From the Powell diaries: "I was at my desk at 8.30am on 21 July 1997 when an older member of switch called to say she had William Hague on the line for the prime minister. I was a bit taken aback. Leaders of the opposition have perfectly cordial relations with the prime minister, but an early-morning call was not routine. I told her to say we would call back. I checked with Tony, who was willing to take the call, and I asked her to get Hague back. Instead of calling the office of the leader of the opposition, she phoned the number the caller had given her and put him through. I listened with mounting horror as it became clear that it was a radio hoaxer who didn't even sound much like Hague. Staying on the phone, I asked the private secretary to tell switch to cut the hoaxer off mid-call. Tony was cross with me because he had been handling the conversation with good humour and said he had realised it was a hoax from the first. I was mortified by my mistake, and all day the call was rebroadcast complete with switch saying: "You don't sound like yourself, Mr Hague."
Had Blair been thinking on his feet there, he could've said something like "look Bill, I told you, I'm not that way. I got the cards, the flowers, I took on board everything you said in the member's bar, but I don't swing that way. I'm sorry. You'll find someone. Try Michael Portillo".
It's spooky to think that they got all the way through to Blair directly. I doubt it would happen if somebody (no matter how good) rang the White House
idk about people down in Europe but in America, at least among most anti Iraq war citizens, Blair is generally disliked. strange, i have no honest to god idea what he could have done to piss off so many of us Americans.
Gosh does Tony Blair have a sense of humour, I know people don't like him for the war in Iraq. But he was lied to, the government were duped by Sadam and others into thinking he had WMD's. If it were not for tony Blair there would be more discrimination in the UK, he's done good things too!!!!
That's definitely Tony Blair.
He gave the game away by saying Tony not Prime Minister. Blair was game for a laugh.

Somebody needs to do to this to Boris while imitating Starmer. That would be funny.
Boris doesnt allegedly allow his phone info to be 😮 infiltrated😮
"You don't sound like William Hague" - no, because he sounds like Jon Culshaw like in almost all of his impressions
Because he is Jon Culshaw
@@harrypainter7472 Yes but he's not supposed to sound like Jon Culshaw when he's doing an impression.
McGowan is the best impressionist
@@hakc97again Bremner
@@hakc97again Which ones McGowan again? Him who looks like Adrian Brody? Sorry I haven't watched tv for years
Blair had good fun with this!

That wouldn't have been very funny though.
Blair was not fooled.

@@Winston.S.Churchill The people were let in by security.
well done, think how many must have got fired for letting him in
That would be somewhat of an overreaction.
Nah back then it would have been 0
Shame he didn't plan something better to say, he got the hard bit right.
Shocking impression
It is Tony Blair. This was on the radio years ago. Capital FM i think.
Hey T.B . Was a poor self indulgent that lacked general iq scope to deal lets say out of the box😮
Rory Bremner should have done this call
What slaughtered me was when the staffer said: "We get a lot of imposters!" Really?!
Sounds abit like john prescott lol
He should've said something that sounded credible first, he condemned the call to a quick hang up as soon as he spoke
Tony still looking for weapons of mass destruction that's why he took ages to come to the phone
Tony was too busy worshipping the owl of Bohemia Grove to answer the phone.
Even the switchboard operator realised it wasn't Hague. Shameful really.
While it is good, the distinctive voice did dip exactly when the woman said it did.
'You've done very well to get through the network...' #evil laugh#, hangs up, 'I'm not really a lefty, you know, honest! Honest! Gibber, gibber....'
I knew it was him all along
nearly got clocked.........
I like John Culshaw but Rory Bremner is a better Hague mimic !
@Deltateam210 Well it is him.
😂😂😂
@TheKenfig It's Jon Culshaw when he was just starting
haha
Rotherham boi
@edwardkent what do you mean by that?
who's playing willian hague?
That was rude, to just hang up on him like that.
I think someone cut Tony off.
I imagine he probably had more important things to do.
what, working out?

It wasnt tony it was Jon too!
Is it Jon Culshaw?
aparently it was steve penk
The impersonator is Jon Culshaw. The radio presenter who set this up is Steve Penk.
Can't be Tony Blair. Is it?
Didn't really work though...did it?
Blair was a prat
I'm afraid that sounds nothing like Blair. I suspect it's a set up
Terrible Hague impersonation to what clearly wasn't Tony Blair.
Clearly wasn't Tony Blair? It is well documented that it was Tony Blair.
It was a bad impersonation but his Hague is so much better now. LIke a millions times better
don't sound like Tony
You must be deaf
It’s him

He's a nasty piece of work who should slither back under his rock and stay there.
