I just got back to the USA from London this week. Tom provided excellent service picking me up at at LHR and a return trip. Had a great chat about things to see in London. Great guy and I hope you didn't wait in the Heathrow rank too long!
I was born in St Thomas’s Hospital and some five years later spent a couple of weeks there as a patient. When the weather was fine, our beds were rolled out onto the terrace overlooking the Thames so we could enjoy the sunshine. The only problem was not being able to take an afternoon nap because of Big Ben.
Would definitely recommend John Rogers and Ian Sinclair, really incredible psycho-geographical works on London. The Secret Lore of London is brilliant as well. Love your videos Tom, thanks for the many hours of entertainment!
I love books, and have added several of these to the Kindle reading list! London Made Us offers an interesting idea about everyone having "their" London. My friend's version comes from days and nights out spent in Camden, whereas to me, the London of my childgood was just somewhere I went because that's where Great Ormond Street is and I had to go every few months for appointments. Now, as an adult I'm finding "my" London again through visiting for work, and with friends.

People I know occasionally give me books about London as presents, assuming because I like London I will automatically like any book written about it. This of course is not true, and I think you managed to accurately explain how some books can be too deep, heavy or dry, to be an enjoyable read. It’s definitely a very personal thing which books you enjoy, for example I found the last book you reviewed, which was a gift, very depressing, and I didn’t finish reading it. I think I may well order one or two of the others, notably the first one and people’s different perceptions of London sounds interesting. Thank you for sharing your knowledge of London and those books with us. In return I would like to mention a book which is probably out of print now, but became my Bible in the early 1980’s The Essential Guide to London written by David Benedictus.
I love London. So much to see and do. The only city that I love as much as London is Tokyo. (and I've been to NYC, Chicago, Taipei, Seoul and Hong Kong). Tom - what are your top cities you have visited? Same question for everyone else. :)
