      You can do it....Check in to programs that allow you to pursue your dream as well as support you in the process! To be honest, if your brain works and you want it bad enough, you can do it! Best wishes to you! ...By the way, I am going to apply too!

    If you don't have an intellectual disability you can learn anything. Start looking at school like going to the gym. The courses exercises your brain and builds comprehensive skills. I'm sure it's nothing I can't learn with focus and discipline. I'm a 23 year old African American that's interested in medicine.

    I am one of those Aspiring medical students who also doubt myself. But, I have this interest in medicine , and science , that I can't get rid of! Chills run through my vein when I speak of medicine. t scares me because it's a lot of information to learn and I have to work hard to learn. I have to study everyday and do revision every day after class in order for me to learn. so when I get to the hard sciences. I'm wondering if it will extra hard. But my dream, I knew there were no possibility of failure , would be to become Doctor.

      Alie, Your comments reflect your disciplined nature as Dr. Dale highlights in this video. That will get you a lot farther than you realize. It is important to realize that the information is challenging for everyone (At least most people), not just you. Don't let others throw you off your game by acting as if it is not a challenge. Stay with it Alie!!! We are here to support you! www.DiverseMedicine.org

    I'm African American the reason I say race is because along with the white people telling me I'm not smart enough, my own family told me that because I was a darkskin, black little girl, that I will never become a doctor....I'm 36 years old and I have accomplished my dream. After highschool I went to a junior college and then went to Harvard University. Attended medical school and started my internship and have gone from there. My point is nothing is an obstacle. Not your grades in highschool, not your race, absolutely nothing should hold you back. Just like he said dont count yourself out. In my search for finding motivational videos for my 16 year old neice who wants to be a doctor, this one has really helped.

    You just gotta have a good memory, and not even... (in modern, modern times) the internet, smart phones came out makes it so much easier for my doctor to diagnose, prescribe and make decisions... I remember when I was a kid early 90's. My doctor had a big ass book right next to her, when she forgot something she learned she went back to review it

    • @Debt-tective
      @Debt-tective Před 6 lety +1

      Mikey that is not true at all. When I was in my clinicals guess what? Doctors performed surgeries and emergency interventions (chest tubes, chemically sedated intubations, etc..) on the spot, no looking in the book, no Web md. Lol. Doctors know their stuff. They spend a minimum 11-13 years of higher education learning said stuff not to mention additional training for subspecialties. To act like your doctor is actually flipping through diagnoses that Web md has or a book (that may be seen in their office, but I've seen MDs with shelves of these books for reference, not as a hand holding guide) instead of diagnosing you from experience and an already immense knowledge base is not only an inaccurate depiction of physicians and their skill, but sort of breathes disrespectful . I may have taken this the wrong way and I honestly apologize if I have and then unprovokedly challenged you, but, it sounds like your severely down playing doctors and acting like they are not even smart? You need atleast a 3.7 gpa to consider getting into med school not to mention the dedication and time for the mcat and all other volunteer, clinical, and extra curricular activities that you juggle while maintaining straight A's without error. That still doesn't mean you get in. And that's only premed! Med school, from what I hear, makes premed sound like a walk in the park. These physicians are highly highly dedicated and knowledgeable people and I'm only responding with such enthusiasm to this to stress that they deserve our utmost respect as professionals and intellectuals, especially when you take into consideration the sacrifice of family and personal life they've given for this level of education.

  • @MrJbee1982
    @MrJbee1982 Před 5 lety +2

    Not everyone can be a physician. It takes more than discipline. You need to be smart as well...I don't like video that say if you try hard enough, you can do anything. It is stupid.

Im not great at math but if i put my mind to it im kinda good at it. But everybody tells me to do art because im good at it. But just because someone is good at something it dosen't make it your future profession. I wish i was more certain about what to do. But i just dont think im smart enough. Im a Grade 11 SHS student taking up STEM and I too wanted to become a medical doctor, it has been my greatest dream to become one but I'm doubting my capabilities. I had a grade of 86 out of 100 in my Biology class which is not good so I started to study the subject and later on got 98 out of 100. I also got a perfect score in science in my national examination but I am not a discipilined person. I woke up late and I'm so lazy. I also do things depending on my mood. I get along with kids well, I love them but there are moments where in I'm becoming impatient. Help... T_T What course should I take? We'll have an immersion soon and it is very important as a preparation for college but I still don't know what course to take.

  • @nicorsar
    @nicorsar Před 5 lety

    This will be unpopular to some, but grounded in observational facts: medical doctors have a particular type of intelligence, on average. Roughly 70-75% of medical students (i.e., to be doctors) major in biology or biological sciences. The vast majority of biology students score average to just barely above average on math, verbal, and analytical testing (if you treat those indicators as intelligence or skill acquisition). Thus average to above average markers on standardized testing represents the vast majority of medical students and medical professionals. That said, what is not accounted for here is the high degree of memorization skills necessary to make it in medical school. The rigor and retention of knowledge from anatomy to interaction effects is extremely rigorous, perhaps the most of any profession of which I am aware, even when compared to hard science PhDs. That is where future MDs are held to an extremely high standard. You better be able to work extremely hard, and 'remember' a lot to do well on the MCAT and to make it in medical school.
