    Excellent points! The Slew has really never been given the true credit that he deserves as a racehorse.

    GREAT VIDEO!!!! Only Seattle Slew could have come back after such a slow break, to win so easily. Just one word: INCREDIBLE. I have published a book on one of Slew's greatest and most beloved sons-SWALE. It is entitled: GRIT AND VALOR: THE STORY OF SWALE. In 1984, he won the Florida Derby, Kentucky Derby, and Belmont Stakes.

    @cf1970 I might also post the statement made by Angel Cordero about Seattle Slew.
    Quote: Of all the horses to ride if my life depended on it to win I would take Slew. Hope that one did not annoy you.(smile). You have been a very fair person here And appreciate it very much.

    @cf1970 Jean said about the same in the articles from Los Angeles Times. Quote:
    "Seattle Slew was a top mile horse with a lot of speed," Cruguet said. "That speed carried him farther as the races got longer. I thought he was better as a 4-year-old than he was at 3." He also stated his best race was with Mac Diarmida in that D.C. International race at Laurel.

    Slew would be behind 14 lengths to Sceretariat in this race. Not blistering speed here. Still Slew was a great horse by any measure. Only of 11 horses to win the TC. Thats a super deal within itself IMO. I rank him in the top 5 of all time or without a doubt be in the top 10 best. He was better than Citation for sure with all due respect.

    @lpvcrcd In the article titled 'Deathwatch Seattle Slew, T.C. winner/horse 28 a quote by Jean Cruguet.
    "He was the fastest horse I ever rode," Cruguet said. "Maybe not the
    greatest, but he was a speed demon, wouldn't let anyone ahead of him.
    He was a miler, but had great heart to finish first no matter what the
    distance."
    Cruguet has also made the statement that Hoist The Play was the best horse he ever rode.
    I feel without a doubt he was better than Citation & the Fleet.

    @rscarbro100 Dr Fager had take you breath away speed. A horse that was as fast as he was is amazing that he could get 10f. He was not Artax, but Artax coule not get a mile either

    @cf1970 He more than proved that in the 1 1/2 mile JCGC race with Exceller. He seem to be more of a miler as a 3 year old But was without a doubt in my mind was much stronger as a 4 year old. I think his record shows that. I have made excuses for Slew & many horses of why I think they lost. IMO Exceller was in no way a better horse than Slew. Slew ran to fast a pace in that race, way to fast And even though he almost won there just was not quite enough gas left in him to win. He was a stayer.

  • @rscarbro100
    @rscarbro100 Před 14 lety

    @cf1970 I knew it was Hoist the Flag But a mental error since I had so much on my mind. I just came on here to correct the mistake. Thanks so much. What makes you think his opinion was curious? Hoist the Flag only ran I believe 6 times hardly not enough racing to even make an opinion & lost one of those. Did run a 7 furlong in 1:21. I will give Cruguet the benefit of the doubt & see no reason why he would have lied about it.

  • @rscarbro100
    @rscarbro100 Před 14 lety

    @cf1970 We will probably disagree more than agree But that is not a problem with me at all. What annoys me is when some on here makes some claims based on theories when there is pretty good facts out there that totally knocks there theories into the water. I am a fan of Slew, Secretariat, Easy Goer, Dr. Fager & many more. Like I said before you are a very fine minded person. I do not want any of these horses or any to be distorted. Slew was a stayer. Cont.

  • @rscarbro100
    @rscarbro100 Před 14 lety

    @cf1970 I believe Cruguet was not imply that Mac Diarmida was a better horse than Slew at all. Just a better race not the biggest race he had. He would have said different I think if he was aboard Slew when he lost to Exceller by a nose.I watched that race on youtube he had with Mac. It was a very good race But nowhere compared to the JCGC. The rides he had with Slew were fairly easy.

    @cf1970 My, My you are very sensitive. I don't believe it was sour grapes. Read the inerview he had with Cynthia Brisola published in nov/dec 2009.at the International Horse Racing Digest. He was asked this very question. You know he lost his ride by the statement he made why Slew lost at Patterson about the training. It is some good reading. He said Slew could have won the Travers And would have won everything. Don't think he had anything against the horse.
