    The apocalypse came and went. These guys barely noticed..
    The process is amazingly refined and intricate. The piece at the end seems simple and nothing special, but is in fact quite the opposite. These days reading a book on atomics and how particles align themselves under certain conditions, like hardening and annealing the faces of the hammer for stench but leaving the eye slightly softer so it less likely to shatter with a hard miss strike when using the tool. An amazingly complex process where absolutely nothing is done for no reason. Every stroke and motion is for a very specific and important reason. These men are as much artists and they are smiths or engineers. Sure we’ve made wonderful metal works ancient times, but back then people didn’t know why they had to do most of it, they just knew they had to do it. No idea how atoms worked, they just knew what worked through repetitive action over generations. Amazingly some swords were made with chromium additives(stainless steel “sort of”). You can’t convince me that ancient man knew what was really going on, they just knew it worked. LOL they thought blacksmiths were wizards and magicians 😂

    • @patrickd9551
      @patrickd9551 Před 2 lety +1

      Perhaps you should pay more attention to the world in it's whole. It's most of the common day items that hides a lot of low income work.
      Shoes are produced almost exclusively in India and China. Malaysia is known for it's rubber goods for example. But these countries have one thing in common.
      They don't give a crap about the environment, examples can be seen here in this video. As a blacksmith I know a thing or two about forging and the forges you see here display a lot of so-called dragonbreath. That's basically unburned fuel that interacts with the oxygen just outside the forge. It also produces a lot of CO (not good for the workers). But on top of that, it's highly fuel inefficient to operate a forge this way. insulation, heat recuperation and closing the door saves at least 20% fuel (if not way more).
      You can also look up the CO2 emmisions per country for (raw) steel production. You will find that China produces one metric ton of steel at the cost of 3 metric tons of CO2. Compare that to a modern steel foundry in Europa. Those produce steel at a 1:1 ratio or less. If you add transportation to the equation, you will soon find that producing steel in China is screwing the environment four times over.
      So why China or any other non-western country? It's all about the money. If you can save 10 cents on a hammer which you produce by the millions, it's a lot of money saved. Who cares if the hammer is produced from railroad track that's not properly annealed or postprocessed? It only means the hammer will fail quicker, forcing you to buy a new hammer.
