- Is the Oregon 410-120 chainsaw chain sharpener worth it? Lets try it out.
I am not a heavy user of a chainsaw. Once a year I do saw a lot of my own logs for making lumber on my sawmill. I alsom use a chainsaw quite a bit clearing trails. I have always just used a file and on occasion used a small hand held 12 volt grinder. I have about 6 chainsaws of different sizes to suit my needs. There are days where I find myself spending a lot of time with a file.
This sharpener is not their top of the line sharpener but it's also not a toy. I tried sharpening a chain that was badly worn (hit a rock) and didn't have much life left in it. I didn't think it was worth the time it would take to make it work properly again. I was wrong.
I went through the manual for this sharpener and got it set up. The manual was not very clear as to how to use it so I did some research on CZcams. After getting the information I needed and a little bit of practice I quickly got to the point where I could sharpen a chain in just a few minutes.
I tested how well it worked on an 18 inch frozen pine log. I was very happy with the results. This damaged to near scrap chain cut through that log very easily.
The drawbacks are few:
1. This is not a cheep piece of equipment
2. The clamp for holding the chain seems a bit wobbly
3. That's all I got!
Is it worth the investment:
If you have one chainsaw and use it occasionally to trim things up around the yard, don't waste your money. I will be far cheeper to take your chain somewhere to have it sharpened by a pro.
If you have a chainsaws and you depend of the running and working properly, then yes. In my opinion this is a good investment.

Brian, it's good to see that you have the chainsaw sharpener going and that you are happy with it. If you hand sharpen between machine sharpenings your chain will last a lot longer. One note of caution, over many years of machine sharpening I have had a couple of the sharpening stones explode on me. You don’t want your face directly across when sharpening. I also wear a face shield. Take care and happy sharpening!

Nice looking sharpener , that clamping system looks much nicer than my harbor freight sharpener.
I'm quite pleased with it so far. The Clamp does work but you do need to be a bit careful when using it to be sure it is clamped up properly. So far so good. Thanks for watching!

It is great that you got a replacement quickly. I like your ultrasonic cleaner 🙂 We have an ultrasonic cleaner and they are great. The chain sharpener looks like a geat tool

How's she goin'? I was a skeptic of these electric sharpeners, but my son had one and I used it once and decided to get my own. I got a cheap one from Princess Auto. I was told by a factory rep that Amazon will send out returned items just for fast processing. If an item isn't right they will replace it. But that's not good business for the customer.

Yes it really is. It makes it a real challenge.
You should have went up one more step on your grinder loose the pink wheels get a cbn wheel it makes your machine worth more than twice its worth . 100 dollars for the ultra cleaner got one grease will make your wheel run hotter . that
