    I have a cleft palate, but got surgery. I also had a really bad case, and when I ate it would come out of my nose. I had to get a feeding tube and still have the scar till today. The amount of joy that chou chou gave me from this video was astronomical.

    As a child, I vomited a lot too. We were fortunate in that we owned a TV (yes, I'm that old...76 in May), so the doctor thought of feeding me an hour before everyone else in front of the TV. The food went down and stayed down because my mind was not on the food. To this day, I still watch a movie on Prime or something on TV, if there is anything good... Plus, I can get smaller meals down while reading. So as a human, eating is hard for me, too. I understand poor ChouChou. I hope he is able to have surgery and be able to eat the proper way...and actually taste the food! Prayers...

      I have to watch tv or just distract myself in some way in order to eat. I’ve been this way since i was 12 because I’ve got ARFID. I’m 18 and supposed to speak with someone who specializes with eds. I’ve received no help yet though. I can only eat in my room and have a hard time being around food outside of it. It doesn’t help that it triggers my emetaphobia. I was underweight for a while but now I’ve gained over 30 pounds! I take a medication because the side effect makes me actually want to eat. Sorry rant. 76! that’s wonderful :) I’m glad you’ve pushed through despite your struggles. I know how hard it is to struggle with food. I send my thoughts ❤️💕💖

    I’m so glad Chou Chou is doing well after the problems he (and you) went through with his E tube. It’s weird, I follow a lot of fosters, and I had never seen an E tube in a kitten this small until recently, but another foster I follow had a small kitten who stopped eating because of a virus and was not recovering. She finally had an E tube placed. Luckily, she doesn’t have a cleft palate, so she tolerated it. She eventually began eating on her own, and her tube was removed. Sadly, one of her sisters passed away from whatever virus made the litter sick.
    I love seeing Chou Chou so energetic now. It’s going to be hard for all of us when he is adopted someday. Assuming he is with you for 6-7 months, that’s a lot more time for everyone to fall in love with him. I think we all feel like he is sort of collectively our baby.

    I'm surprised that he actually enjoys eating this way. I imagine it to be so uncomfortable and (as someone who has fortunately never experienced it) I dread the thought of having a tube forced into me like that.
    But of course it totally makes sense, he doesn't know it any other way! He just knows he will have a nice full belly so why wouldn't he love it. It makes me so happy and emotional seeing Chouchou just loving life and thriving even though he has these issues.

    Finally, a kitten like me! Or, partly like me, at least... I'm a 35-year-old woman tube-fed since birth due to systemic central nervous system damage; I also have a very high pseudo-cleft palate. Both are from congenital varicella syndrome, which means I caught and was damaged by my mother's chickenpox as a fetus in utero. (Get vaxxed, kids!) I had a g-tube inserted at 3 days old, which wore out after 26 years and had to be replaced by the one I have currently. Of course, my tubes were placed in my abdomen, directly over where my stomach lies, which is typical for humans. So it was fascinating to see that they put g-tubes via the throat in cats (and, I assume, dogs too)! My first thought was that Chouchou's misadventure may have been because the tube was too high up for him? Bypassing the esophagus entirely might solve the problem... But do they ever place g-tubes in cats' abdomens - maybe via a sideways direction instead of directly over? Or is it _always_ via the throat?
    Anyway, good for Chouchou for getting this far! And don't feel bad for him for not being able to taste his food - he's never known any other way, but clearly he enjoys his food regardless! I'm never going to eat orally myself, but that's fine with me because the thought of eating orally actually _really_ grosses me out. It'll be interesting to see whether Chouchou feels similarly!

    Chouchou has got to be THE cutest little bundle of fuzziness on the planet. He's just absolutely adorable! Hannah, your loving care & patience are what's keeping that little fella going. He seems quite happy & healthy, so keep doing what you do. He's all the better for it. Every kitten that crosses your path is extremely blessed. The rescue work you do is beyond commendable. You are an angel here on Earth. Peace & blessings to you. ✌🙏

    You guys are rock stars 🎸🎶 what a cute intermission! 😸 It's amazing how he can enjoy feedings without the joy of chomping up his food. It's such a selfless thoughtfulness the way you trouble shoot. When my 22 year old cat began having seizures I was told nothing could be done just wait them out. I think not!! Instead he'd eagerly took the very low dosage of Xanax to settle his panic. It worked to make them less horrifying for both of us. It's NEVER a good idea to try a human RX to a cat but his vet approved trying it. Everybody ALWAYS please seek the validation of your vet before you could make a decions that could harm them

I'm going through some health issues with my senior CH kitty, Pudge, and you have inspired me to relax and just keep on helping him the best that I can. See you next time. From Ontario, Canada.

    I wonder if Hannah has addressed chou chou was most likely “discarded” by a breeder? And how these birth defects are a result of the terrible practice of breeding…

    • @fransmith3255
      @fransmith3255 Před 2 lety +42

      It might not be a result of terrible breeding. This can happen in many animals. Humans too... Sometimes it's tied to genetics, sometimes it just...is... The full reasons why animals and humans are born with cleft palates are not known. It can be related to the mother's lack of iron or B vitamins while in the womb, or not...

      She mentioned something similar awhile ago on her instagram

    • @yawishable
      @yawishable Před 2 lety +71

      @@fransmith3255 no, it's literally because of breeding. See Hannah's video on the French bulldog puppies she fostered before Chou. Humans are doing this to animals with no regard for the consequences. Breeding for flat faces equals intentionally inflicting animals with breathing problems and increases the risk of cleft palates like Chou has.

    • @yawishable
      @yawishable Před 2 lety +30

      She did elude to it on Instagram, and spoke about it at length in videos when she had the French bulldog puppies.

    • @rebeccamarie4065
      @rebeccamarie4065 Před 2 lety +16

      @@yawishable I think it’s more like bad breeding. A good breeder will not interbreed. Recessive genes are more common with interbreeding.
