I believe Helicopter was who THE TEAM wanted all along. Having handles is good, but the ultimate showtime will always be dunks. Luckily for the Professor aka White Jesus, he had developed such a following during the season, the EXECUTIVES pushed that win through. With thanx to Albrto putting these back to back, it's easy to see from last season that Fess was getting less hungry and less scared of going home from one episode to the next. Getting Helicopter on via the overseas tour was likely the only other way to put him on.

Call me a hater, but I believe the road Professor took was a complete slap to the face of his parents.
The common denominator for all the other players is that they honed their skills on the streets and playgrounds. They might have gone to the average summer basketball camps, but chances are extremely slim that they had parent's / auntie's / grandma's shelling out money for the GOOD camps and one-on-one lessons. This dude has his own ball-handling coach which means he has a paid professional showing him the basis of all his moves, unlike the average baller who learns what they learn from either from watching another baller or from creating the moves themselves.
And what does he do with their investment? I mean, his situation wasn't do-or-die. His parents weren't about to lose the house. Nobody needs that expensive surgery. He basically weighed the choices of (A) go to college, work hard, try for a shot as the next Muggsy Bogues and a lucrative basketball career or (B) jump on this "fleeting" And1 hype, make some easy money, and be the "white Saviour" ESPN needs to spread the demographic (cuz you gotta admit he was somewhat of an entitled a-hole last season and wasn't ALL that impressive in comparison to Helicopter, yet there he is). Took the easy money instead of the hard work his parents PAID for.
