridge Park!

    Yeah extending H17 is a good idea because it is already a short route to begin with

      @jtransportbuses  Před 11 měsíci +1

      Very True! It would've worked out better in my opinion, whilst still serving Wembley Central Station.

      TfL might still be considering that absurd merger of the 258 into the H17 so that might be why the route is not being extended.

    • @jtransportbuses
      @jtransportbuses  Před 7 měsíci +1

      That would cause a massive burden on the 142 from Bushey to Watford Junction@@AB-ii5pi

      @jtransportbuses  Před 7 měsíci +1

      Also, how can a double decker bus (258) go down Chaplin Road anyway???@@AB-ii5pi

    • @AB-ii5pi
      @AB-ii5pi Před 7 měsíci +1

      @@jtransportbuses either tfl believes they can or they would have routed the 258 down the 18/92/182/204’s routing & kept Chaplin Road without a bus service.
      Yes the 142 would get very packed out but tfl believe that only 4.5 bph are needed on that corridor when there is currently 9 according to their ‘data’.
