Add a "FREE" Tool to Your Swiss Army Knife!

- Here's my new, quick way to add an essentially FREE extra tool to your Swiss Army Knife! It ups your SAK's overall tool/functions capability, dramatically increasing your preparedness! This easy mod adds a McGyver SUPERTOOL and works with nearly any Victorinox SAK. It can be undertaken by anyone. Please consider it a holiday gift for your SAK! Ho-Ho-Ho. Happy holidays!
My thanks also go out to one J.R. G and his excellent article on paper clips used as 47 different survival tools: www.diyprepper.com/survival-uses-for-paper-clips/
UPDATE: For people lacking an empty corkscrew position, alternate positions to hold a paper clip exist on some designs, including the empty cavity underneath the full-size (3D) No2 Phillips head found on, for example, the SwissChamp (and Explorer, Scientist, Yeoman, Woodsman?). It is held in securely while the Phillips screwdriver is closed but may rattle around, and I can't 100% guarantee it works without possibly jamming adjacent tools in long term use, but it seems OK in my initial evaluation on my SwissChamp. (That is, it may theoretically stray into adjacent slots on some designs?) I have not tested it extensively.
Sorry, I can't guarantee all brands of paperclips will work as shown in this video, also there's more than one style of SAK corkscrew out there too. - Jak na to + styl
Thanks for all the great comments and holiday cheer, everyone. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all!
Merry Xmas ! It's been too long !
Thank you for the video 👍
Merry Christmas sir!
🎄☃️🎄🎄👍
your video is your gift to us, thank you.
This was a great add-on tip!! But for those who already carry a mini screwdriver or FireAnt firestarter in their corkscrew, the best place to hide a paperclip is under the big Phillips screwdriver in any Victorinox SAK that has one. It doesn't interfere at all and is instantly accessible, with no having to fiddle with threading it onto the corkscrew.
I would never have thought of that one. I love your videos. Please make more.
Awesome stuff! Can’t wait for the next video.
I just really enjoy watching you explain and show things off.
Neat video.. my macgyver tool box expands every time I watch your content..
Your videos are always worth the wait. Never will I look at a paper clip the same. Thanks as always!
I have very weak finger nails and often have both thumb nails broken at the same time. I use a paperclip for everything I would normally use my nail for. My everyday carry is usually a tinker small or super tinker so no corkscrew, I just hook the paperclip on the small keyring. The paperclip also makes for a good cheap pocket suspension clip.
I’m glad to see your still making videos.
Very ingenious SAK mod. Merry Christmas!
It's so good to see you again! Thanks for this video - this is a darned good one, as always! MC & HNY!! 🙂
Thank you on behalf of my SAK! Merry Christmas!!!
I am SOOOOO HAPPY to see your video pop up in my queue! I’ve missed you! Great video, as always. Please don’t be a stranger. Your videos are always such a treat, and no one else does quite what you do. Thanks for the Christmas present! Merry Christmas to you!
I enjoy your humor and videos. Thanks for sharing your knowledge with us. Have a great Holiday Season! 🙂
So happy to see you're back making videos! Merry Christmas! Keep up the great work
What a great tipp, thanks and merry Christmas!
Mac is the man . One my favorite shows growing up
I was going to take the p*ss and suggest "Did you know you could use it to bind sheets of paper? 😲" and then you did it.
Welcome back and Merry Christmas! I started a CZcams channel 4 weeks ago, EDC stuff currently, largely inspired by your channel, which I found a few years ago. 👍
This was indeed a great gift...exactly the kind of real world knowledge a useful person needs! I've done several of these things myself but there's more I didn't think of so I'll be adding several paperclips to my keychain now. {as well as a sak}
Thank you for all this amazing tipps for a new tool with my SAK!
Awesome, love the comprehensive survey of the topic, much appreciated! And merry christmas to you!
Brilliant! Thank you for your fantastic tips, demonstrations, and humor...your videos are always informative and entertaining.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! 🌟🎄🕯🕊

Excellent brother and thank you for sharing your wisdom.
I really enjoyed this video. I saw things from in the I Are you with her didn’t think of until I saw you do it. Thanks for the time being a research thought you put in all the videos to help us.
Very clever. Thank you, Santa.

Merry Christmas, bud! May your Altoids tins be bountiful.

well thank you for your xmas gift of a video
I really like your videos and this one was especially entertaining. A guest appearance by “Clippy” made me LOL. Thanks!
You're THE Man!
Maybe the godfather of EDC!
Thanx a bunch! 🙂
I always look forward to your videos! Merry Christmas and I hope you ha e a Happy New Year!!!
Missed your videos. They bring me back to childhood when I was always pretending to be a secret agent. Thanks for keeping that childhood imagination alive. Your creativity and ingenuity is amazing. Keep posting and Happy Holidays.
Are you suggesting that MeZillch is not a real life secret agent? Next you'll be telling me that Santa's not real.
@@jamesrodgers3132 Of course not, obviously I was maintaining your cover via distraction.
Fantastic! I'm going to replace my teeny screwdriver now! Thanks for the creative, useful content!
Thanks for being concerned about our SACKS this time of year. 🤓👍🍻
Sak 😂
@@Dlutheran No no, I'm pretty sure he is worried about each and every one of our SACKS.

Why did you make the best youtube video ever? It is hurtful to people who wanted to reach that goal! You have been very mean to them!
Genius, as always
Great video! Merry Christmas!
Super trick. Thanks for this valuable video!
Seasons Greetings Zilch! Thanks for another great video.
I love your videos! Merry Christmas And All The Best!
The hole in the awl is great for bending that paperclip in different configurations. The wire stripper notch can also put bends in as well.
That's some serious MacGyver stuff you got going on there!
Always good stuff from MeZillch! Thanks for the cool ideas!
Thanks.
Very well done!
Merry Christmas MeZillch!
Health and happiness for 23!
🎅 🎄 🎁 ❄️ ⛄️ ☃️
Brilliant 💯💯💯‼️
WOW thats the best idea I've seen in a long time, thanks loads mahalo (thank you)
Hi, HI! Yours is my favorite state. . . .after drunkenness. Ha ha .
Great video as always!! 👍 Merry Christmas from Copenhagen, Denmark, Europe 🌟🌟🌟
Love the paper clip.
Pretty cool. 👍
Woohoo a Christmas treat , merry crimble from sun drenched Scotland
Hey thanks for the tips
love it.
Genius level!
Howdy, I just added a paperclip to mine! Sounds dumb but I really wanted to start carrying one. MacGuyver kid here lol. Thanks for the vid
Now I just need a Swiss Army Knife with three corkscrews- one for my Fire Ant firestarter, one for my mini-screwdriver, and one for my paper clip.
I don't get it. Why wouldn't one be carrying at least three different SAKs?
Ho Ho Ho. Merry Christmas
Grandissimo!!! 💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼🖐🏻
this is one of the better ideas I have seen.the paperclip can also be cannibalized into more than one fish hook using the same method as the bending the pin
Merry Christmas
U back buddy 😃☺😊
Great video man. Now I know why MacGyver always has one of it
Great as always. But first was in doubt to watch or not
I liked the video for the Vince Gauraldi Christmas album!
The metallic paperclip is the poor man's multi-tool. The McGuevyer of all multi-tools.
It stores anywhere and no one questions it.
Thanks😊🎉
merry christmas!
Thank you for the free gift! Do we need to pay for shipping or is that included?
Merry Christmas!
If you have a Victorinox model with a reamer you can also use the hole in that tool to bend wires.
LOL great video.
Wow. I literally was wondering where I might store a paperclip on my knife. I was thinking inside the blade cavity somewhere. Never thought of the corkscrew. Thanks!
Well that was delightful. In the every day real world a paperclip should replace the fireant I just nested in the corkscrew.
A fire ant is a device added for safety which you hope to never have occasion to actually use (just like a life preserver or an airplane safety belt). A paper clip, on the the hand, is a device I use ALL the time. Psst: an upcoming video shows how they might be combined.
Thank you for the video. You can also thread a larger clip through the ring and use it as a pocket clip.
Good one. Thanks.
I’ve really been enjoying your videos. May I suggest one or two birthday cake candles for your tiny survival kits. When you use the farro rod and cotton, lighting a small candle will make it easier to light your actual bon fire. Also, if you need to have a lighter on for more than a few seconds, lighting a small candle instead will preserve your lighter fluid. Thanks for all the great skills.
Thanks. I have heard of that. I had a candle in one of my tins and found that after time (months?) it got flaky and left annoying residue on adjacent tools in the kit. Even better than a regular candle, it was a "magic trick joke candle" which can't get blown out in the wind. It simply reignites on its own. The only way to extinguish it is water (or spit). I think you see it in this video: czcams.com/video/oWwSqYlqZHE/video.html
Get the trick ones that are hard to blow out.
@@MeZillch But will it fit inside the corkscrew? Hmmm.
Magnetizing all the blades and tools is the best easy mod to do. Few swipes on a strong magnet...power up!
Some good ideas. But now where to put my little eyeglasses screw driver... Have a great New Year!
Have you checked to see if it really does fit your eyeglasses? I've owned that screwdriver ever since it came out in the 1980s and it has never fit a single pair of eyeglasses, camera, cellphone, or watch I've ever owned. Plus at the end of the video I show how I turned the tip of the paperclip I carry into a screwdriver.
One of the best instructional videos I think I've ever seen.
A little nerdy.
I was wondering if you could actually fit two 28mm paper clips in there or if not -- perhaps a 28mm paper clip and another even smaller one side by side! Then you would actually have two paper clips!🤗
Thanks
Felix Immler couldn’t even think of this!😊
I'm pleased he left a nice comment I loved though: "Super trick. Thanks for this valuable video!"
I actually used a paper clip to effectively jump wire the convertible top on my Porsche boxster a few years ago when it got stuck down.
Thanks. Good to know.
Thanks for this! I just did it while watching. I also just found that a large paper clip fits between the saw and scissors on my camping model. Seems to stay in place quite well. I think I might keep an extra paper clip attached to the split ring as well.
Placed on the split ring you can also use a large paperclip as a pocketclip to hang/suspend your knife in your pants pocket, rather then letting it fall to the bottom.
Vell done !! 🍺 😎 👍
You can also get some really thin fishing line such as the power pro stuff which is crazy thin and has up to an 80 pound test. I think you could fold it over several times and store it in the center of the corkscrew along with the paper clip so that in a pinch, you could use the fishing line and possibly make a hook out of the paper clip or use it with a magnet, if you need to fish something out of a drain or what not. I’m trying to remember the name of the MeZilch quick release paracord bracelet but you can use this method for the little hank of fishing line.
All good points, thanks! I show how you can store a secret stash of cordage (dental floss in this demo) inside the SAK scales here: czcams.com/video/hLU_Fle641U/video.html
My straight line cordage storage, with one-second deploy, is called (and can be searched for on CZcams): "Parafob" czcams.com/video/V5UTu1rhJAU/video.html
My 5-second-deploy bracelet (which can be constructed in 60 seconds) I'm proud to say has been adopted by the US military as their preferred design (according to Paracord Planet) and is speed demo'd here: czcams.com/video/vf7fjd4d4EI/video.html
Informative and hilarious. Unfortunately all my saks have the philips driver instead of the corkscrew because it's infinitely more useful for me lol
From the box label, I learned that the French call paper clips “trombones.” How fanciful!
I tell ya. "It's like those French have a different word for everything." czcams.com/video/q_8amMzGAx4/video.html
When you said make a paperclip float, I thought, one paper clip, two scoops of ice cream, and some root beer.
Although I don't think of floats as being nutritionally very good at least that one would contain lots of iron.
You could probably even hammer the outer curve flat as well and use that on a bigger, flat head screw.
Amazing! Wait until I tell my friends that I know how to store a trombone inside my SAK!
WOW Made in USA! No wonder America is still the number one! I will install it in mine now. Maybe put 2? Thanks
Moved the local newspaper to a new building all the desks and you never seen so many paperclips !
Excellent advice - though the storage of this ubiquitous paper clip does hoist one onto the horns of a dilemma - do you opt for the clip, as ably demonstrated here - or retain the small "eyegasses" screwdriver that is an existing accessory with many SAKs and which is also stowed within the coils of your corkscrew..? Only you can decide..!
I've owned that screwdriver since it first emerged in the 1980s and it has never fit a single pair of eyeglasses I've ever owned, or for that matter a camera or remote control either.
Amazon stock price plunges as paper clip revealed as the only gadget ever needed.
If you figure out a way to store a paper clip on a SAK that has a philips head screwdriver instead of a corkscrew, could you please share it. Thank you.
I guess you could carry one on the keychain split ring?
always carry paperclips in my kits. various sizes
Do you remember what gauge pin Victorinox used for their larger models.? The pin that goes behind the corkscrew/philips ??
I'm not dead sure what they ship with, but on my 91mm Deluxe Tinker it nicely accepted a Singer 250, nickle plated steel Straight Pin, labelled as "size 20, 1 - 1/4" length". I like that it has a little bit of friction to hold it in snugly so it won't rattle or fall out.
