It has a wide range of rivals, with the most obvious ones being the Mercedes C-Class and Audi A4. However, the 3 Series also competes with the Lexus IS, Infiniti Q50 and impressive Jaguar XE - and it's a close-run thing deciding whether the Jaguar or the BMW is better.

I owned a 2012 320d & can't even see any visual changes (other than the black part of front bumper) that Matt kindly pointed out. Oh and the lamps 😂.... I can see whoever was in charge of the facelift worked VERY hard

Secondly, Like U said, Auto version is better, problem occurs when the battery dies which on the manual u can push start it whereas, Auto U need the plugs... Your thinking?

I have a question, which may sound stupid cos I don't know much about cars.
If I was to get myself a stock 2015 or 2016 BMW 3 series 2L, what would be the best affordable for me to upgrade it to make it somewhat sound like an M sport?
Cannot wait to see Caybuyer doing a comparison test among C-class, new A4, XE, and this updated 3-series!!!!!! I would bet my money on the new A4 to be the most well-around car and XE the most sporty sedan.
Just personal, but I still think this is the most beautiful Sport Sedan (or Sport Saloon if you prefere) on the market. Btw, 3-cylinders petrol is not good, better going for the 4-cylinder or still better the Diesel one. I also hope they won't convert the 3-series in a front-wheel drive car like they will do with the 1-series in 2016

Why is that only in Carbuyer review we would hear that the 3Series still drives better than Jag's XE ?
You should have explained the steering rack has changed along with more bolts on the front suspension strut housings thats stopped the steering rack issues..also the diesel engine is the new one that doesnt blow up due to timing chain snapping
Is the pedal offset present on left hand drive cars as well or is it just on UK cars?
can you do a review on the 2015/2016 BMW 340i preferably the all-wheel drive version?

I think it looks really cool and the high quality that's to be expected of BMW and other German car manufacturers.
They should have upgraded that interior by ending some chrome or metal (whatever it is) on the buttons like in the 7 series interior
But that would have made the seven series less exclusive...
+Kings mario BMW has the most boring interiors ever. Seriously looks like it's from the 90s or something.
+Sam Hall the C class and S class look very alike n they both still sale very well so I doubt it would make the 7 less expensive

the black interior trim isn't specifically new, it comes with the sport trim on this model (recognised it by the red accents on the steering wheel), along with the slightly different bumpers
Thinking of buying one of these, I heard these 3 series got timing chain issues around 70000 or 80000 miles

Great review, as always! In future reviews, would it be possible to demonstrate boot space by fitting a set of golf clubs? For example, do they fit in longitudinally, sideways, or do you have to fold one of the rear seats? I have not grasp of how big/small 10 cu ft is. Cheers!
+IamDaGrouch We're working on ways to demonstrate the boot capacity. Golf clubs is one way (like on the AMG-GT video) and we're trying to find a bicycle to use, too.
My mum has recently bought the a blue 3 series and she loves it everyone at her work wants it😂
I actually cannot get enough of that ''old'' dash (2012 = old now??!). Imo it just has a timeless yet modern simplicity to it; none of those crazy uber-curvations and bow lines in the new C Class.
So easy on the eye the post 2012 3s.
Auto Bild, German car mag, did a road test for emissions on a BMW X3, they found it was emitting 11 times over the limit. This test was done under normal driving conditions, not on a rolling road.

I hope they solved the timing chain issue for the diesel.
It's funny. Other reviews of the 1.5 petrol 3 cylinder say that it's very smooth and refined but Matt here says they run quite rough.

+Styles P'yall All "m" cars have body kits and engine upgrades in comparison to their less sportier models. There's also a difference in some types of technology.

I personally like the Audi's MMI System much more. Looks better, handles better.
When I am old enough to drive (8 years) I want to engine swap an rx-8 with a supercharged new mx5 engine or get a Ford Focus they are nice and practical (I am a 10 year old who doesn't rice or want to be a boy racer,have faith that won't change) though I already know I am heavy footed as I have crashed twice from under steer while go karting :)

Looking if I could get an answer from someone with a good deal of knowledge about cars. I am looking to purchase my first car as a P plater and had a question about pricing and what's possible:
I really only want to buy European/German vehicles and want to know if you could compare maintenance of how much more they really are and what costs I have to actually look out for. I want to buy a car under 10k but don't really want to budge on European. Could you give me some advice or recommendations of if it is realistic (I am looking at around 2000 models Mercedes C CLASS, BMW E46, Volvo S60.

Think I'll stick with my 2015 335GT for another year or 2 and then upsize significantly. Came from an X5M and 750Li, and to be honest, the 3 series just feels cheap. All the hard plastics on the dash feels like an American econobox, and the Dakota leather feels worse than the standard vinyl. Plus, the damn thing rattles with barely 7k miles on it. I do like the 3.0l turbo motor and the ZF 8 speed. The Adaptive suspension is pretty good, and the MSport brakes are better than the brakes my 7 had. It was rather pricey though. Sticker on my car was over $63k US. Can't help wondering if I could have gotten a better car for the money. I most likely will not get another 3 series in the future. An AWD M3 could change that, but unlikely. I'm waiting for the upcoming AWD M5.
What if VWs and Audi cars start failing emission tests, after the defeat software has been deleted and fail the MoT - who will have to pick up the bill for that?
+fred may We're not sure what the fix will be yet - currently awaiting firm news from Volkswagen.
+fred may Problem is that it looks that almost all car makers used some kind of cheats to pass the test. So it will be really hard to find someone clean.

his primary concern in every car is whether the 2 lit water bottle and bag of oranges would fit in the glove box or door compartment!!! ... weird how many of us would actually carry around a 2 lit bottle or a bag of oranges
I love bmw. I just hate that i have to trade the car in when my warranty is up
I just don;t get the comment on the dashboard, its classy, some are too fussy, too many trinkets make the car look cheaper i think, and there is more chance of the knobs and buttons failing, i like the dash, its grown up, and not trying too hard, i have a 320d on a 13 plate, and its a proper car, looks good drives great, and is easy on the wallet

The VW scandal means used VW's are going to be cheaper which is good news for anyone buying them used. A golf is going to be the best used bargain!
