Welcome to Sam Shutt Farming, daily life on the Hill farm
This is Sam and Oliver plus 4 children farming beef sucklers and sheep in the North Yorkshire/Cumbria border area.
We are first-generation farmers, and we've had no help at all to get to where we are now. We are here to show you our life and what we do. I am also here to show new entrance that it is possible to start from scratch. Being strong-willed, determined, and a lot of hard work, you can do it.
We are both from farming backgrounds. I grew up on a family dairy farm. Milking from a very young age.Working for my uncle when i left school. I've learnt everything from him and grown ever since. I met Oliver when I was 16 he was 15. We started with a few sheep when we met and have built up over the 16 years to where we are now. We took on a 500-acre hill farm in 2019, currently 5 years into the tenancy.
Also, here to show people women can be useful in the agricultural world.😉😁

Oliver is a little ray of sunshine as usual. When we were kids our dad came home from Widdecombe fair with a pony for us; He was a little bugger and completely untrainable but we loved him and had him for years.
He doesn't like horses, but we do😉😁 making memories is the best 😄

What a fun day for mom and eldest daughter! It’s so important to get that special attention from mom. I loved seeing the fair, great video and now the kids will be so happy they have their new pony! Oliver may not be so happy 😂😂😂😂😂 but the kids faces should settle that lol! Though I think the pony might have charmed that ole grumpy butt 😂😂😂😂😂
Yes, i think so too, haha. He's thinking pony's are dead money, but he nos kids will be happy, so .... he's not bothered.🥰

If you can think about buying a horse then your farm income must be a lot more than you make out.
It was a great day out for mum / eldest daughter but all of the stalls had stuff I would never buy...apart from the food ones. Otherwise, junk and cheap clothes being sold for a fortune.
No farm income will start soon as we sell store lambs think we have £100 to last till then 🤣😁 but when I want something for the kids or need something I have to make it myself. And make it happen. So I sold something I wanted to keep. To make it happen 😁 I have my own bank and Brian power to .😉 yes food ones are good 😂 but £10 for a burger.... noway🤣🤣
