Just because of permission!!!

To this day, it's always that person on CZcams with very few subs who has the most important videos, it gives 2008-2014 vibes, thank you very much for this. I had to emergency buy a new laptop (Asus TUF 15, the cheapest best one in my area) and replace my very old, wrecked and now dead Asus N56JR(2014), The 2.5 HDD it originally came with survived and after seeing videos on how to open it and upgrade/add RAM, SDD/NVMe, this video helped me to get access to extremely very indispensable files I learned I could recover. Thank you, thank you forever, dear Negi. BTW, that old HDD won't fit to the screw holes in the tray, so I think it's floating somehow hahaha, I don't know if a “new” 2.5 HDD will fit, I have no money for a new SDD right now. I will format and remove the Windows 8 from it later.

This worked! Was able to get photos and videos off a friend’s family pc that were irreplaceable. I found what is a faster method is to right click on the folder and click “share with” and share it with the user on your new hdd trying to access it. Much faster method but this helped me get there

Absolute genius. Even Microsoft said this was not possible to do. Everything worked. Note I had to reboot them grant permission for the files to be available

I was trying to access the user folder on my Windows 7 image backup and unfortunately this method did not work.
At first I tried setting the ownership to 'SYSTEM' because I saw that was the owner of most files. When that didn't work, I followed the tutorial closely and set it to 'Everyone'. I am still unable to open my user folder. When I try to open it now it asks if I would like to take ownership, If I click yes then it loads for a looong time, I'm letting it run to see if anything happens especially because the ownership changing took about 2 hours. If you have any advice for a situation like this I would appreciate it.

Still useful to this very day. Haven't tried it yet but either way I learned something. An easier way I did it was I just changed it from read only in properties
Can I do that do the hard drive in general or does it have to be just one specific folder? I ask because there are 2 inaccessible folders on my old hard drive.

Hi, do you know why sometimes the Desktop folder doesn't show up in the user folder?
It happened to me a few times, I'm trying to save a client's files before formatting and reinstalling Windows on that drive. The client's drive is connected to my PC via USB, I can acces the Users folder, the user name's folder, but the Desktop folder is not there.
Sometimes I can find the files in Users folder - OneDrive - Desktop but not all the times.
The Desktop folder simply is not there, where it's supposed to be. I've checked the hidden folders also, is not there. I can see Documents, Pictures, Videos, Dowloads etc., but Desktop is not there.
Please, if you have any suggestion, it would be a lot of help.

Hi, sometimes client changes the path of his desktop and saves it in another drive, to see the path you will have to right click on this PC and select properties and then go to the location tab to see its path.😊

After checking "Replace all child object ..." and clicking "Apply" I get an error saying "Unable to set new owner. The media is write protected". With only the option to click "OK". Any way around this??

after you open disk manager -> right click the windows partion of the disk or the partition that doesn't show up in your file explorer -> click explore -> new file explorer window should pop up and let you see all the files of the partition

Just a heads up, after authenticating my windows 11 install, after a couple of days I noticed that the there was no longer a problem accessing the folder ( it has the same "Users" name by the way). Additional. I rebuilt my PC with new hardware and went from a full windows 10 home to windows 11 home and at first it wouldn't authenticate and after a couple of days it automatically showed that it was authenticated. Then I bought one of those NVMe M.2 to USB caddies, inserted the drive and tried to access my old win10 Users' folder and couldn't and then after a couple of days, I automatically could. Also note, I went with a local account, use my name and info and no bitlocker encryption using rufus. I don't know if that had any bearing.

it doesn't work. After making it to the point where you check the "Replace all child" checkbox, and press on Apply, Windows just says that the Hard Disk is on read-only mode.

Followed this exactly and after clicking "yes" at 2:03, I get an error "unable to set new owner - the media is write protected" message instead of the ownership change message.
Did you find a solution? I have the same problem.
@@MG-qb1ip I wound up using a CMD window to copy all my files off the drive and onto another drive. It took a long time and some of the files had to be copied multiple times before they included everything. I still have a few photos and things that did not copy correctly.

Yes, you have to do one more procedure
Right click on same folder(user) and choose properties, then security tab, add user, find now, choose everyone, ok, ok, now tick all allow box, click apply now, then ok...
Now you have to full permission to access folder...

You had to choose data recovery before Windows installation but you can still take the help of data recovery experts.
